  1. Thank you CharlieH and thanks to Sheryl for the reply. I must admit I regret that particular doctor names were not suggested. It will make it more difficult for me to sell the right course of action. I will try my best. Cheers, Alan
  2. Perhaps he could pay the fine with a cheque but from an account with zero baht. The new regs, or regs to be, will make his iffy banking legal.
  3. My sister-in-law has a heart valve problem. She has fallen several times because of the issue. She lives in Pattaya and sees a doctor on Soi 4 (I don’t know the doctor’s name). It would be best for her to see an excellent doctor in the field in Phitsanulok, 20 kms from the family spread. Failing that, an excellent Bangkok specialist would be the next best choice. I guess Rayong, Si Racha and Chonburi specialists would also do the trick. To lighten the mood, here’s how she pronounces ‘valve’. With a strong tone she says ‘waw’. Makes sense if you’ve been here for a bit. Ha ha.
  4. A while ago, trying out my skills, I asked a waitress if she had sticky rice. “Mi kee niao, mai Khrap?” After getting the blankest stare it clicked. Sorry, sorry, sorry.
  5. Thanks MJCM. The card is not acrivated. Does Fedex deliver to my door or just to their local office?
  6. A friend in Toronto got a bank card for me in the mail. What is the best, most secure, and speedy service he could use to send on to me the card and accompanying documentation? I realize it will be pricey, but c’est la vie.
  7. My wife went shopping today, Sunday. 40 baht each way to and from Pattaya Tai/2nd Road. wasn’t busy, surprised her.
  8. My wife got back an hour ago and said it was busy at all. We’ll pig out on squid, fish and shrimps (farmed, unfortunately). Pla talay, muq too of course.
  9. Now I am thinking of buying the same unit again, maybe it’ll work longer. There is an option with an “air mouse” for 300 baht more. Why would one need an air mouse? I also saw a number of android 13 units that featured voice control of my tv. I will pass on that feature.
  10. Sorry for taking so long to update my experience. I’ve been using the HK1 RBOXX4 Wifi 2.4/5G Bluetooth 4.1 CPU Amlogic S905X4 Android 11 unit. It took me quite a while to become adept at running the unit, which I only used to play movies, tv shows, rock concerts etc. About 6 weeks ago things started to go wonky. Increasingly it would not recognize my usb-c to usb connected disk. I switched ports, same problem. Recently it had problems with any connection (new batteries improved things for a while). Rebooting a couple of times a session became common. This morning it kinda blew up on me: stopped working, stopped during an mkv, other stuff. After another reboot there was a screeching sound from the back of the tv, and everything off and back on didn’t work. I rebooted my UBC box (it wouldn’t send to the tv until I gently hit the box a few times). So UBC was back, but no sound. The Yamaha receiver was off so I turned it on. I won’t use the Android box again. My choices are get some other unit from Lazada or buy one at Tukcom, quite near to me. What do you suggest? The thing I appreciated most about that devil Android box was there was no music during the flashy animation at boot up.
  11. I saw that the typical Thailand b12 pill had some kind of a cyanide component (well described above). It creeped me out. I’ve been buying Eisai Methycobal B12 10-tab strip x 3 box @ 0.5 mg for 165 baht oer box. Eisai also markets injectable vials; a couple of years ago I paid 550 per 10 vial box. My clinic charges 100 baht for the injection. Since my b12 test results have been okay just using pills, I stopped with the vials.
  12. One thing I picked up on was to goto the restaurant next door to the recommended one. Saved me a bunch of dong in VN. When a place got popular up went the prices. And in VN, on a given street, the backpacker oriented restaurants had identical menus. Next door worked for guesthouses too. Good times.
  13. I got the ACER PREDATOR HELIOS NEO 16 PHN16-71-71EE (OBSIDIAN BLACK), although I’ve hardly gamed in years, it caught my attention. The SSD is only 512, a step down for me. It looks great. since I spend most of my time on an iPad, I have yet to bump into Acer poop. What should I loose?
  14. I’m a dufus. My google issue was because, after install, the ff default book mark was Google. I removed it. As for the bookmarks, before I was shown only ones I’d used for the last while. Now I have bookmarks going back decades, haha. When I’ve got nothing to do I’ll review them.
  15. Duckduckgo is part of it, from my point of view. My old pc was configured well with firefox, duckduckgo was its search engine, the firefox bookmarks were fine. I should have just installed firefox on the new pc and manually added bookmarks (entering them one-by-one), and done a better job with procedures to make duckduckgo the constant search engine (without google or bing ever coming up). What I did was to follow firefox procedures to sync the old ff setup/bookmarks to the new pc. After trying to do so my bookmarks have been changed/screwed up on both units. Ugh. I will have to work to remove Google search engine as a default (overriding, somehow, the duckduckgo default I set up).
  16. I just got a new acer laptop, to replace an old HP model. Oi! What a mess. To reduce agro I tried to transfer my Firefox (with duckduckgo) to the new pc. Oops. Now I have a modified Bing browser with bizarre bookmarks on both units. Ouch! i should have reached out before I did all this, but I was too competent, haha. Is there a way to fix my old and my new pc?
  17. Would I be able to go to the Emerates Embassy in Bangkok and get my Thai wife a visa that covers stop overs BKK-YYZ? Easy peasy?
  18. Are there airports in the UK, Europe, Middle East that permit both Thais and Canuks to stop over without hassle, visas, etc? i believe that South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore don’t present dufficulties.
  19. We’ve been to Turkey. Thais and Canuks have no problem with Istanbul stops over.
  20. Price and lack of hassle in an under 24 hour flight (if possible) are my objective.
  21. That’s a great answer Woof999! Really! I used to use Skyscanner but I just forgot about them. Too old. Before, it was EVA for me or with my Thai wife. Going to Toronto this trip I started booking EVA but had a panic attack over their prices. It used to be so much cheaper (haven’t flown since covid). I’m sure a cross-Pacific flight is best (not stopping in the US); I don’t know if middle east stops would be possible for us without hassle. Any preferred BKK-?-YYZ carriers? My preferred departure dates are Jul 28-Aug 3; returning Sept 7-15. Pretty flexible. And very generous NextG!
  22. I’m in Pattaya and need a travel agency to book fights out of country. Years ago I used All Seasons Travel Agency across from Friendship - they knew their stuff and the pricing was fair. Trying to call them just now from Google Search I found a weed shop with that name and a couple of other hits. None of the phone numbers listed went through. Of course, it’s Sunday evening so I will try again, walking by on Monday. If I can’t find it, do you have recommendations for an excellent agency Pattaya Tai / second road area?. Thanks.
  23. I went to Tukcom Pattaya; 2nd floor at noon, no luck in Best Buy, then along to IT City which had it on sale at 2,890 Baht, all in. They tested it and I took it home. It works fine via usb link. As for wifi, I am probably screwing things up on the laptop because I can’t get it to connect. Later, later. Thanks all.
