  1. Meanwhile, red-shirt leader Weng Tojirakarn yesterday warned of possible interference by a group that intended to cause trouble.

I am sure Prayut and his good buddy Suthep would love to see this happen, as it would give Prauut the perfect excuse to bring the hammer down harder on his opponents and to "extend" the time before elections can be held.

  2. The Defence Ministry plans to use the 1.5 billion baht fund to purchase rubber mattresses; build multi-purpose lawns using rubber as raw material, use rubber in road construction and in flooring ponds in rice fields.

What exactly does ANY of that have to do with defense?    Rhetorical question.

Never mind, it's just pocket money for defense dept.  Most will end up in the pockets of various generals.  Meanwhile, in other news, Prayut has confiscated Yingluck's bank accounts.

Enough of the pantomime! Grow some b.lls, generals! Too easy and simple?

No gatherings in a radius of 5km. around the Courthouse from August 18th. Enforced by police and army, all trespassers (from the first ones on...!) loaded up in caged trucks and transported to some armycamp to cool down for a few days or a week, 'hotheads' straight to the Court and minimum a month in gaol.

Days before August 25th already, all buses, trucks, etc. to Bangkok stopped and searched, all the ones  carrying possible red-shirts, after scanning in all ID-cards, quarantined for 12 (or 24 hours) before being returned home under escort.

    Voilà!

Scum and thugs making the law in the streets are no part of democracy, they pretend to be democrats, so they will understand that, LOL!

You may have missed it, but this junta has nothing to do with democracy, they are all about dictatorship, plain and simple.   They also overthrew a democratically elected government.  Not the world's best government, for sure, but elected by the people of Thailand.  So it is up to the people of Thailand to deal with their bad government.  That is NOT the job of the military.  In fact, the military just makes things worse every time they interfere.

Prayut and his backers are traitors and must be charged with treason and jailed for life.

I haven't done the procedure, since I am not an Immigration Officer, but watched them do it for me at an immigration office.  It took awhile, and involved a lot of paper and data-entry on a computer.  Others have also warned to allow extra time at the airport to clear immigration, because of this.

I did mine in January at the airport.  Took all of 5 minutes.

  5. Thailand is politically unstable.  I for one, would never move all my assets into this country (and I have not).  I bring in only what I need to live, every 3 months.  Far too risky to bring in everything.

I do hope the OP's faith in his Thai wife is well placed.

If the OP has the funds, and it sounds like he does, the Thai Elite visa is the (very) easy route.  If he will be living in Bangkok or one of the other cities with a Thailand Elite office, they will do the 90 day reporting for him, which I find very convenient.

  6. So here's how it will work.  Complaints against PTP, democrat or other civil politicians will be dealt with immediately, and harshly.  Complaints against the police will involve a committee that must decide whether to proceed, or not  (this one is delicate).   Complaints against the military will get filed in the trash immediately and without further discussion.

Talk about the fox guarding the hen house.  If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny.

Personally i think "Hooters" is behind the wanting a change as they can not find qualified thai lady's  to work

Just what I want to do.  Sit in Hooters ogling large breasted Russian women, while eating a $20 hamburger.  I won't even eat those overly expensive hamburgers when the ladies are Thai.  At least the Thai ladies are attractive, and mostly friendly.

Because this is Thailand. Making it harder and harder for the rest of us who have families here. I don't see it improving until after the "election".

You actually expect anything in this country to improve after an election?   Any election that occurs in the future under this junta will be rigged to favor the military.  The (sham) election will be just to appease the peons.

As I understand it there is no ATM air-side of immigration.  If you pass immigration to get to an ATM you have in fact entered the Kingdom and the only way to remove you is deportation - at least it is not as simple as being refused entry.

Another problem in respect of producing a bank book is that it is only accurate as at the date is was last updated. Even showing a credit card only shows you have a credit card; it does not show whether you are over limit etc.

Demanding to see cash is the simple way out for immigration. Having said that I am sure there is room for some leeway in handling this situation.

With mobile banking apps it is possible to show your CURRENT balance.  No need for cash or a bank book.   But they are overlooking the fact that most tourists are carrying CREDIT CARDS.  Credit cards allow for paying for most everything, and even getting a cash advance for those cash only expenditures.  So the Thai Immigration Department's  "show me the cash" policy is stupid, ignorant and out of touch with the reality of 21st century economics.

It also flies in the face of the Thai government's stated policy of moving to a cashless society.  You know, Thailand 4.0.
