  1. Thank you, MikeOboe57, for this detailed report. At what amphoe in what province did you get your yellow house registration book? I am asking because requirements may vary form one amphoe to another (TIT).

It is the Bangkok Noi district Administration Charan Sanitwong Rd, Soi Phet Suwan.

I strongly recommend to go to the local Administration Office first and get detailed information on the required documents. This saves a lot of time and hassle.

This is very good advice. I did not need any translations for my yellow book. Check with your local administration first. Every province is different

I got my yellow book today at the Bangkok Noi District Administration. I was asked for the first names of my parents which my wife then transliterated into Thai - a translation of my birth certificate would have come in handy, but the official accepted it like that. One more check of the paperwork by a supervisor and after 45 minutes we left the office with a brand new yellow book.

I can recommend the Bangkok Noi District Administration as very friendly and efficient.

I was not asked for my birth certificate. They asked what my parents names were and my wife wrote down their names in Thai. I also found the staff very friendly and helpful. I live in Phayao. Yesterday we registered our baby and the staff were again very helpful. Birth certificate issued and wifes blue book updated within 15 minutes. Great service.

  2. OMG - 8 pages of whining for a small price hike.

The excise for imported whiskey is 360 thb/l today. Tomorrow it will be 400 thb/l.

Please note that the news article says excise will be increased TO 400 thb/l, not BY 400 thb/l.

I missed that. I bet I'm not the only one! Good catch, mate.

    The article's headline is incorrect...

    Of course.

And the increase is per liter of pure alcohol.

So for a 700ml bottle at 40%, you're looking at a price increase of... wait for it... 12 baht.

Winnie you have posted some good posts re this topic. Most readers see the headline and their judgement is totally clouded.

I have never seen a thread explode like this. I think we have a lot of nervous posters who think their hip pocket my be dented when this impact will be very small There have been 5 new post since I have started typing

    Well picked upset!

With Brisbane and Nth Melbourne winning it is a great result for the Swans. My previous prediction of Nth Melbourne as the dark horse still stands. They play Fremantle next week in Melbourne. Collingwood travel to Perth and the Swans play Hawthorn in Sydney. A very interesting round. Good news is Australian network will show Geelong V Swans live in the last round

  5. You have always been able to take twice the duty free tobacco allowance in without penalty as long as you declared them. The allowance was the undeclared amount.

This new allowance is alleged to make 250 to 500 mil in taxes, but I thought many of these agreements were international conventions, are we going it alone now. Jim

If you are going to make comments like these you would want to post a link to your source. I don't think this statement is correct.

You could only take 250 cigarettes into Australia Duty Free, if you took more into the country and declared them, you had to pay the Duty on them, hence they would not be Duty Free and more expensive.

If you were caught taking more than 250 into the country and had not declared them. They would have been confiscated and you would have been given a warning or a fine or a short stint in Prison or both of the latter. You would also have had your name marked down for all future arrivals and departures.

If you declared the cigarettes you pay duty on all the cigarettes in your possession.

If they are undeclared then you would be issued and infringement notice which would be double the duty and up to 100% GST evaded. You would have 21 days to pay. If this is not paid a seizure notice would be issued for the cigarettes after this period. No further action. You have to evade $5000.00 duty before a prosecution would be instigated. Check the Customs Act on the web

  6. Yesterday I posted on a topic regarding Mae Sai duty free. It was started on 11/08/2012 in the the Chiang Mai forum Yesterday I posted why it was in this forum when it was only 59 km from Chiang Rai I thought it should have been in Chiang Rai froum. Today I checked and it is in Chiang Rai forum but my post has been deleted. My question is why?

  7. In our village the big bottles are 12 baht. They are very difficult to put in the fridge. The ice that is supplied has a lot of outside agencies included. (no extra cost though) I use bottled water 24 baht for 12 bottles. I can refrigerate them. I personally need very cold water

It is up to the the individuals preference.

  8. . I've never known anyone foolish enough to try the viagra or cialis sold by the cigarette vendors, and I certainly wouldn't try them myself.

I have edited your post. I hope you do not mind. It is this part I wish to comment on. I agree totally with what you have stated but some people must buy or they would not survive. The number of young children trying to sell these good is also amaziing. I was approached by about 15 different kids trying to sell these goods. I was with my wife and family

  9. Swans V Collingwood

What a great game! not high scoring, but played tough and the winner not decided until the final minutes.

These two are both genuine GF contenders, IMHO (slightly biased of course).

Swans let themselves down with poor kicking at goal. Couple of easy ones they missed cost the game, but the pressure was on throughout. Sydney also missed having a forward who could take a mark in the contest. Goodes was not on song and couldn't provide the spark they needed. Game could have gone either way. Bodes well for both teams.

I think it's imperative for the Swans to get a home final if they want to make it.

At this stage of the season Collingwood look the goods but it can change pretty quickly.

Cannot discount Ade and they will have a home final.

I can see a large gap between the top for and the rest now.

Judging on the next 3 games I think the top 4 in order will be:

    Ade

    Coll

    Syd &

    Hawks.

So, Ade v Hawks in Ade and

    Syd V Coll in Melbourne.

    Regards

    Will

I watched the first half of the Swans Collingwood yesterday but mised the rest. Everytime Sydney plays my wife organises outings ( St Kilk,a trip to Chiang Rai) So at half time yesterday she says I have to go to hospital. How inconsiderate. Our baby was born this morning. I am very glad to miss the rest. I did not find out the result until this afternoon.

    Back to AFL

Well done Collingwood on their win.

Will I think you maybe spot on.I think that Adelaide will be number 1 with their easy draw. Collingwood have play West Coast over there but Sydney have to play 2 very hard last round games. The smokie in the field maybe Nth Melbourne but I have read they have some injuries.

Congratulations to your wife and yourself on your new arrival.

    Thankyou Ron
