1. not if he doesn't have insurance cover
2. yes , he will get done for dangerous driving causing death, same here , same outside. And yes, probably jail time.
1 if he doesn't have insurance cover he would be even deeper in the mire, but the victim(s) would be entitled to claim from the MIB, at least, in the UK.
2 the point being made was that here, he would quite possibly, or rather, most likely, not be done for anything with the right connections.

In any other country
1 his insurance pays the victim or victims family
2 he gets done for causing death by dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an RTA, etc etc, and properly banged up, fined, banned etc etc.
3 career destroyed, reputation destroyed, wife and kids gone.
It's not the same everywhere by any means. Thank God!

I don't get it. Thais fly in from all over the world. No test at point of departure required. Significant proportion test positive either on arrival or later on in quarantine.
So, many coming from high risk countries. What the hell is the difference? Foreigners come with a full set of docs showing they are Covid free, have insurance, expensive hotel booked, somewhere to stay thereafter, and have legitimate reason to enter thailand. Who do you think is a safer bet to arrive Covid free and remain so throughout quarantine? Unless of course the unfortunate foreigner catches it off an infected Thai.

Just as an aside, I submitted my renewal application on 2nd September at Trendy. They said about 4 weeks, and I got an email saying the application was sent to UK on 3rd. On 18th I got first an email saying it could take anything up to 8 more weeks to process, then an email saying my new passport was waiting for collection at Trendy. So, just over 2 weeks in the end, excluding appointment queue.

If you have been issues a new passport then you should have also received a paper requesting Thai Immigration Office to 'transfer' (put new stamps) for your existing permission to stay into your new passport.
The TM6 Arrival/Departure Card and TM30 Notification of Address should then be moved over into the new passport.
Suggest you keep the OLD and NEW passport rubberbanded together and present both when interacting with any Immigration Office official as the old passport number will stay in effect until you leave the country and cancel your current permission-to-stay.
If you have been issued a new passport number you may wish to also update other documents tied to the old (now expired) passport, such as Thai Bank Accounts.
Does anyone have a checklist of people to notify of new passport number? Banks I know about, driving licence (not really necessary I'm told) and any more?

Just search dara sakor airport on google maps and it shows the location of it.
Nothing to see. There are 2 photos of 2 extremely muddy fields, couple of skeketal buildings, up at what is labelled as Koh Khong airport, but I can't see anything at Dara Sakor Airport, though Google lists it. Sihanoukville has an international airport. But everything else is just a goat track. ????. All very strange.

Maps 5 years out of date? Seems odd with all their satellite imaging tech. Is there a date stamp anywhere? Your photos don't give any indication of the location. A half finished apparently abandoned airport terminal and control tower, a tourist police car and several odd bods hanging around. I guess Pompeo just has better intel!
I'm interested, as this report, published some weeks ago, got alarm bells ringing where I have a house, over in Trad province.

Can't see any signs of an airport on Google maps at Dara Sakor or thereabouts.

I need to check the marital status of an acquaintance in Thailand. Is there an online database I can search, or is it all down to local district offices?

two things they should be doing to create as a safe as possible environment for when tourists do return is to have an effective track and trace system in place (not the nonsense system they currently have) and effective testing taking place, there seems little interest in having either of these.
What is wrong with the Thaichana system?

Having "permanent residence" status, and owning or living in, a "permanent residence" are completely different.
However, doesn't It come back to the idea that the Thai authorities, despite all the forms and fiddle de dee that we have to fill in, appear to have absolutely no accurate figures on how many expats (meaning long stayers) there are in Thailand. This despite TM6 and 90 day reports, extension renewals and reentry permits etc etc. If they did know, they could calculate, even on a very rough basis, how much those expats were worth to the Thai economy. If there were just 100,000 spending as little as 300 THB a day, it's 30m THB a day. 1000 THB per day and you're looking at 100m - A DAY! And in many cases, year round. So what's not to like? 36,500,000,000 THB?
I rest my case.

My wife made me take this when I tested positive for Covid, and I have to say I felt better after taking it, not much better, but better, My symptoms weren't that bad anyway
Any other details about your infection? When, where, how? Were you just allowed to stay home, being treated by your wife?
-
So, because they're Thai, they aren't tested at point of departure. But how many could they have potentially infected in flight or at the airports?
I just don't get it. What's the point of testing some and not others?

