Phuket’s Crime-Free Project Nabs Over 1,000 Foreigners for Visa Overstay

That's as may be, but it's turned up this odd collection of records. -
Phuket’s Crime-Free Project Nabs Over 1,000 Foreigners for Visa Overstay

Agreed, but what's it a database of? If it's an immigration database, somebody has taken the trouble to input details of a subjects death. Where did they get those details from? Medical records? And what point do you start from to retrieve these records? A list of names? Passport numbers? Where does that list come from? -
Phuket’s Crime-Free Project Nabs Over 1,000 Foreigners for Visa Overstay

I don't understand the obsession with Russians. People seem to think they're all draft dodgers and are on overstay, or will be soon. Why? The disparate nature of the datasets is revealing. There are deceased, those already gone, the disappeared, and the subjects of extension applications. But how did they build the list of suspected overstayers? That their queries returned 107 deceased suggests it wasn't from a very reliable source. Maybe they were just blindly putting in lists of foreigners they couldn't trace, and seeing what came up. There must be 1000s more if this is anything to go by. Utterly bizarre. Have they any clue at all who or what or where anybody is? No chance. -
Phuket’s Crime-Free Project Nabs Over 1,000 Foreigners for Visa Overstay

Yet anothe totally bs article. "Among them, 391 individuals were not staying at their reported accommodations, and 228 had already departed Thailand. Furthermore, 331 tourists had submitted requests to extend their visas, while 109 were reported to have passed away." This list totals 1059. 109 died already? Ye gods, the mind boggles. 228 already left? So what are they doing in the overstayers database? 331 are in the process of extending their visas, and 391 weren't staying where they said they were. That is meaningless in terms of overstay. Just how old and accurate is their data? So, out of this total, only 9 were singled out for prosecution based on overstay. So can we rewrite this hysterical headline to reflect that?- 96 replies

Wise v Deemoney
bradiston replied to poppysdad's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's the same old problem with every one of these. Unavailable in Thailand. But no doubt available if implemented in the UK. I tried them all as an alternative to Wise when Wise blocked my small online payment from Thailand to an Indian pharmacy in India. -

I've used Wise for many years also. I use finger print to login. No SMS required. -
Thailand's Election Commission Probes Pitha's ITV Shares

It's looking worse by the minute. I wouldn't trust PT an inch. The mooted alliance that excludes MFP but includes all the worst elements of Thai politics looks increasingly like a done deal. It ticks all the royal/military/establishment boxes and exposes the PT to be the stooges they really are. -

Are you really qualified to pass judgment? Sounds like gobbledygook to me. You say "from the article". Is that your source? The basis of your bar room barrister take? -
Thailand's Election Commission Probes Pitha's ITV Shares

https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand-election/general-election-2023/40027456 This links to a Thai judge's opinion on the legalities of the alleged shareholding. But in the circumstances, I think the EC will have to take in a number of perhaps overriding factors, eg Pita's popularity. They might find an expedient compromise is in everybody's interests. What shape that might take who can predict? Let's just hope for some common sense, and not get so technical as to back the Thai political system into a corner from which its practitioners might find it impossible to emerge with any sort of credible, functioning democratic credentials. -

But that's what I mean. He's leaving his political career in the hands of an establishment leaning, if not controlled, body. Why? Why take that chance? And why possibly betray/remove the wishes and dreams of millions of Thais in the process? If they rule him out, he's only himself to blame. -
The cops love 'em. Instant ID. And getting rid of them? Oh boy! My suggestion: "Fair cop guv" ☹️

I had the same reaction when I first read about it. Is it really possible he could have overlooked such a possibly damning holding? How? With all those surrounding him, and as you say the precedent of what happened to Thanatorn, remaining silent? -
Pattaya Transgender Person Pickpockets Russian Couple and Gets Arrested
bradiston replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I was robbed by an Irishman in Shepherd's Bush in West London after he greeted me with a bear hug, for no apparent reason, until I searched my back pocket for my only fiver. Gone! I knew he was Irish as he waltzed off down the road hurling abuse at me. Rob and rant. Now you don't get that on Beach Rd. -

How do you remove 2 necklaces with a hug AND pick a pocket (or two). Sounds like the Russians are learning from their Indian buddies. -
Following on from my attempted cover reduction and deductible increase. Neither is possible without reapplying. So that's that! Imagine, higher premiums and start the existing conditions exclusions all over again. I'm going to lie down.

Too right. It's not like Pattaya Nua which is wide enough for a turn right/u turn lane. It will be absolute chaos. As for laying cables down the middle of the road? How do they reach them without stopping the traffic in both directions? As somebody said, the traffic engineering department at city hall need riding out of town. They're a bloody liability. This project will bring Thepprasit to a grinding halt. Used to be a pretty decent road, too.
-
First the drains, now this disaster. Some brainless fool has totally stuffed Thepprasit. For instance, leaving Ratanakorn Market it's no longer possible to turn right. Anyone wanting to cross or turn right on Thepprasit has to drive all the way to the end of the stupefyingly pointless central reservation they've put in, almost the whole length of the road. So tailbacks from u turns will be enormous, and of course bring the usual driving hazards. Just an enormous waste of money, time and resources, and totally unnecessary. And the guy lost his life trying to negotiate the obstacle course these nuts have turned it into.

Just a note on the small savings to be made by reducing cover in my case. My 400k cover was taken out last year. So comparing it to this year's 200k cover will reflect this year's 200k premiums v last year's 400k premiums. As an aside, premiums for new applications do rise every year, I guess by 3%.
