  1. As Charlie H says.

And next time remember you are expected to pay unless you sort the details out beforehand laugh.png

This is patently obvious nonsense! logically why should someone be expected to pay for a person they didn't invite to the dinner and don't even know, sorry you will never convince me it's not a calculated scam! designed to shame someone into paying for unwanted Guests ! It's best not to engage in this sort of Chicanary !

And finally would we tolerate this happening in our own country or culture ......I don't think so!

You are not in your country! it is a different culture. Haha Are you someone who expects the people in other countries to be the same as you? You must be unhappy here.

I go out semi-frequently with a Middle Class Thai family. Once in a while they allow me to pay for a Swensens treat after. It's the wife's favorite. Up to them. I am an honorary Uncle to the kids.

You have Posted the following inside the above Box,when it should have been outside as below!

A scam? Really? Like they were plotting this? When I first met my wife, part of the courtship process was going out with and meeting her friends. I was always glad to treat them - it was never terribly expensive and nice for me to meet her friends too.

First off - you are not in your own culture - I am always puzzled why people come here and think that things should be like they are at home when many have come specifically to get away from home - - what possible relevance can it have what is done in a different culture when you are going out for dinner in Thailand?

Yes, I would surely be expected to pay if I went out with my family - it is rare as they prefer to eat at home… I would insist. What is not rare is walking past the houses of family members and being invited to eat with them - EVERY TIME - that I walk past if a meal is cooking. And I have eaten their food far far more times than they have come with me to a restaurant. Surely, they do not get that food for free… they are sharing people and do not make a big deal over who is paying for the food…

And of course you are not in your own culture either! but if you are happy to take on another countries culture, that's fine by me, but don't include me,I make my choice,by what I consider to be what's right, and not be sucked into some half baked traditions for free loaders!

  3. They are barbarians with oil. Without oil they would be eating sand because they don't have a real economy. Event the prospect of continuing low oil prices can doom them. Based on what they've done to the rest of the world I hope to see their bones bleaching in the sand.

    Cheers.

The worst discovery was oil for Arab Nations, and there has been nothing but trouble worldwide ever since.Without their Oil the world would be a safer, saner place to live in.

Don't expect oil to run out in our lifetime, and if it did the Arab Nations would still be Super Rich from Oil, and decades of untold wealth and investments, unfortunately

In the early 70s we were warned oil will run out in 40 years! not a very good forecast,to say the least !

  4. Why the universal credits is taking so long to roll out is amazing, but 2020 is noted for completion day ,just unrolling it piece meal at the moment.

The ghetto structures, cram dozens under one roof are in for a particularly bad time, that one roof ,one address is limited to £23000 inc housing benefit, probably being reduced further,a lot of disquiet will follow, no job? tough

They're probably pacing it carefully to avoid getting slung out at the next election wink.png

They are indeed pacing it, in part because of the political backlash in parliament (MPs in fear of losing their seats), in part because of public backlash because of genuine cases of hardship being created by reducing welfare, in part because of the substantial number of buy-to-let landlords who's business plan is based upon welfare supporting the rents they charge, and in part because of push back from businesses and public sector employers who, themselves hooked on welfare supporting the low wages they pay, claim they can't afford to pay a living wage.

Buy to let Landlords were busy renting out private housing in the 80s,while Margaret Thatcher's conservatives Party was busy vote buying by selling off the

Council Housing Stock, and it all progressed from there, with Interest rates for many years @....0.5% it wasnt difficult to see the best place to invest your

money, for maximum return! of 5-6 % of the house price! and more in richer areas.and indeed it was a business plan there for the taking, which is still driving up

house prices and creating a Landlords market to this very day, needless to say the Council Housing waiting list spans many years, and if one comes up years l

ater, don't expect it be in the area you want to live!

  5. There is almost no infringement on a member's sovereignty.

Nor was there with the European Common Market, predecessor of the EU.

Quite right, it's the political interference of the EU that's causing problems, the common market was a reasonable idea. The single currency was one of the coffin nails.

The single currency was sought by the now EU,but was refused by subsequent UK Political Parties, and that remains the position to this day! taking on board the

single currency has always been perceived as also giving up UK sovereinty and a step too far integrating with the EU,Monetarily, and not in the UKs best interests !

  7. Actually, refugee status is usually conferred on everyone in a particular household. Thus, you can have more than just parents and children. It may include grandparents as well as others. The trick is to actually show that they were all apart of the same household. It's not uncommon for people to try to 'sneak' a cousin or two and the occasional aunt.

If you can provide evidence that it was one household, then they are all allowed resettlement.

Just about everyone on this forum talks to the economic cost of permitting family reunion as one of their core objection, though the reality is 100% based upon anti-Muslim sentiment (visceral hatred of Muslims in general). As stated above & below is the criteria published by the German government; I understand the same policy also applies to some other countries.

Provided that the refugee is able to support him/herself and provide accommodation for the additional family members i.e. no welfare support.

The Refugees/Economic Migrants in question walked into somebody elses Country and made demands, which were met against the majority of the German peoples wishes, and now you expect them to support themselves, and not claim financial handouts in the first instance,Oh dear Simple one! Mrs Merkel will be proud of you,if no one else will !

