Agreeing with Unfaithful - based on his posts, it appears that phetaroj does not understand Thai culture or Thai education.
-
I agree that Thai culture has a profound effect on education. It starts before toilet training and continues to death. You cannot avoid it or beat it. It affects all teachers and students. Western backgrounds are irrelevant.

Sorry to say, it's true. A decent EP in the 60K per year range if you can find one. A very crappy first job. Part time evenings and weekends. Limited advancement. A used Honda Dream. A rented house. Maybe see the UK every five years. No pension. Crappy food..... but people are friendly and dress well, if you speak Thai.

Many Thais don't answer emails.

Jesus, Ghandi, King, C. Chavez - leaders.

They got 40% of the votes last time, and so did the Democrats last time. Will they get 30% this time?
-
Posts calling for Thais to be killed are gone, along with the replies.

I live in Amphur Sankamghaeng. Purely red shirts here. Laying low.

Of course, they need work permits.

That thread is reopened. If rules are not followed, we'll close it again.

I think you dealt with an infamous employer.

Moved to Teaching Forum.
Several topics here.
Older teachers. Might get hired in next 4 weeks. A tough market here. Being married is a profile for pedophiles who molest girls. No teaching experience. No network of contacts?
Most Thai kids don't learn much. 35,000 baht may not feed a family or qualify for an extension.
Are they good, dependable teachers who teach well?
Good luck.

We were raised in US communities where aggression and bulling were not allowed. Kids could touch one another.

If you use a Thai exchange, you choose an access code such as 009, then 1 for the USA, then 800. You are told in Thai and English that they'll charge you at the full toll rate. Best not to use the 800 number and pay for waiting.

I had a tour guide who had just earned a BA in English at CMU - supposedly the best school in northern Thailand. His speech was worse than my better M4 students.
-
I had a bright Thai co-teacher of English. She observed me acting out walking, talking, lifting a chair, walking in and out, etc. Next day she modeled it. Had I not been observed, I don't know if she'd ever have learned it.
-
I did a maths test final exam for M1 - no multiple guessing. My worst student got less than 15%. On the Thai teacher's multiple guess, he scored 35%. But average scores under 25% is incredible!!
In most cases, it's hopeless.

Because we seldom stay on the narrow topic (how this bill affects expats), I'm closing this for a while.

Sure - multiplication - age 8. Tones, age 7. But to use a calculator, you should learn to think.

In two years of teaching, I never saw a PowerPoint presentation, or the set-up for it.

Two hours of Thailish taught weekly and weakly by an incompetent Thai teacher to classes of 45 inattentive, hot Thais is useless. Some native teachers are worse. 12 year olds have been taught not to think. After several years, you might find a decent position. Or not.
I went to a local state school, one of best in the USA. We had to write perfect essays by 11th grade.

Welcome.
Not too late for May hires. Non-degreed newbies get less chances and pay. Most Thai schools provide limited support.

Police don't do it. Martial law maybe?

Yahoo said high would be 37. They lie consistently.

That's why I don't ride during Songkron.
