Every delay is a triumph for team 45. Second anniversary of that phone call has past. The man with the orange face is ahead so far. So what now? Two weeks until the hearings. The length of time for the hearings. Sundry adjournments on the horizon. Mid-year is when the primary battles begin, maybe they can get a stall until after Election Day 2024, so that pushes it to 2025. Georgia might be improving from the corrupt, racist cesspit it has been since the Civil War, but it still has a way to go. I'm still curious how this perpetual delay business is supposed to play out in the end: if the accused dies before the conviction is that the same as winning? For the life of me, I could not see But I heard a brand new joke Two men were standing upon a bridge One jumped and screamed 'you lose' -- John Prine, "The Late John Garfield Blues"

They stormed the capitol on a Sunday. Huh? Brazil is very much a Catholic/Christian country, though their elections are held on Sundays. Brazil does not have an extradition treaty with the US. The best thing the US can do right now is deport Bolso: the US backed a military junta there for decades, and a lot of the people, even the younger generations, still see the US as an adversary. The deportation would greatly bolster the US's image with the populace.

Trump sued for wrongful death on second anniversary of January 6 riot
bendejo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Filing a lawsuit is effectively communicating with DT in his own language: MONEY! Anyone who has ever received a death threat after he publicly denounced them should get on it. That's a lot of people. Maybe even Fauci? -
Kevin McCarthy is finally the elected Speaker for the House
bendejo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
There is a knowledge gap, to put it nicely. Lots of retirees strike a bold, patriotic stance against socialism, a remnant sympathy from the Cold War years. So the GOP says "ok, we'll get rid of Social Security and Medicare." Then the geezers go ballistic saying "YOU CAN'T DO THAT! THOSE ARE OUR RIGHTS!!" This, in a nutshell, was what the Tea Party was about, grass-roots outrage against something they didn't understand. Kansas learned the hard way. They put Tea Party pols spouting "less spending! Smaller gov't" in office, and when public service things started disappearing the people said "hey, what's going on?" Well, this is what you voted for! I think the lesson learned for the Kansans was reflected in that vote last year where they voted to uphold abortion rights. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin is the one pushing to get the annual review of the SS system passed. Uh-huh. A large part of the GOP base (pre MAGA) is people over 60 -- they sure are gonna love ya, Ronnie. But the GOP is good at gift-wrapping the turds, so they get these things past their voters (that's what all those pollsters are for). It's like the airlines did with taking all the comforts away saying "this way you only pay for what you want" and in doing that the cost of flying went up. -
Kevin McCarthy is finally the elected Speaker for the House

Thanks buddy, that pic ruined my dinner. Let's see if the rest of The House lets that fly. Like these other promises ol' Kev handed out like xmas treats. Do not underestimate the length of time the GOP is willing to beat a dead horse. Benghazi! was three years. There is NO reason to believe they will not continue with it. -

Yes. Like they did with their voter suppression moves -- it hadn't occurred to them that it could discourage their own from voting, like it did last November. Ready, fire, aim. -
Kevin McCarthy is finally the elected Speaker for the House

If there is one thing I learned last year it is that these House investigations yield NOTHING! Look at the 1/6 thing: they dug up all this stuff and what is the most stringent thing they can do? Refer it to DOJ. That's it. DOJ may be too busy to get to it. If a GOP president were due to be inaugurated this year that report would be binned. Members of Congress that get subpoenaed can tell the committee to shove it without consequence, like Jordan did. If they get to a grand inquisition over Hunter's laptop it will embarrass the Biden family -- he's on his own vid smoking crack, for chrissake. The worst it will get is they can rain on Biden's re-election. If Joe runs again. Maybe they'll hype it that Hunter's laptop has an AI that will cause it to morph into Skynet, as in the Terminator movies. ???? Kevin McCarthy is finally the elected Speaker for the House
bendejo replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Let's not forget that MAGA has no real policies: they stand for whatever DT said most recently. And an hour later he'll likely deny saying it. Let's not forget who is really running the GOP. The babble and bravado is still where it's at. Maybe we should all call him "my Kevin." These promises Kevin made can be reneged, and I'm sure there are others in his party who are resolving to keep the nutters who think they will be controlling him on a short leash. (Actually I think Boebert would look hot on a short leash, but I digress). What, a politician not keeping a promise? And aren't certain people going to be floored if and when the Dems start using the motion to vacate just for the fun of it. This Republican Party is brought to you by the letter K. As in Kevin. And K Street. -

Trump loses again in yet another court fight over Mar-a-Lago documents scandal
bendejo replied to Scott's topic in World News
I suspect he has some sort of he-man fetish. When he gets taken down it has to be by someone he admires. Remember him being in awe of Bob Woodward? I haven't heard much about him doing the usual insult barrage on Smith. Or am I missing it? -
Trump loses again in yet another court fight over Mar-a-Lago documents scandal
bendejo replied to Scott's topic in World News
For six years (and counting!) we saw this scofflaw pushing at the rules with no reprimand beyond the certain press outlets saying "ooo! Look what he did now!" And after each move he upped the stakes with something even bolder. As I was saying during the time they were giving him enough rope. It's getting close to the noose end. Mr Smith has come to Washington. This must have been a rough week for him and the preening peacocks of the Senate, with all the press focused on The House. Or what should be The House, which does not exist as of this writing. -
OPINION: When will Republican voters wake up to their own oppression?
bendejo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Supposedly the pharmaceutical industry is the biggest, well, let's say donor. Each member of Congress has a team of pharma reps that work them. Sinema did a big favor for Pfizer in 2021, I think they dropped so much $$$ on her that she is still stunned. -

They'll violate is as they've done before. One time they hit a train headed for the border under a similar agreement, civilians trying to flee. -

Boebert is trying to show continued loyalty to DT while at the same time daring to defy his directions on the vote. She was on MSNBC last night trying to double-talk how that works; the hostess kept her cool, but her expression said it all, even gave up listening and started reading something else. Just think, six renegade GOP-ers would truly shake Congress. Perhaps it will bring the dawn of a second Age of Miracles. CSPAN cameras right now show Jordan and Gaetz in a huddle, Mutt & Jeff.

It's like with the various election recounts: we're going to keep counting the votes until the numbers say that we win. But there's no Federal Election Commission involved here to enforce sanity. The only miracle in sight (other than a sundry Act of God) is that a few Republicans vote Jeffries. The howl from the right side, along with the cheers of the left, could very well cause the Capitol dome to crack.

A certain television commentator sees this as the "indooor" version of what happened on 1/6. The apologists are probably regretting playing down the insurrection.
