Police speculate 'internal conflict' in homemade bomb blast

PHUKET: -- A small homemade time bomb planted in a garbage can went off yesterday afternoon near the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation office, but no injuries were reported. Only five official vehicles nearby were slightly damaged.

Police suspect that the motive was not to kill anyone but to threaten someone, possibly due to an internal conflict.

Paiboon Upatising, president of the Phuket PAO, claimed there was no discord within the organisation, whether over procurement or budget spending, and the PAO election had been over a long time ago, so it was unlikely that politics was involved.

Some people might be upset about the results of the recent bidding for space concessions, but the process was transparent, he said.

Police were alerted to the explosion near the PAO office within the Phuket City Hall complex in Tambon Talad Yai of Muang district at around 2pm.

Pol Col Saneh Kawila, deputy Phuket police chief, said police would continue to investigate this case, which should not concern tourism.

Security in the complex would be beefed up, he added.

which should not concern tourism? I suppose it's too late to be concerned after being killed by a bomb?
  2. New Heading - "FORANG SETS HIMSELF UP TO GET A FREE FRISKING" A Belgian accused of phone theft at Soi 6 Bar in Central Pattaya admitted today that he was desperate for a "frisk" and as he didn't have a pot to piss in he devised a plan to get his way by, stealing a phone and cunningly putting it inside his trousers! After the frisking he confirmed that he had been having a hard time but now, except for some TV posters everyone was happy!

  3. You got the severance part wrong! If you resign from a company they only need to pay you until the final day of working (severance is if they try sacking you). Your friend is very much entitled to her last months salary and yes, she should first inform the company (in writing) that she intends to take labour court action against them for non-payment. By labour law, theft is a reason for dismissal but, as she wasn't dismissed and as no report of theft was made to the police they might have a hard time proving it. Even if they have proof of theft or that she ignored company policy and didn't protect their stock they still do NOT have the right to withhold salary but could start a criminal or civil action against her. To sum it up she is very much entitled to be paid for the work she has done and any complaint by the company regarding stock is a completely separate matter. Most companies will pay up after a phone call from the local labour department who will arrange a meeting between your friend and the company, after which, should the company not pay up the labour department will start a labour tribunal case against them.

  4. As much as it is funny and the humor is appreciated relating to the statement, "Toyota Vehicle, make and model unknown", ridiculing the Thai peoples' intelligence is uncouth. Thailand is far more advanced and economically stable than many western countries. This could not have been achieved without some intelligence from the Thai population.

I had no intention of ridiculing Thai people, I just read the report and felt that it was my duty (as a resident of over 33 years) to point out that they had missed a very important piece of evidence and it is a Toyota they should be looking for! Now that they have this information to hand it will stop the police having to stop all makes of vehicles to find which one the "Toyota" bumper belongs to!
  5. How can teenagers be so violent? What causes them to be so savage?

    From http://www.aacap.org/AACAP/Families_and_Youth/Facts_for_Families/Facts_for_Families_Pages/Understanding_Violent_Behavior_In_Children_and_Adolescents_55.aspx

Numerous research studies have concluded that a complex interaction or combination of factors leads to an increased risk of violent behavior in children and adolescents. These factors include:

    • Previous aggressive or violent behavior
    • Being the victim of physical abuse and/or sexual abuse
    • Exposure to violence in the home and/or community
    • Genetic (family heredity) factors
    • Exposure to violence in media (TV, movies, etc.)
    • Use of drugs and/or alcohol
    • Presence of firearms in home
    • Combination of stressful family socioeconomic factors (poverty, severe deprivation, marital breakup, single parenting, unemployment, loss of support from extended family)
    • Brain damage from head injury
You missed out "being completely mentally retarded" with the complaint being passed down by the mother and father!

  6. Koh Samet is 13km2, the slick is at least the same size if not bigger and at least 2mm thick? that is a lot of litres.

Using these numbers then a 15 square kilometres slick at 2mm thick would be some 30,000 cubic metres which is some 30,000,000 litres. Quiet a difference from the supposed 50,000 litres spilled claim

Hope those back of envelope numbers are aright

If however oil was only 1mm and only dispersed over 30% of the area in balck.. i.e oil doesnt cover the entire area then the magnitude of the spill would be 4500 cubic metres or 4,500,000 litres .

From size of spill it might appeaer that PTT are being economical with truth as to number of litres that actually escaped.

As it appears that PTT are being economical with truth as to number of litres does any poster think that now is the time to fill the car up? Maybe they'll be economical with truth as to number of litres pumped so, saving us all money!
  7. Quote: "It's normal that mum and dad should be worried about me, but my wife [Pimpen Vejjajiva] is not worried at all. She strongly believes in my innocence," Abhisit said.

Does that mean his parents know that he is guilty or, that after all those years studying in England, his use of the language is still lacking?

Did he study Thai in England?

Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

No, he studied English and the quote in the posting is in that language. It's amazing how a tongue in cheek posting gets so many replies on this site, funny don't you think?
