Thanks, but 3 times I called transferwise and they cannot do it because it must be in IAT format for them to get it here. Also that since the funds never leave the USA because they use Thai bank to fund it, it will not look international.

They walked me through every step.

I found this email here on TV that talks about getting Social Security payments to Thailand. It has some hope.

I use TW every month. They transfer to my BKK Bank account here in Khon Kaen.

I called them months ago. Told them they are jeopardizing my visa. They did something on my account and every transfer since shows as an Intl Transfer.

    Thanks all.

I have neither bought Office nor have an Office 365 account. I got Office for Mac  pre-installed  when I bought my old computer and if possible would like to do the same this round though not absolutely essential.

Thanks for the various  inks. What "Turbo charge" does is one of the things I tried asking at the shops as I assumed it meant that when needed the computer would process at the speed indicated but I could not get a coherent answer other than they all said the new machine would be slower.

    Which I found dubious.

Looks to me like if I buy a 2.4GHz 4 core that turbo charges to  4.1GHz I should definitely get better speeds when multitasking and perhaps equivalent speed when single tasking, is that right? For that matter even a 1.4 four core that turbos up to 3.9 should be better though perhaps not by much?

Re memory I have 8 RAM. Strorage is 750Gb but after 8 years of use I have used a little  less than 2 (and that without being good about deleting unnecessary files) so 256 storage should work.  Would I need more than 8 RAM/would it make a difference/is it easily added?

I would suggest 512Gb and 16Gb of RAM as you will be much happier with the performance. For the usage you describe, the 1.4 should work fine for you.

  3. 3BB has a promotion called My Swop. Log into your 3BB account and it will show you the different speeds you can swop for and it FREE. I have 700/700. For me, I want all the download speed I can cat as a rarely do many uploads.

    I swooped my 700/700 for 1000/400. I also had a choice of 900/500 or 800/600.

You can swop as many times as you wish till you find the best speed for you..

Pretty good deal with no cost...

OK, I took one last stab at this for tonight on the issue of the 1500b customs exemption.

The ONE Amazon Fire device that you can order from Amazon in the U.S. for shipment to Thailand is their Fire Stick basic edition, which is a model specially designed for international markets where Amazon Prime services are not available. It happens to retail for $49.99!

In that particular case, when I priced it for shipping, Amazon DID charge both the international shipping fee of $19.98 AND a customs deposit of $11.68, for a total order price of $79.65, but no U.S. state sales tax.

So, just exactly when Amazon starts adding a customs duty charge for packages to Thailand seems a bit unclear. But at least, their added costs are offset a bit by apparently not having to pay U.S. state sales tax on items shipped abroad.

PS - However, the NBTC licensing issue still exists for imported streaming devices. So I'd be real curious to know if anyone ever tried ordering and shipping one of these Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition items to Thailand. You clearly wouldn't have to pay any additional customs duty under Amazon's setup. But would the package actually make it thru Customs without getting seized, because it's being handled by the private couriers who are much more strict about such things, and not USPS/Thai Post?

I have ordered 4 TV Boxes from Amazon and one from eBay Global Program.

The Amazon TV boxes went through Customs without a hitch. The eBay Box was flagged by customs and returned to the sender. eBay did provide a full refund.

What is killing it for Amazon sometimes is the shipping. It's way more expensive if the item is heavy or bulky.

Amazon has new lower shipping rates to Thailand.  A TV box will cost about $8.00 for 7-10 day delivery via UPS.

I find the cost acceptable knowing I'm getting 100% real products from Amazon.

    AmazonGlobal Shipping    +    $8.98
Estimated Import Fees Deposit    +    $0.00

In the past 2 years I have purchased 4 Android TV Boxes with no issues. Most were delivered within 7-10 days by UPS.

Amazon has an agreement with Thai Customs to collect all fees in advance. The price you pay is a guaranteed delivered price.

    Example:

If you buy the $45.00 Roku you will pay the following.

    Price:

$44.99 + $18.08 Shipping & Import Fees Deposit to Thailand

You will pay no additional charges.

The major disadvantage of an Android box, for me, is the lack of official support for Netflix.  Many boxes won't even load the app from the Play Store.  You can (could?) download a version of the app from the Netflix website or get one from a third party site.  Even, then you may be limited to an SD stream.  The only boxes I'm aware of that are generally available in Thailand are the Nvidia Shield and Xioami Mi Box — and then you're limited to the Android TV Play Store, as mentioned by Crossy above.

The Smart TV version of YouTube is also woeful, with really limited features compared to the phone version which runs on a standard Android box.  The main one is the lack of a way to change the input language.  Not a big problem for many people but in a bilingual household, it's an annoyance.  You also don't seem to be able to view any comments, let alone make one.

For me, I got a Smart TV on sale which only really gets used for Netflix and I've got an Android box for everything else.

I have a Shield with quite a few side-loaded apps that run just fine.

These boxes are Google certified and can run Netflix

    1. Nvidia Shield TV. The power user's Android TV box of choice, the Nvidia Shield TV is an absolute beast. ...
    2. Xiaomi Mi Box S. Xiaomi. ...
    3. Skystream Three Plus. Skystream. ...
    4. Ematic Jetstream 4K Ultra HD TV Box. Walmart.

  9. BMW has an option to include 3 years of service. The price is model dependant but averages B40,000.

Just a drop in the bucket when you consider the price of the vehicle.

** Price with BSI STANDARD package; 3 years of maintenance or 60,000 km. (whichever comes first) and 3 years unlimited mileage warranty.

I don't know much about these things, and I don't play  computer games, but both of my firesticks are 4K, and I love the Voice recognition it makes searching for content a breeze.  I sit down and I say "Alexa play CNN news on fire TV" and it does

The Shield is Alexa certified. I watch CNN USA everyday. From what I understand, [not 100% sure] Alexa will not function the same way here in Thailand. For some reason Amazon has limited it's functions. You need to verify this with Alexa users here in Thailand.

The new Shield that was released last week is more powerful then mine. The cost is $199. and you usually get what you paid for with upscale units.

With worldwide time differences, many like to download content and view it at a later time. You need SD slots or USB ports to do so.

How is Nvidia shield and Sky stream  beat Firestick 3 hands down?

Nvidia is known as the number 1 streaming box. The processor is designed for streaming and gaming. Buffering on my box is far and few. The SkyStream is more or less a copy of the Shield. It was specifically designed for streaming but does use an off the shelf processor.

Both the Shield and the SkyStream have 3G of Ram. The Shield is Google certified and will stream 4K and Netflix flawlessly. Most other boxes and sticks will not support 4K.

The Firestick Cube supports 4K but the stick does not. If you do not have a 4K TV then this may be a moot point.

Don't get me wrong, the Firestick will work fine here in Thailand and since you have a couple, I say use them.

I have used a Firestick for 3 years and it beats boxes hands down.

Firesticks are decent but does not beat boxes like the Nvidia Shield and SkyStream 3 hands down.

Both SkyStream and the Shield will run circles around the Firestick.