But worse than that another Eu disaster in the making ! much worse than the Greece Default, and the other Bankrupts! sucking the Union dry.

  8. "There is no question that the influx of so many people will still demand more from us."--

Yes, especially your money, you foolish woman. About 17 billion euros, it appears, for this year alone.

Germany's federal states are planning to spend around 17 billion euros (12.6 billion pounds) on dealing with the refugee crisis in 2016, the newspaper Die Welt said on Tuesday, citing a survey it conducted among their finance ministries. The sum, bigger than the 15.3 billion euros that the central government planned to allocate to its education and research ministry in 2015, is a measure of the strain that the influx is causing across the country as a whole.

Merkel is not spending her "money"she is spending "the peoples money"which in turn will hasten the demise of the EU !

  9. I don't see the problem, she was asked, she agreed. And she is effectively buying a future favour from her boss, being the "Thai" way". Who knows what her future might hold if she cooperates with her employer and proves her value to him.

As an employee, I always did extra work when asked for no pay. Did that for three employers over 20 years, got serious promotions and pay rises.

Eventually bought out my last employer along with some other workmates that had "can do" attitudes. Grew the company 20 fold and now we all live on the beach in various parts of the world having all retired at 49 or thereabouts.

And now we're in the process of selling the business to the next crew of managers - blokes that we employed over the last 20 years.

And guess what, these guys worked hard, always did more than they were asked, got pay rises and bonuses, didn't whinge or toe the party line when it came to Union involvement.....get the picture? They benefited from their extra labour in more ways than another dollar an hour or an extra day off on your birthday. Now they are all wealthy in their own right and have access to raising some serious debt to buy us out.

Personally I have no time for whinging employees that think they are owed a living from their employer and open their Shop Steward's Handbook the minute you ask them to do one thing outside their defined job.

Unions evolved because of employers taking the piss...

Yea! £30 for a 40 hour week for slave labour and that was in the 80s !

  10. <quote>

The right to annual cost of living increases is a benefit, one that YOU are not entitled to, you are a leech by claiming UK benefits whilst living in Thailand, Muslims don't begin to compare!

    </quote>

You might describe it as a "benefit" but that is not strictly true because the pension and it's increases etc has been bought by that person over the years of their contributions. To describe a pensioner as a leech on the system begs the question of why those contributions were made for all those years.

    See my Post No 100

We've been over this ad nausaum and whatever label you want to give it -- pensions are based on contributions made. Housing benefit (for example) is not.

In which case it's earned, and should not be lumped in with Benefits,as it is now at the DWP and not my label.

  12. Expat Brits living in Thailand express outrage over foreigners going to live in the UK.

Sorry ,where do I collect my benefits and free accommodation here in Thailand ,do I now not have to do a 90 day report. Or put 800,000 ThAi baht into a bank account ? Don't make stupid posts ,

Is your UK State Pension being increased by 2.5% every year, do you receive the heating allowance and is a free NHS available to you when you "holiday" in the UK?

I paid in for it for 46 years ,so why shouldn't I? In fact I do not bother ,its not worth the hassle

You asked in post 76 where do you "collect your benefits" in Thailand, fact is you live in Thailand and still leach off the UK system for your benefits, and you think UK Muslims are bad for claimin benefits whilst they live there, Jeeze!!!.

Not bright are you ,it was sarcasm and I claim no benefits from the UK ,my pension is not a benefit ,I paid into the system all my life for it , if this is the height of your argumentative skills I would give up now ,while you are in the rear

See my Post No 100,State Pension has been reclassed ! @ DWP.

  13. The woman is barking, described as a bigot doesn't quite describe her fully.

    Agreed.

One might as well claim that "All elderly over-65 are on welfare", receiving pensions as many (but not all) of them do, or "All children are on welfare", since many mothers do receive Child-Benefits for them, "All unemployed are on benefits", except of course for when they're not entitled to them.

That just describes the welfare-state that has been built-up in the UK, over the past century or so, and one might argue has been too generous or expensive to fund, as the population of over-65s has grown & the working-population has declined.

The Baroness was born in 1934, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shreela_Flather,_Baroness_Flather , she will have seen the original dream of a just-and-fair safety-net grow, into its present entitlement-culture. I can understand that that must have been a difficult experience.

But she should not blame just one segment of society, for what has clearly gone wrong, and she should perhaps distinguish between "many" and "all" in her statements.

I myself also blame the politicians who made the glorious promises of 'Bread and Circuses', and the naive voters who believed them, or the civil-servants who drafted laws which have gone far beyond the original dream.

We're well-off out of the mess, living here ! rolleyes.gif

According to the DWP UK the State Pension that we worked 40 + years for,is now known as just another Benefit,so when a disagreement arises you have no

    argument!

The difference is: Expats in Thailand pay their way, there is no Benefits in Thailand for Expats!

Provide the evidence that foreigners in the UK do not pay their own way?!

You seem to be saying that Foreigners living in the UK pay their own way and do not claim Benefits, as is the case with Expats in Thailand??? which was my point!

We can prove easily that Expats do not claim Benefits from Thailand because there are none available!
