Seasteading is ridiculous. How do you think the US would react if the Chinese or Russians set up shop 12 miles off the Florida Keys. Waste disposal of all kinds. It the couple considered themselves outside Thai jurisdiction they would have to have stamped in and out of immigration (including his Thai partner) the same as to would going to Myanmar or Malaysia. Of course, Thais may feel they have jurisdiction and then they would not have to check in and out. The seasteaders can't have it both ways. but then neither can Thai authorities. Either way, his visa has been revoked, he has not reported his whereabouts as is required by law, he has probably has violated waste disposal regulations. Facing a death sentence, not probable, a lengthy jail sentence and lifetime blacklisting, highly likely.

Let me get this right. You are a day late transferring control of media company shares and you are disqualified from the election after winning too many seats, yet there are no issues if you lead a military coup against the former government because you gave yourself the magic article 44 wand.

We live in interesting times.

About 4 days ago they said they had enough for another 39 days and had made arrangements for private water sources if needed. Now it seems the truth is coming out. Oh well. We will soon see what comes to pass.

Thank goodness for him his staff does not do what he says or he would be facing obstruction charges.

The only problem with bringing a reusable cup to help with environmental waste is they use a disposable cup to measure out the amount to then pour into your stainless steel travel mug. I shake my head.

Really no need to spend more than 200-250 baht with a beer included. Lots of options at the likes of Cheap Charlies on Soi Bukaho.

These scams have been going on for a long time and anybody who reads the news knows this. The same happens in Hati, but without the tourists. Almost none of the children are orphans. Most NGO's operating around the world are scams, and that includes the big ones. CEO's making millions and with fat expense accounts as well. Only 2% of the money donated for causes is actually spent on site in the project. They justify it by saying 2% is better than nothing.

Just trying to get the final burn in before the rains finally return.

I only by the four pack yogurts at Makro after checking that they don't have the small plastic spoons wrapped in plastic. Why just not buy a small spoon to use for yogurt? Your small contribution to cutting back on plastic waste.

So, he paid for the house, "tricked" her into giving him a thirty-year lease. Half over now. I would advise her to wait another 15 years and get the whole amount. I would not trust the guy. He will sell and take the whole amount. He failed to live up to his end of the deal, youth, and beauty for security for her. In 15 years it will be hers. Patience.

Why not, after all, you have a corrupt billionaire chocolatier and a comedian/actor to choose from and the corrupt billionaire chocolatier has already had his chance.

Just wondering if he stamped in and out of immigration every time he came ashore. If he is claiming it as a sea-stead and not part of Thailand I would think that this would be necessary. Even for his wife.

Get used to it. Unless it rains in the next 3-4 weeks to shut down will be extended until the rains return.

Chump change. Grace Mugabe would spend more than that on her frequent shopping trips to Singapore. (Or so it has been reported). The first thing a leader in third world countries must do when they come to power is set aside a go-bag with lots of cash to see them through there golden years. His mistake was not bolting sooner. Hopefully, his golden years will now be spent in the Sudan super-max equivalent.

Kids grow fast and unless you plan to have several children or pass the clothes to friends/relatives who are having children there really is no need for "high" quality. As for name brands, do you really think a two year old cares? It is all about face for the parents. Spend time holding, playing, feeding, keeping the child clean and dry. Don't worry about name brand shoes and clothing. If you have too much they will wear them 3-4 times and then grow out of them. I do know people that bought so many clothes the kids never even wore them before they outgrew them. Just my opinion. Up to you how you spend your money.

Time served sounds reasonable to me. A big nothing as far as I am concerned. It's not like she had or revealed any state secrets. Just another NRA hard-line gun enthusiast who happened to be Russian and didn't register as a foreign lobbyist. Big whoops.

I was actually surprised to read that Trump feared this investigation would end his presidency. What I think he should really fear is his taxes/businesses come under the microscope. Specifically money laundering for the Russian mafia/government officials through his UBS loans and his building projects around the world. Russians have bought a lot of real estate from Trump.

I find the bucket of water heaved at you as you ride along the road on your scooter much more dangerous than any pvc water gun.

I have had the lift stop at the condo I stay here in Thailand, then go down a half floor and open allowing me to exit. It has happened several times. I have not been stuck in an elevator. I always bring my cell phone, just in case it does stop and I can't exit.

Yes, I have my passports, credit cards, house cash, cell phones, medication, handy to grab and place in my backpack. Grab some clothes, (shirts, and shorts). I can be out the door in 30 seconds in the case of a fire with everything important, two minutes if it wasn't so urgent as I would also want my laptop and a few other items.

I believe Thai authorities are making a huge mistake. Expat retirees in Thailand bring in a huge amount of money. Even those on the marriage extension of stay at 400,000 baht are bringing in a big chunk of foreign currency. How many tourists spend 400,000 baht while in Thailand. The problem is the TAT is more interested in numbers and spend per day. That makes a Chinese tourist spending 6,000 baht a day, on a four-day junket a "high-quality" tourist. The TAT should be looking at total spend in Thailand not daily spend, but that doesn't play into there narrative of look what a great job we are doing. I don't know how the expat exodus from CM will make things better for those who stay other than maybe those who stay will be appreciated more, but just as likely is that they will be resented as part of the group that left, deserting Thailand and causing businesses to lose money.

Thaksin given 3-year imprisonment for Exim Bank’s loan to Myanmar
in Thailand News

Not sure, the loan was to buy telecommunications equipment from his company, so a definite conflict of interest. Was the loan ever paid back? I am not sure. But lending that kind on money to a military dictatorship that was under UN sanctions to purchase equipment from your company is highly unethical. Ordering the loan to be made when the bank did not want to, basically amounts to theft if it was not fully repaid. A three-year sentence when he made millions of dollars seems like a very lite sentence.
