  1. Keep it Simple ... First spend some time walking the sidewalks with vendors on both sides.

Notice how nobody seemingly knows or gives a <deleted> you are there? Don't see you? Could care less? Stops dead in front of you while you're walking or crosses in front of you by .5 meter requiring you to stop for them? Totally zoned out looking at something in a shop window? Wandering right to left at the pace of a buffalo while texting or talking? This is foot traffic for God's sake.

It's the same on the street ... even if you were in an Indian style psychedelic pick-up truck with bells, whistles and flashing lights.

  2. There are a lot of NGO scams in Cambodia especially when it comes to kids ... easy money. And when I see NGO posters saying don't give money to the poor, give it to us and then see that the NGO HQ is a nice villa, and the head honcho drives the famous black Lexus SUV and has a staff of people working free ... well ... it destroys my faith in NGOs.

  3. When will Thailand come to the 20th century when it concerns the railroad? Yes. 20th Century.

A city center (Pia Thai) train stop that looks like a boat ramp

Guys with little flags stopping pedestrians and motorbikes from crossing

Hand operated crossing signal and barriers

Just another example of what corruption, cronyism, nepotism and incompetence does to a country's infrastructure.

  4. Never got a bar girl here. Got that out of my system when I was a kid in the military.... and got burned a few times.

Soi Cowboy is a great place to take visiting friends and relatives. It makes them feel like they are in some Hollywood movie .. "Bangkok Dangerous" ... right? Quite harmless.

Paris has it's cabarets. Amsterdam and Den Haag have their .... Er ... Uh ... Sex Clubs and of course Amsterdam's famous Red Light District which is a huge tourist attraction.

Personally I think Soi Cowboy is a good tourist attraction ... and if one needs to .... Er ... Uh ... buy sex ... they can do that anywhere in the world.

  5. Experts, however, point out that the vast majority of Salafis are peace-loving.

Experts, however, point out that the vast majority of Germans were peace-loving. (During the rise of Nazism)

Experts of Islam divide Salafis into three groups: the traditional brand of "quietists" who eschew politics; those who become politicized; and the hardcore worshippers who follow the call of jihad.

Experts of Nazism divide Nazis into three groups: the traditional brand of "quietists" who eschew politics; those who become politicized; and the hardcore Nazis who follow the call of the Nazi Party.

The take-away - Inform the public …. Teach history as something real, not some abstract from the past … Be proactive or suffer the consequences.

  6. Can someone explain, with authority, not guessing (although guesses are welcome), how supplies and personnel get through and out of Turkey?

Surely Turkey, with assistance if needed, could put an end to the logistics train and thereby strangle ISIS.

No No No ... .... not a topic to be discussed.

Does it really take an expert to figure it out?

Always was and always will be my primary reason for not wanting Turkey in the EU.

  7. "Yet we see this from the US embassy which makes it look like the disease is widespread in Thailand which it is not."
Where do you get that it makes it look widespread?

Same with the SARS (promoted pandemic). I am glad the information is public ... it should be taken seriously ... but rationally.

My first visit to Bangkok was during the SARS scare. Got 2 nights, 3 days, 4-star hotel and airfare for 10,000 Baht. I didn't contract SARS.
