  1. I remember what happened when I discovered Firefox around the year 2000. Now that was great and of course it is a lot better now, but I couldn't believe my eyes. IE would be still plodding along with 20th century technology without FF's appearance, so I remain a loyal fan. I miss some addons on Chrome and dislike the fact that when I imort bookmarks from FF, I get the name of the bookmarks folders PLUS an empty grey square next to it, meaning my modest number of bookmarks folders runs off the screen. I also dislike having to avoid downloading the bloody thing unintentionally all the time, I uninstalled Chrome twice this year.

  2. Nope. Not more than 600. I guess.

    what per day?

my last bill (apr15-may15) was 20,747 Baht = 691.50 Baht/day. estimated aircon share last month billing ~13,000 Baht.

Yes, I am very impressed with your financial status. I'm sure we all are.

Judging by the fact that the OP obviously won't be leaving the AC on 24 hours a day (otherwise he wouldn't be asking about costs) and the fact that we spend a maximum of ฿1200.- for cooling two badly insulated rooms a month, sometimes as little as ฿800.-. And that includes PC, fans, fridge, freezer and TV. We also pay the electricity for a relatives house, they have no AC and come to sit here every afternoon.

and i am very impressed and totally flabbergasted that you can afford to pay for the electricity of your relatives. keep up the good job and make merit for your rebirth!

Good old Naam we can always depend on you for the appropriate put down .

  3. while we are talking about growing your own,has anybody got a bay leaf tree, the dried crap I last bought was black with no taste.

we had a cracker in the uk.we have had a lot of success with all our fruit tree's from kok-krut,the jack-fruit are exclusively to us.our dog water's them every morning.so I will try there.

Pretty sure they won't grow here, but you can try.

  4. No it doesn't. A fish pool another few metres deeper does, but it empties pretty quickly. And no we haven't, a generator will have to be part of the set up. I never lived in a country where I needed a borehole so obviously I am talking out of my borehole.

  5. Thanks. I was thinking that a submersible pump was the answer? We have enough rain for one crop of rice usually but I was thinking about a follow on leguminous crop as soil improver and ground cover, followed by something or another. We already have a vegetable garden that is about 4 meters below the surrounding ground, and this is where I was thinking about putting the hole.

  6. I have read through this thread. I am wondering why nobody around here (between buriram and Lamplaimat) has boreholes in the fields. Our domestic water certainly comes from a borehole.

I am told that on the other side of the road, in the rice fields, boreholes don't work, although no one can explain why they don't work. Outside of the rainy season, things get very dry, no rivers nearby, the reservoir gets emptied and you have to sleep beside the pumps so they don't get nicked.

What reason could there be that 'they don't work, nobody do'? Some time in August/September I will be going into this seriously but although I am acquainted with the Thai mentality I hesitate to spend a lot of money on something 'that don't work'. Thanks

  7. Whatever it is, is undergoing anaerobic putrefication probably due to watering the lawn. Try getting a litre of EM and applying that to get some aerobic bacteria in the top soil. That may well reduce the gaseous emission.

Please tell me what EM is and does, sounds interesting

  9. What goes around comes around ?

Over the years I've known many Thais who wanted to visit Switzerland because of the association with the King but I've never met a Thai who has been there or could afford to go.

Have a friend who arrived back yesterday and she didn't like it as everything was closed and she couldn't go shopping and not much to do. some sort of public holidays in Switzerland for a few days.
Petty, off topic comment. Yes, they respect public holidays and close on Sundays. Plenty of things to that don't cost money.
  10. I had unfortunate experiences with these bags, I found out that most of them were spent mushroom compost and therefore worthless. I raised tomatoes in one bag for ages, transplanting them into normal garden soil worked miracles (until the dreaded wilt took hold). At present I am experimenting with a mixture of coconut husks, well matured cow poo, home made compost (tomato plants burnt) and yes, some of this bagged compost to fill the cracks. I may follow my own advice and cultivate in pots (in the shade) or even go for hydroponics, there is a good thread on the farming forum.

  11. Just a thought: I once solved a lawn problem by telling the owner to sharpen the lawn mower blades and raise the cutting height. If the blades don't cut but rip off the grass, you have the impression that the lawn is yellowish.

Many people want a golf lawn, which is tremendously expensive to maintain. Like your lawn by the way!

  12. I think the OP is worried about what may happen after the guy has moved out. Maybe he isn't registered in Buriram and I think that as tenant the OP should have reported him to the landlord. There are all sorts of ways the unwanted tenant can make things difficult. I really do think that he should go to the police station, find someone that speaks English, and explain his problem, the officer will then explain his problems to you and money will change hands.

  13. Why bother asking? If anything happens, the Farang pays, that's all you need to know.

Not in my case, full class A insurance off-course, so let the insurance deal with it.

I get way more room in my truck than I did in my ex Honda City.

I have had sedan cars for 12 years in Thailand, and would get on average 5 accident a year, but was in 99% of the cases not at fault.

For the past 5 years I drive a pickup, and haven't had a single accident since biggrin.png

I drove a battered old pickup for a year before I got a family car. It seemed to get me through traffic n Bangkokthan the nice new car I have now. They know you don't want to scratch your new car.

By the way, driving 100Km a day over allsorts of roads for two years now, no accident YET.

  14. First thoughts on reading title were, 'yeah, go get some of that moody W2II gold back off them Swiss folk'. How wrong was I! whistling.gif

Oh not another one! The Swiss accepted a lot more Jews than the Americans.... blah, blah, blah... any more misinformed preconceptions?

Thanks Captain Obvious... America is across an ocean and Switzerland is directly next-door to Germany. What else should we expect?

And taking in more Jews than America during WWII somehow absolves Switzerland of being the private bank of the Nazis and all the wealth they stole from the various peoples they enslaved?

Below contempt. The USA did very well and protected many Nazis after the war. Do some reading.
