  1. Moving ....

    1. Be prepared to pay a tax on everything (new and old) you ship into Thailand via a logistics company.

    2. Refuse to give up your passport to any logistic agent. Get a certified copy from your embassy. The Thai Customs has to recognize it (I think) Check with your embassy.

    3. Examine carefully ALL the logistic services you agree to pay for and question everything as to what that charge means.

When I first moved to Thailand I gave my passport to the local logistics agent clearing my personal effects through customs. They charged me 15,000 Baht for a service they did not provide. I refused to pay for it. They refused to return my passport. I won the 60 day battle at the end but it was a real learning curve in my welcome to Thailand.

  2. 1. I do not think a Thai political faction would desecrate a shrine. Thais take shrines and temples very seriously.

    2. The suspected bomber may have been wearing a wig and fake glasses. (Speculation) but logical assumption.

    3. If this was an international job, the handler of the bomber is most likely in Malaysia with accomplices in southern Thailand.

    4. If this was a real know-how operation the bomber was probably on a red-eye or early morning flight out of the country.

    5. To my knowledge, I may be wrong, but pipe bombs, TNT and C-4 don't make fire balls. They are flash explosives. Burning expanding gas makes fireballs.

    6. Sorry to disagree but I think explosives always leave a residue. The real question is what the primary explosive was. The police forensic teams should have been looking for sample traces hours after the incident.

If this is the start of a terror campaign then I hope the Thai government requests help from outside ... people with some know-how in terrorist investigations.

  3. This is a very popular propaganda technique aimed at the US presidential election and probably Bernie Sanders in particular.

First, look at the title .... "Misery Index"

Second, an economy can't be happy or sad.

Third, the stats are based only on unemployment and inflation (hardly a complete picture of an economy) and unemployment figures can be shamefully manipulated

Fourth, take a look at the countries omitted from the "Misery Index" This is selective manipulation of statistics to give the desired outcome.

  4. WoW! ... Let's see now ... How many taxes we can impose on one product.

    Import tax 200-400%

    VAT

    Sin Tax

Carrying Tax (for carrying the product away from the store)

Storage Tax (for storing the product in the store and at the consumer's home)

Consumption Tax (for actually consuming the product)

Disposal Tax (for the disposal of the product packaging)

... any other ideas on a new tax for a product?

Admittedly I was inspired by the imagination of the EU parliament

  5. Right-on Adhoc .... How much money you want? I guess you know this topic is generally known as a money spinner.

    No .. first

    1. What kind of car does the head honcho drive?

    2. How many freebie and/ salaried people do you have on staff?

    3. What is the villa address?

    4. What do you do besides a website and reports? Do you provide shelter and assistance?

Noticed on the website ... The International Partners are ... reports from other NGOs.

Regional Partners are (cut and paste)

Forum-Asia, Internet and Social Media in Asia: Battleground for Freedom of Expression (2012)

Forum-Asia, AIPP and IWGIA, ASEAN Indigenous Peoples (2010)

  6. English, as we know it today is comprised of six or seven different European languages and it could be said it is inherently an international language.

English as a language is not a nationality, or a culture but simply a common means of communication in multilingual societies or trading groups. It has also become the international language of medical, technical and trade publications.

English is the official language of ASEAN and Thailand is a founding member. It's time for Thailand to get up to speed with their education and forget about all the "never been colonized" excuses.
