UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud
bradiston replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
On what do you base your own calculations? Fear? You're dragging in immigration when it has absolutely nothing to do with the topic. At any available opportunity people here start banging on about immigration. They blame everything on immigrants. It's classic. Classic rubbish. -
UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud

The UK gov website is huge, and it was a long time ago? I thought you were talking contemporary activity. Anyway, my method works for me, no charges and I can hold the £ until the exchange rate is favourable. Wise usually has amongst the best rates. -

Preferential exchange rates? Really? -
I was going to suggest that too, but not sure if they have a one hour results service. There's one by the junction of Klang and 3rd also.

Or get it paid into your Wise sterling account. DWP have no problem doing that. -

Much appreciated! I read for 30 minutes including a lot of links, and quit. The stated purpose of PNR collection is for the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of terrorism and serious crime - drugs, trafficking, child sexual exploutation and the like. I don't think an OAP claiming to live in one place but actually living in another falls into that category. However, the data is there. But whether it would be legal for say the DWP to access it for checking on a pensioner is highly dubious. It's an EU based law, but the UK seems to have signed up to it. As have the US, Canada and Australia. So they are all sharing PNR, flight details, destination, luggage weight, check in times, ticket numbers and a ton of other data. Beyond that, who knows? When I asked the Philippines IO if the UK government could track my movements in and out of Philippines, she simply said it would be possible, but highly unlikely. So there you have it. YMMV as I always say. Or in Thai "Up to you!". -

That's not the answer I was looking for! I guess I'll have to do my own research. -

I find that quite surprising but I guess it's probably in their privacy policy. I'd like to see it quoted chapter and verse. -

A passport isn't what they would look at. You think they'd rely on that? Your entry and exit time and dates are recorded digitally every time you go through immigration. On my last trip to Philippines I asked the IO there upon leaving, if UK immigration could access my data on their system. She confirmed it but said it very rarely happens. So, safe to assume they can track you. Out of 500,000 OAPs living abroad, some will have notified HMRC or the DWP that they were leaving, in order to cancel tax returns or whatever, and maybe where they living thereafter. No idea of numbers. Others won't have bothered and either accept their pensions will be frozen if the DWP find out where they're living and it doesn't have an agreement, or it does. I guess just an exit from the UK as recorded at UK immigration would be enough to alert them. But I imagine it would be hugely time consuming trying to track possibly 100s of thousands of suspected non change of circumstances notifiers. Most benefit fraud in the UK is committed by Universal Credit applicants. Us OAPs probably pale into tiny insignificance compared. And if you do get caught, I think the only penalty would be to freeze your pension until you meet the requirements for the annual raise. This last item has been the subject of much heated discussion over the years. Some claim they, or a mate, had to pay back the excess payments. Others who claim they were incarcerated. Others that they were fined. And so it goes on. Information is thin on the ground. YMMV. -

They can't. Just one reason they're not having kids either. Kremlin has called the situation "catastrophic". Population is tanking. What a dump!

OAP is paid every 28 days. So a different day of the month every month. At least, that's my experience. -

Best way to fly Bangkok to Philippines?

Nothing wrong with that link. I just did a trial return BKK to CRK, about 9k THB. I flew CRK to BKK just a few days ago. Arrive at about 2200 so no bus to Pattaya. If you fly to MNL you can get the 24 hour point to point Genesis bus to SM Clark for AC from terminal 3. 420 PHP. -

Still sore? I went to a Swiss quack today off Thepprasit. He charged me 1100 THB for 2 nurses to syringe an ear with hydrogen peroxide. Fantastic. You obviously haven't a clue either. If they do, why don't you try one for one of your imagined ailments? Try Bob Martin for fleas. You seem to be itching to have a go. -

That has to be one of the most deeply racist comments I've ever read. But I'm going to leave it at that. It's already way off topic. -

Actors take roles offered to them. Only one of the cast of Lawrence of Arabia was an Arab. Laurence Olivier plays Othello, but you don't complain. Your history? What has this got to do with watching MOTD? And so many black footballers! Are they taking over? Our game? That we invented? Outrageous!
