  1. Thanks! But on my way back to Pratamnak I scoured Dongtan Beach Rd and I reckon I'll settle for that. I checked out one resort. It had pretty much everything. Nice quiet peaceful atmosphere, great big pool, great big buffet restaurant, big sea view, a stone's throw from the beach, excellent reception, and nice well maintained gardens. Nearby restaurants and French bakery. Regular Song Taow. Plus, and this will enrage a number of readers, I mentioned my daughter was Thai and they said oh well in that case.......! Hahaha. Warning: OP going off topic...I once composed and sang a little ditty with a French lunatic I met in Soi Ngam Dupree back in the 80s, entitled "I wanna be Thai". That was it. That was the feeling then. Being Thai seemed the coolest thing to be. Thailand was the best place on earth. How happy we were. Then Putin had to spoil everything.
  2. I'm going to check out a resort down the south end. Will report back.
  3. Daimini is a man of many talents indeed. Has an office also in Dubai. Can transfer to most countries in most currencies. Opposite Maneerat Visa Service.
  4. It's worth taking into account though. I wouldn't want to upset the neighbours.
  5. I looked at a place, in the 2 way bit of Beach Rd, which would be real handy. About 25k THB for 15 nights. A lot more than you can get a decent room for further up, I'm sure. But coming from the UK and Europe, once a year, it might be great value. Appreciate people's comments.
  6. How about noise etc? The Sois off Beach Rd might have possibilities. But don't want beer bar environment. Maybe further down? I guess I should take a look. An apartment would be preferable but as someone has pointed out, generally frowned upon.
  7. I've got a close relative coming for 2 weeks in January 2025. Any tips on safe secure apartments or hotels? Budget not too big an issue.
  8. Why is there no freedom of movement in ASEAN? Why is it necessary to enter the country illegally? Can't they get passes? I thought the Cambodians all got them.
  9. So, a Myanmar couple who confessed. 14 tm30 violations. And 2 Burmese working at a car wash. That's utterly pathetic.. just jobs for the boys. Cracking down? And military personnel? All so the brass get their names in the papers.
  10. Is that "girly" in Thai pronunciation? Or an anglicised Thai word?
  11. And EU countries are on the list where pensions are not frozen.
  12. I think parliamentary committees operate separately to courts of law. In the UK, nobody is under any obligation to attend. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Select_committee_(United_Kingdom)
  13. Oh I get it. Bar Girl. Wow, never thought of that. I thought the technical English term was "hostess". And I didn't get it translated. Pooying/poochay. Maybe the first 2 words of Thai you learn. Can you read them in Thai though? And I never heard any Thai person use that description. Sopenni I used once when arguing in the Beer Keller on Sukhumvit Soi 7 I think it was, with freelancers who insisted they weren't on the game even though charging for it. Hookers, I guess we'd call them. They were extremely pissed at my use of the word too.
  14. Totally agree. They're a department of the Ministry of justice. If a parliamentary committee wants a representative from the Department of Corrections to attend to answer questions, surely they are duty bound to attend. The argument that there are other enquiries in motion is beside the point. The DoC should be made accountable at all times.
  15. Does that apply to both sexes then?
  16. No. It just seemed you were saying there were more in Thai than most languages.
  17. So there are several words. Just as in any language. What's your point?
  18. Not familiar with the phrase "your (you're) wearing the cap". And at 26 pages I'm not going to try and trace what it was I responding to. But in my experience, most people on this forum can't tell the difference between irony, lampoon, and satire for instance, and sarcasm. But I'm not sure what you're referring to.
  19. They don't record an address on entry. But I guess a TM 30 tied to a passport photograph, and then a match via....what? AI? Matching that blurry CCTV capture could be problematic. Anyway, for me the mystery remains unanswered.
  20. You mean those with brains and those without?
  21. Like on this forum, you mean!
  22. They come from wealthy families.
