  1. If they are looking for a frozen continent they're in the right place. Sure hope nothing happens to it.
  2. Looks like we're going back to season 1. So he denies any kind of hanky panky, then he wants to sue her for violating the hush money agreement. So much for his very good brain.
  3. Matty Groves? But we are told what Maxwell did with his hammer, whereas in Delilah "I felt the knife in my hand, and she laughed no more." Quite artful. Or did he use the knife to cut a piece of smelly cheese, which she found disgusting? ???? It can really go off the rails with sanitizing classical theatre, opera, etc. The Kate Blanchett movie "Tar" touches on this kind of thing; "but I'm not into cis composers" says one of the characters.
  4. I would expect that as soon as this laptop business surfaced Papa Joe put the whole business in the care legal and political pros, told the kid to keep his damn crack-smoking mouth shut. He might be on the verge of doddering in his behavior, but Joe has been in DC a long time, and even when a mere senator was a known for being a sociable and popular guy. On St Paddy's day he gives a breakfast celebration and invites all Irish people who work the capitol, including journalists. He's not a miracle worker but he knows how to make things happen in the legislative and executive. I don't see any of the Dem presidential hopefuls who can bring that as well as he does.
  5. It is a ballad of a crime of passion. Not unheard of in Latin culture, and on TJ's original recording there are some Mariachi horns to give it that flavor. "Franky & Johnny" is about the same thing, been around longer than Delilah, but in this case it's the woman committing the crime. "♫ he done her wrong . . . ♫" And then there is the real-life story of jazz musician Lee Morgan whose death could be called an enactment of F&J.
  6. I'm waiting for someone in the MAGA-sphere to claim they found Hunter was exchanging emails with Lee Harvey Oswald.
  7. Hey, get a copyright on this! You'll may never have money worries again. But be sure to use the word "b*tch" several times.
  8. I know you mean this sarcastically, but in certain places, like Berkeley, California (in the San Francisco area) I would not be at all surprised to hear of a serious effort regarding this.
  9. Macbeth killed a king. Though race is not referenced the presumption is the king is a white man. The play will be declared safe for consumption. Othello was a black man betrayed by his (again, presumably white) servant. Uh-oh. Romeo & Juliet? It's just a matter of time.
  10. I suspect it may be a move in the direction of putting the family back together.
  11. One of my fave pop songs. My Brazilian girlfriend liked it, and after I did a translation she loved it, would play it for her girlfriends. Welsh rugby teams have choirs?
  12. The tide is turning. No more Barr/Durham, no more russiarussiarussia hoax (as DT likes to repeat frequently), no more "no collusion" chant. Now is revealed the real Russia involvement. There is going to be a lot hitting the fan in the next few weeks. Will that certain private jet flight to Moscow in the dark of night finally come to pass? Barr in steel bracelets? My concern is Garland's DOJ may not pick up on this: not for love of the DT cabal, but for the image of the US DOJ. Frankly, between the DT years and the corrupted Supreme Court the damage has already been done, Garland needs to have the dept. fumigated and aired out. As for the GOP they seem to have realized that RIGHT NOW is the time for them to move on their orange Caesar lest they end up with him dominating the primaries. All but the dumbest Americans (app. 35% of the electorate) are anticipating the "Et tu, Brutus" moment. May be trouble with the MAGA money fountain as well https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-revamps-fundraising-struggling-2024-presidential-campaign-rcna65779 Inflation's a b*tch, isn't it?
  13. Knocking back a pint of water first thing in the morning is an excellent thing. I do it while making coffee.
  14. A raft with a house on it? Should have started small, like this gal.
  15. He's not a doughnut, he's a hole. Planning a future, including buying retirement property, with someone you've never met? And now, not only does everybody know he's a sap, but he also has millions of baht that may not be too difficult to get him to part with.
  16. No one adds a codicil without motivation. The girl thought her mama ain't nuthin' but a hound dog.
  17. A story from around 10 years ago, may have originated on a backpacker website. Backpacker girl in Vang Vien gets shirtfaced drunk, takes Lao boy back to her room. Wakes up in the morning and boy is gone, so are some of her things. She tells the innkeeper, who calls the police. She tells them her story, they tell her she is now a criminal. She didn't get banged up, but I would think it made a hole in her holiday budget. On the lighter side: a bunch of farang are sitting around putting away beers in VTE and when the subject of companionship comes up one of them mentions the no sex with foreigners law. Half of the guys never heard of this before, and are remarking they'll save their punting for when they return to LOS. When the hub-bub dies down after a few moments, it is the Aussie who asks "how long do they lock you up for?"
  18. An important thing to find out when meeting a Thai lady: does she have a penis? Well, ok, maybe not so important to some guys.
  19. There was a story that a disgruntled employee of Tesla quit, and EM was able to remotely disable the car. I have been unable to track this story down, anyone have any reference to back it up? Now that we know what a wacko he's capable of being this could kill the product -- not just his own antics, but if the capability really exists it could be hacked.
  20. A certain member of US Congress from New York (whose name I will not mention in an attempt to not have certain AN members froth at the mouth) said they wanted an electric car they could drive from NY to DC without having to stop and recharge. The only one they could find that claimed to handle it was a Tesla; this was 3 years ago. The city-to-city distance is around 250 miles and in the best driving conditions would take app. 4 hours. But it involves passing through a few urban areas prone to stand-still traffic jams, so 5-6 hours is a more practical guesstimate if not driving in the wee hours. And of course there is the incidental driving in the destination areas. "At the time, it was the only EV that could get me from New York to Washington on like one, or one-and-a-half charges, I would love to switch.” At least EM allows us the opportunity to tell someone to "go back to Africa!" and not be branded a racist for it. ????
  21. I'm not sure what the subtext is here, but a very real issue has been that certain EV companies would exaggerate their numbers (like 'miles per charge') and buyers getting stranded when the juice runs out far below estimate. At this point, I still think of EVs as second cars, and one thing to consider if buying one is arranging for someone you can count on to pick you up when it goes bad. Maybe things have been improving.
  22. They live in fear of the nutters giving them the Paul Pelosi treatment. Or worse.
  23. Went out and bought some Windex to clean off the ol' crystal ball and laundered the fortune-teller turban. The man who DeSantisized Florida politics will be out of the running by the time of the first primary, at least a year away.
  24. Not curious at all. The fossil fuel industry is not going to sit on it's thumbs while the world shoves it to the wayside. Paying off politicians in post-Reagan America is the way things work now (it was illegal before then, it was called graft, now it is legal and called "political action committee donations"). DT is just another pocket-stuffing bootlick to Big Industry, like all the other PAC-fed members (or wannabe members) of the gov't. But on a dollar-per-vote value, DT is the top of the food chain, with so much support by the great unwashed who value his every word. So powerful that the pols in his party are gutless when it comes to standing up to him. Now what is curious, IMO, is the way US national news never mentions the vandalism being done to EVs. Here's a taste, a web search will give you more. https://www.osvehicle.com/why-are-electric-cars-being-vandalized-more-and-more/ Ford has developed an electric pickup truck that is virtually a power station on wheels, and is so kick-*ss that the thing is massively back-ordered. https://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/f150-lightning/2022/ I would not doubt that petro-biz is at this very moment hard at work trying to kill the product in its crib. I'm sure Fox Talk Channel does not want to lose Ford as a sponsor, let's see how they play through this.
  25. If they were magical the vendor would have used one to not be in the financial straits of a street peddler.