I believe the assessment is made on square meterage
-
So it's quite possible to become infected by an untested returner if on the same flight, even after all the precautions you've had to take? It's just completely mad. The untested could infect the whole flight if later found to be positive. Ok so they're all headed for quarantine in any case, but so what?
-
So as not to drag the whole case back into the spotlight - I mean the justice system etc - they will be released and deported back to Myanmar shortly. Carpet raised, dust swept. Don't want another Red Bull.
-
One question that remains unanswered. If his alibis were any good, why did he flee? If he was innocent, why did he run? No faith in Thai justice? I should Coco.

dear conspiracy theorists, are you aware that the victim's statement was helping Red Bulls's best, not against him? Who should have a motive to get rid of him - or was he up to withdraw his statement? (Not saying that I think so)
Yeah, seems plausible. Become a witness for the prosecution and blow the lid off the ridiculous claims of his and the other guy's "evidence". And name names.

Yes it is strange no buses no trains to some nice areas/gateways all along that route? Do you suppose these minivan cartels had any thing to do with highjacking this route.
Could well be. There was never a rail link down here. Even getting to swampy needs careful planning, usually involving hopping off a bus at Lat Krabang and catching the airport link.
The minivans I have to say are much improved. No more tail gating at 110kph. But that was the norm for many years.
The route from Pattaya to U-Tapao is, I believe, completely stitched up by the taxis in Pattaya. 600 THB. No public transport. Not sure if that's changed.
Considering you can catch an overnight bus from Trad to Mae Sai and from Chantaburi to Nongkhai and many other far flung destinations, it's all very odd.
Trad has an airport, owned by Bangkok airways. The flights are usually fully booked. There was a sea route proposed linking Hua Hin, or Prachuap, Sattahip, Bang Bao on Koh Chang, Klong Yai, Koh Kong and Koh Rong. They, not sure who, did do a test run as far as Koh Chang some years ago but never came back. Seems like it's all stalled.

Evidently not. There is not even full size bus service from Pattaya (along Sukhumwit Hwy 3) to Sattahip. There used to be regular full size buses along that route with a bus station in Sattahip. Now it is only the songkows or the minivan <deleted>. So I don't go to Sattahip anymore.
There was an orange (second class) bus that ran down the old route from Ekamai to Trad via Pattaya and Rayong. It was the first bus out, left about 0430. Not sure if it still runs. I've caught it twice from there. Slept most of the way. 7 hours. But better than waiting around for 3 hours. Apart from that, from Pattaya to Trad, it's minivans, and change at Chantaburi. And only one operator behind Numchai on Sukhumvit.
Considering its the gateway for the Koh Chang archipelago, and the border crossing at Had Lek, it's odd to day the least. Trad's a nice town, and a beautiful province. Same goes for Chantaburi. 0 cases of Covid in Trad, 3 in Chantaburi back in March. Maybe that's the reason!

As long as phase 1 is done who cares about a train to Trat??
I do. I live there! We don't even have a bus service to Pattaya, only minivans. And what about the freight traffic to Cambodia and Vietnam, not to mention passengers? Since the Asia superhighway turns back into a goat track as soon as you cross the Cambodian border, a HSL would go down a treat straight through to HCM city. Fat chance I must say.

The OP did not mention where he is from. Not sure they are offering the expedited service at this time in the UK. I read they have huge backlog of applications the other day.
Yes I read 400,000. And I think I read that from here the fast track service has been suspended. I just can't fathom how broken the UK passport office has become. Even in these days.
I just renewed my NZ passport. Uploaded the completed application 3 days ago, photo etc. Got an email saying replacement passport on its way via express courier. Totally amazing! What's that? 5 day turn around?
UK - failed state?

Three foreigners among eight new Covid-19 cases in quarantine
in Thailand News

Seems many Thai soldiers returning from Sudan are infected. Every day, more arrive back. I guess it at least shows the net, or the quarantine, is catching them when back on Thai soil, along with all the others. So maybe there's something to be said for the current 14 day period.
