  1. I do not think any of them are good, but that does not mean that Thaksin is innocent.

They all lie cheat steal and are corrupt, but no one ever gets in trouble or they will all get in trouble. For once, the law is being enforced. It should be enforced all of the time, but once is a start. and yes, I know why it is being done this time.

  2. I fail to see a parallel between sex tourism, beer bars and the basement flooding in Central. :o

Could we try and steer this back on topic thanks.

    Google Search Engine Hits for:

    722,000 for "Pattaya for sex"

58,600 for "Pattaya for family vacation"

3,640 for "Central Festival Pattaya flooding"

We know now what most people are more interested in. :D

    Try these in Google:

    Pattaya + sex = 717,000 hits

    Pattaya + beach = 1,230,000 hits

Obviously more people are interested in Pattaya Beach according to your scientific approach.

    _____

I agree that the city would not die.

    Pattaya + beach = 1,230,000 hits

Pattaya = 14,800,000 ; Does this mean only 1 in 12 who look into Pattaya are concerned with the beach?

No, it doesn't. I would not go that far, but "Pattaya Beach" is a very common name for Pattaya. Searching "Pattaya Beach" is just a long name for searching "Pattaya".

Pattaya would not die, like a ghost town, or Lansing, Michigan, but the decrease in business activity would lead to a large number of unemployed, an increasing rate of in the plummeting prices of houses and condos, meaning more and more buyers defaulting, and the list goes on.

Look at all of the other beach resorts for tourists in Thailand, and see how little these places have grown versus Pattaya.

  3. The thousands of people killed in Thaksin's so-called War on Drugs were never given the opportunity to see a court room as Thaksin was. The majority of them had nothing to do with the drug business. No tears for Thaksin here.

He may have given some crumbs to the rural poor, but he also cheated, lied, and stole for himself, and killed many.

He did not share his booty with enough of the other leading families, and they showed their resentment with the coup.

  4. I have lived here for 1/2 of my adult life, starting in 1988. That is when I bought and then sold my first of seven houses here. I have watched “changes” in many things. Yes, some things on the surface have changed, but nothing beneath it.

If the sex tourists (who spend three times as much money on other things than sex), were to vanish........

A lot of the money which tourists who engage in sex, pay to the women they see, goes back into the local economy. Bargirls spend money here. They earn 20,000 (or whatever)/ month and spend much of it here. Yes, some goes back home. Poor girls working as waitresses and shopgirls earn a paltry sum, and have little to spend. So, they put little into the local economy. I am not defending sex-tourism, simply showing that a large sum of Pattaya's non-hotel expenditures can be attributed to tourists who seek sex.

Their disappearance would mean a disappearance of spending by bargirls/gogo girls as well, and that would show up in a large reduction in income to all of Pattaya.

Why has Pattaya grown so much over the past 20 years, while other cities without an industry to attract tourists who seek sex, have not grown at anywhere near the same rate?

The Chinese busloads, have you seen them tip? Russians do not do a lot of that either. The Chinese are on pre-set tour plans, paid for in advance.

The Russians will slow, and already are. Their currency and their economy are leading many to forgo their vacations here and / or to reduce expenditures while here.

The Chinese have never assisted anyone anywhere to do anything, and Pattaya will prove to be no exception.

  5. A friend of mine has been selling his 1913? Austrian coins at a gold shop in Paragon, and receiving 2,000 baht / coin mor than the gold shops have offered him in Pattaya. PM me and that will remind me to find out the name of the shop for you.

And, in the future, if you are able, try to stick to gold bars, as trying to get back the premium you pay for coins is difficult.

  6. Again thanks for all of the information

I have had the engine modified and have also added a larger carb.

I did nothing other than change the exhaust and bore the engine from 100cc to 125cc on my 15-year old Honda Dream. The difference in performance once the engine was spinning at half speed was, well from slow to medium. That simple change really did make a difference.

So, I did the same thing to an old 2-stroke Suzuki, simply bored it out, and what a difference it made.

  7. wow!!

    Thanks

I will dop in on my next trip to Bkk

Do you want only the filter element or the actual filter housing? 2cunivsm.jpgAftermarket K&N Fliter housing can be bought at most acessory shops like the ones about 200m from Saphan Kwauy

    BTS.

Here my bike has a trumpet but usually has a SS "K&N" filter bought in Rayong.KICX0009-1.jpg

    Thanks

I am in Pattaya so Rayong is a lot easier to get to than Bangkok.

I would need both the housing (after market) and the filter, or the equivalent from another company. I am not tied to K&N, that just happened to be the one that was mentioned to me by an auto mechanic friend.

After the filter, I would then be interesed in a better exhaust. I have read about a Yoshimura TITAN underbone all color oval silent sport perfomance exhaust, but have no idea where to find a small one.

    Thanks

  8. ^also in Chiang Mai and Phuket I might add. :o

Never seen them in Chiang Mai, Loh Kroi, moon muang etc unless they stick to the nightmarket area that is.

Probably a good thing on some levels, but I think having your own race wandering around as renta-cop while the rest are enjoying themselves with the women and drink is a bit off-putting. The last thing I'd want to see is a farang-police connection while carousing with the night ladies.

That said I think the FTPA would work brilliantly in a capital city like bangkok and on a more spread out footing. Have a sprinkling of them in the various provinces in the police stations there. If any problems then off they go with the BIB to help out that way.

Why concentrate on a small city resort like Pattaya? Or a single street like Walking Street. Farang wander the entire country now, spread them around instead of dumping them in Pattaya and Phuket.

The uniform is a bit ott. A patch, badge or armband would suffice.

You don't have to wear it just keep it on you.

  9. I have a Wave 125i which I bought at an auction, 9 months old, for 18,000 baht.

I am very happy with it.

I have friends who feel the Dream is more of a low-end torque, family bike, while the Wave is a better bike for higher speeds. Also that the Dream has stiffer suspension.

I also have a 14 year old Dream which I have modified to 125cc and added a more benefical exhaust. I will keep it forever. I use it with the trailer I have.

They are both very well made machines.

  10. In Pattaya

the Siam Commercial Bank branch on Beach Road has a board with the properties it has available.

In Jomtien, on Theprasert Road, only two blocks from Thapraya Road, the connecting road on the south side leads to the government auction house. They hold auctions every week, a couple of times. There are books and a board which list all of the upcoming properties.
