  1. Despite the opposition being voiced here, it has to be a positive step forward for the 7 groups to be consulted at all. The actual groups aren't named here so it's hard to know who is being represented. But, monitoring the wording of the questionnaires will be interesting. The inclusion of a question as to whether the whole charter should be up for revision is also radical. Many conservative politicians and the upper eschelons of Thai society regard Section 1 as untouchable, and some, Section 2 also. Power to the People!
  2. Plea to Pattaya News... The mayor's name is transliterated as Poramet Ngampichet, not the incredibly annoying spelling you, and you alone, use. You should know the Thai language rules for words ending in 's'. The 's' becomes a 't'. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022_Pattaya_City_mayoral_election#:~:text=Elected Mayor&text=Out of 38%2C320 registerred voters,Pattaya party with 14%2C349 votes. Irrelevant info: there were only 38,320 registered voters at the last mayoral elections. I suppose because the vast majority of Pattaya's floating population of 98,000 roughly are from up country.
  3. What I meant by "selling at a profit but still make a loss" was, although you might sell for more than you paid, all the other costs can wipe out that "profit". Anyway, you seem to have had a remarkable run. I have a large house I can't sell here and a large house I can't sell in Philippines. Land is a different proposition as an investment. I'm just not a builder, and so fail dismally when it comes to construction.
  4. Ever mistaken a Dane for a Spaniard? Northern and Southern Europe. Or an Irishman for a Welshman? Both celtic origins. The Khmer and the Tai both originated in southern China and drifted south, so it's just tribal genetics probably. Fair skin is totally over valued in certain sections of society. Asian women spend probably trillions of $ on skin bleachers. Why? Fashion probably. Who knows they aren't breeding white skinned babies.
  5. Well Digger me old Cobber, meet yer Cousin Clytus.
  6. Can't you look it up for yourself instead of screeching Bueller, Bueller?
  7. Why are you dredging up old rants? But it's easy enough to find out: https://ourworldindata.org/mortality-risk-covid https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7947934/ https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/ https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1201971221007931 More?
  8. Set up on Bangkok Bank account, with the help of the counter staff.
  9. Ah, didn't see that coming. Now, where's that banjo?
  10. Krungthai has yet to implement facial recog. Been waiting now 3 months. Government bank.
  11. They have access from 3rd Road.
  12. Dongtan 2 way for bikes 24 hrs, one way for cars 4am to 10pm, as now.
  13. Off topic, but I never use PTT as it's always chockers, whereas 50m up the road the Shell is always deserted. I guess the PTT one gets the government reduction. Either way, exiting and getting back to Jomtien or Pratamnak is nerve wracking.
  14. Totally agree. I got chased by a copper's asdistant down Beach Rd once coming from na klua and doing the pedeX chicane just there by the dolphin. Copper was creaming it. He'd kitted out this old boy with a pair of ill fitting bib boots and a brown jacket so he looked like a crumpled copper, and got him to do the leg work hauling in the miscreants. Thais escaped free of charge I believe.
  15. It is a problem, maybe not in the execution, but in the intent. Cars can't do the same manoeuvres. I too use the cut across to get to Lotus and the yewy to get into Ratanakorn. Luckily I turn left when I come out, otherwise it's down almost to the Thappraya lights and back to get the right they've blocked. Some vehicles don't have the lock if there's cars parked across the road. The tail back becomes a joke. Then there's the non functioning lights at Soi 8, so it's a free for all, but with people doing yewies in both directions, bikes and cars appearing out of nowhere. And the 2 gas stations where you can't get in going west, and coming out, the bikes use the pedestrian crossing to get the right. And all this was planned? Nuts!
  16. They'd have to make them one way too, like between Beach Rd and 2nd Rd, alternately as they already get clogged. And sois connecting buakhao and 3rd. I hope they've thought this through. 🤣🤣🤣
  17. They did. Motorbikes just did a swerve, cars turned left and then tried to u-turn back. Result? Complete chaos. Just like on Thepprasit right now.
  18. He went to a private hospital - how? - had a plaster stuck to his ear, and then fled. I can make this stuff up too. So what's the difference? He evaded the law. Was never breathalysed nor did he provide a urine sample. In other words, the cops let him go without being tested for anything. Typical hiso behaviour. And cops reaction. Bent as. And is that his mangled wreck in the photo? Red Bull Mk II but no casualties so who cares? He goes home, has 2 large brandies, so any test is invalidated.
  19. The one-way lotus. I like that.
  20. I've yet to see any details of the contractor, the specification, length of time, cost, contact numbers listed anywhere near these ridiculous endless works. Usually all on display on billboards. Now, 2nd Rd up again, Thepprasit a total death trap, completely clogged up, 3rd Rd no better than a goat track in places. What a cheek awarding this guy anything except a sxxxk in the mouth.
  21. Update. I was eventually admitted as it turned out more complicated than I thought. Estimated length of stay was 5 to 7 days, @ 30 to 35k per night. WRLife didn't take long to approve it. It took a while for the paperwork to get to them. Room excellent, 10th floor, bay view, lovely staff, decent TV channels, and food much improved after I complained initially owing to crimes committed in the name of the hapless "American Breakfast". There's a 7/11 on the ground floor, a Starbucks, S & P and a few other places to hang out. I'm free to wander about, wheelchair service available 24/7. So hats off! WR came through on my first serious claim. Luckily not for too serious a problem. Should be gone in a day or two. Course, YMMV, but I'm happy with it so far.
  22. No idea. It came up in an annual checkup at Memorial. I could look it up if I was home but I'm not. I think Lifecare offer it as an optional extra. Or as a standalone.
  23. Excellent and congratulations. But I would imagine either one, or both of you, are "in the business" so to speak, and not mere punters. 23 properties in 13 years, some rentals...this is not a hobby, right? Whatever, you are good at it. Knowing where, when and what to buy and at what price, and reselling at a profit. That takes a lot of expertise, experience and business savvy, and detailed market knowledge. So you're far from the average Jo. But some details are missing. You can sell at a profit but still make a loss overall. Maintenance costs, running costs, legal fees, CGT if it exists here, whatever other taxes there might be, condo costs, advertising and marketing etc etc. I'm not sure how straightforward it all is.
