Potassium Cyanide In 3 Tea Bags Found In Suspect’s Car: Academic
bradiston replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why does this "academic" insist on speaking sub judice? He's making statements which could seriously prejudice subsequent proceedings. Contempt of court. Next headline..."Top cop says looks like she did it", then "Judge agrees with top cop...Guilty". Never EVER get on the wrong side of the law here. You could end up on the wrong end of a rope. -
700,000 tonnes of fresh durian expected to be sent to China this year
bradiston replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The more they can export, the better. Just back from a trip to Trad/Chantaburi, where the big fruit warehouses all have Chinese lettering over Thai. There seems to be an enormous glut of durian. Maybe everybody's climbed on the bandwagon? And there seem to be 2 crops this year. Is that usual? -
Me please! I had 2 American guests staying in my house for 2 months. They paid me 50,000 THB. Multiply that by the population of the USA, minus the population of the USB, divided by the population of the USC, squared. Take the number you first thought of and multiply it by your age in months. Take away the combined salaries of TAT staff, and there you have it. Easy! 353,331 billion.

Thai Health Ministry launches annual Covid jab campaign
bradiston replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"The vaccines are now available through many hospitals and clinics across the country." My information tells me they're not. Not the bivalents and not here in Pattaya. Please enlighten me if I'm wrong. -
I liked them as much for answering the phone after just a few rings, in the early days, before RBS took over. The whole concept of the current account mortgage was a stroke of genius. I think it originated in Oz and Branson brought it over to the UK. No other bank will touch it. It's just too good a deal for the customer.

TMN cable showed the whole event live. Made good breakfast TV. I thought the madam very impressive. Cool, calm and well collected. The big boss cop seemed impressed too. Thanked her for her help. All very respectful and no strong arm amongst the Thais. Indians all sat on the floor looking pretty p'd off. 50k and a bust included. Money back? I should Koko. No doubt they'll haggle the fine down though.

I also had a One account with Virgin (RBS, NatWest). One of Branson's better brain children. Helped me pay off my mortgage really quickly. Kept it going for quite a few years in credit, for which they paid .35%, but it seems even that was too much for them, and they wrote to me earlier this year saying they would be closing it.

Yes, but you're talking retaining an account, not opening one. A Wise account gives you an account number, a UK sort code, a BIC, an IBAN, and a SWIFT code, and a City address, so what's the difference? I also use it to decide when to buy foreign currency. $, THB, PHP. Good rates, fairly good commission. Free $ transfers to $ accounts in the EU. And do any of your UK banks pay any inflation beating interest, or any at all, come to that? I guess not. Nor does Wise, but I know a few banks that do within the EU.

I think that last is nonsense. The DWP and Royal Mail have both accepted Wise as a bank for paying my pensions into. It has a sort code and an address in the City. Just as much as my previous bank, Virgin One, had. No high street presence. Just online. Used it for the last 8 years for my state pension. And what is a bank, in any case, according to them?

Selling a house
bradiston replied to bradiston's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
No. Technically, on paper, it's mine. Some Thais might view it as hers for convenience. It makes little difference. We're selling lot and house. I have a usufruct agreement with my daughter, which doesn't permit my selling it. But I have an agreement with her to sell, and POA. She will take the land price, and I the house price, but that's a matter between her and me. We will proceed according to Thai law, and to the satisfaction of both parties. -

In 15 years, I've never seen a wave over 3 ft high around Koh Mak. Sorry! -

Yes, I'll take another look. Seems you need to pick an agent from the many listed for the area you select. -
Where on line are the best sites for selling property? My 3 storey house is on Koh Mak in Trad province, an area not serviced by some agents, including some big ones. I've registered with Lazudi (pending), Bahtsold and fazwaz. DeeOne on Koh Chang no longer handles Koh Mak property.

Yes, but you no doubt opened your Revolut account using UK credentials. Can't do it using Thai ones. And once you're settled out here, it's no problem to open a Thai bank account and get a card. Not sure why the OP needs a UK bank account as nobody bothered to ask. I get my 2 UK pensions paid into my Wise account. From there it can go to my Philippines bank, or into my $ account. However, I've discovered there is a catch with Wise. Try paying into certain bank accounts for goods or services provided outside Thailand and you might find Wise will block the transaction and start doing a full KYC on you. I've asked for a full explanation considering I've transferred a lot of £s from the UK into my Wise account, with no questions asked. I've asked the UK financial ombudsman to seek a fuller explanation. So far, their response has been disheartening, along the lines of "they're under no legal obligation to tell you a blxxdy thing!".
