Abhisit may return as leader of the Democrat Party
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I hope he retires and has a happy life. I think he was one of the best politicians Thailand ever had. And certainly the best PM from the last decades. But until now the majority of Thais clearly didn't want a smart and honest leader. Let's see what will happen now.- 28 replies

I am pretty sure the Thai beef in Foodland was chilled until it arrived and never frozen. Freezing meat doesn't make it better. If I can get good tasting chilled beef or frozen beef, then I prefer chilled, never frozen.

Coming back to my questions above, is there something like a "British restaurant" which is not a pub? Anywhere, not just in Bangkok or Thailand? I know some pub food like fish and chips or beef and Guinness stew. Now is that pub food or British food or both of it? I think Italy has some distinction in the type of food places. There are pizzerias and there are "proper" Italian restaurants. Until now I thought pubs are similar to pizza places in the UK. But do they have "real" restaurants? Or are those real restaurants the type with a French menu?

I have to admit I am surprised that there is something like British restaurants. I am aware of pub food, but I don't think I ever saw anywhere in this world a British restaurant. To be fair, I also didn't search for them. But restaurants from lots of nations and regions exist in many places. British restaurants - not so much.

Talks in forming coalition have yet to start – Pheu Thai leader
OneMoreFarang replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It seems to me that the voters stated clearly they don't want Prayut and they don't want Thaksin. -
Additionally to above: A long time ago there were different Windows versions per country or language. That is not the case anymore. It's all the same now. So it doesn't matter where you buy it. The language is up to you. You like you can buy it online or offline in Thailand and it will be the same as if you would buy it in the USA. And obviously don't download it from dubious sources including malware.

Thai woman escapes abusive mafia ex-boyfriend
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
She should have expected that the guy will be violent. And she should have expected that he won't like it if she (wants to) break up with him. Likely the above-described violence was not the first violence which happened. At the first sign of violence, she should have run away, far away. Obviously she didn't. And then it got worse. That's what bad guys do. That doesn't change the fact that he is still the criminal who did this to her. And he should be punished for that. She didn't deserve it. But maybe/probably things would have been better for her if she would have thought about possible consequences of her behavior. Like I wrote above: I hope she learned from this. And I hope other women learn from this as well. -
Thai woman escapes abusive mafia ex-boyfriend
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
I am not surprised to read a comment about victim blaming. I have to admit I have difficulties with that concept - at least in a situation like this. Did she think he is an accountant with a 9 to 5 job? Or did she know, or should have known, that he was/is a criminal, and probably a violent criminal? When a woman decides to have a mafia boyfriend, what does she expect? Love and a quiet life until retirement? I think she, like every one of us, is responsible for her decisions. If she is in a relationship with a mafia guy, then she should expect that he acts like a mafia guy. -
It depends on the box.

Losing a job, what's with the visa?
OneMoreFarang replied to grav's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It seems legally, after your employment ends, you have to give the work permit back (I guess to some labor administration office) and they will keep that book. -
Pouting land seller
OneMoreFarang replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Yes, probably not only in the USA. That was maybe 30 years ago and at that time buying things with cash, like a car, was still not unusual. The important part is that it seems many people get a lot more exited when they see a pile of cash compared to a number on a check or now app. Like: I want that! -
You mean it's like wanting to eat apples without eating apples. So, they paint a tomato to look like an apple and eat it, pretending it to be an apple. Yeah, right. That obviously explains it.

Maybe I am, maybe I am not. I am too independent to try to squeeze myself in a box. I guess by some definition most of us here are lone wolfs. Most forum members left their home country to live in an exotic country far away. Some of us had work lined up or existing friends over here. Or they moved together with friends. In my case I decided I want to live in Thailand. Nobody was waiting here, and nobody came with me. It was an adventure.

Pouting land seller
OneMoreFarang replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
That reminds me of a guy back in Europe some time ago. He visited people who wanted to sell their house. And he took a shoe box full of cash with him. Open the box: Do you want the cash? He was pretty successful doing that. -
I think it's somehow funny that something like "fake meat" exist at all. If people want to eat meat, fine. If they want to eat plants, fine. But why try to make plants look like meat? It doesn't make sense.

Drone Airshow to Take Place on Jomtien Beach This Weekend!
OneMoreFarang replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
I saw such a show once, by accident, in Bangkok over the river. It was like fireworks. But they you realize that it's impossible to do what they did with fireworks. If you have a chance to see it, I suggest go. Likely you will be impressed.
