  1. I think you're confusing liabilities and assets. This isn't London.
  2. Well, that just re-enforces my argument. I've also calculated it's worth buying, but not using your figures. Why have a go at me? I'm just not expecting to see any appreciation on a 30 year old 1m THB studio apartment, after 10 years. However, if you want to make me an offer, I'll take any in the region of 1.5m, payable in 10 years. And your place is only worth what somebody's prepared to pay. 6.5m buys a very decent amount of brand new property. The market's awash.
  3. I'd assume seeing a 2 on 1 fight, the hapless foreigner figured hey, that's not right. Well, 2 on 2 didn't go any better for him either. Mess with a lady boy at your peril.
  4. You're doing the wrong calculations. Ok, let's say 1m to buy. 10 years later, maybe 500k to sell. So it's cost you 500k. Plus annual fees. 10 years rent @ 12k pm minimum, averaged out on your 6k. 1.44 million over 10 years in rent. You're down 940k. Moral. Don't look to getting all, or even any, of your money back. Living a decent life costs money, most of which you won't see back. But hey, that's life. Enjoy it while you can.
  5. Yes. I lived in a nice block on a small lane, not really a soi, between soi 4 and 5 in Pratamnak. Many Russian inhabitants. Never had a problem with any of them. One of the ladies in the management office was Russian and the agent was Russian. Nice people! Please don't make your minds up before getting acquainted. Not all Russians support or even like Putin. I meet a number in the spa I frequent. Again, all approachable and happy to chat, language permitting. But there again, I'm an inveterate "where are you from" annoying bxxxer!
  6. I live on the ground floor in a 30 year old small apartment block (just 6 storeys) in Pratamnak. Nice people, no rowdies, and no noise! Sound insulation means I don't even hear the rain falling. And being "2nd hand", shunned by Thais. So economical to buy. I call the architecture "Thai colonial".
  7. I was given the ok by WRLife to stay in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital for treatment for an infected cut on my arm. Probably a 100,000 THB bill. I declined. A daily visit for 3 days and an hour on an antibiotic drip would do me. And places to go, people to see! Plus 15,000 THB for self insure. Seems daft really. My premiums would have gone up by 3%, 300 THB per month. Nothing really. So I can't report on what would have been provided. But they won't cover you in Jomtien Pattaya Hospital.
  8. Staff, electric bills etc etc. But nobody has to stay open that late. I guess they could close any time they wanted. Only problem (yeah, only problem hoho) would be kicking out the clientele who don't want you to close. Why not scrap all opening times? Entirely up to you!
  9. I don't see anybody except police and girls in blue uniforms, and a few other disparate Thais. In the main article, there are a lot of maps and what have you, but not much else. What exactly were they discussing? Any minutes available?
  10. How about extending the policing hours to 4am, and beyond, while you're about it? 24/7? You might try shift work. Usually unsocial hours pay well. Could be attractive!
  11. Lazada has a big range of breads. I buy an almond flour based one. It's pricey, and tastes a bit weird, but that's keto for you, in a nutshell, some of which are also keto. It seems to last forever in the fridge. Wheat is wheat. 50% lower carb content? I wonder how they manage that.
  12. Much more likelihood of getting killed back home in Thailand. Plus the added disincentive of lousy wages and debt. Stay away as long as you can.
  13. Maybe he was the only one who claimed. How many say they weren't paid, and why?
  14. You're suggesting they reject all claims then?
  15. That's called being wise after the event. A silly argument. Supposing it was the result of a serious accident costing millions. Or cancer. Or whatever, heart bypass.
  16. No I haven't had cause to having not had any inpatient treatment. But it was a bit of a slap when I found out that optical is excluded - it's an add on - and cataract surgery is an OPD procedure which i don't have cover for in any case. I keep my policy going for major surgery/chronic illness etc. Almost everything else is excluded.
  17. Quite a mixed bag of reviews, but 76% are 5 star. I'm not trying to push the company, just taking a broad view. And yes, I am insured with them.
  18. Like the Russians from Siberia and the East? Or even from Moscow. They all know the visa rules here. Scandinavians too, and many already do a 6/6 split. TAT tries to claim successes in tourist numbers, but it's got nothing to do with them. People come and go as they please. If a tourist lands in swampy and buys a cup of coffee en route to wherever, they'll announce a stratospheric rise in visits. It's all complete cobblers. A non topic. A dead rubber. Tourism? Meaningless word.
  19. It only occurred to me as I was typing my comment that Thailand offers 90 day visa free stays to Russians, but not Ukrainians, and now no doubt, to Israelis but not Palestinians. I'm not sure how many are, or were, seeking permanent refuge elsewhere in the world, but as the stats I quote suggest, over 6 million have found it. And I hope more will do so.
  20. I've met Ukrainians here. Not Palestinians, as far as I know, but Lebanese. There are approximately 6 million Palestinians worldwide outside Palestine. But it's true, apparently 0 in Thailand. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_diaspora What makes me think that, is it might just be preferable to lie on a beach here with your family safe and sound than in the basement of a bombed out block of flats in Gaza or Odessa waiting for the next salvo to land overhead with little if any chance of survival, paying for somebody else's stupidity.
  21. Give Gazans and Palestinians 90 day visas. And Ukrainians. They need them more than anyone I can think of.
  22. Building 2 immense terminals, one at each end, and linking them by road and rail? Is that really going to save any time? Unload, load, unload, load. Imagine the manpower required! The fuel costs. Will it be unionized to meet international standards? Health and safety? Andaman Islands and all western seaboard totally ruined. Tourism collapses. Thailand bankrupt. You read it here first.
  23. Reservoir dog The dog of war Sunak rides again Sunak saves the day
