  1. The rich and powerful want to stay rich and powerful, so they place their chosen people in positions of power, and they need guns, lots of guns, who better than the General and his Brother who have both amassed personal fortunes that also must not and will not be questioned.

Like many undeveloped countries, The Army Generals and Police Chiefs are unusually wealthy, everybody knows you cannot amass that amount of wealth on Government Salaries, everybody knows they are corrupt, yet it's ignored , because the rich and powerful need these very people to stay rich and powerful, ultimately they control the guns.

  2. Prayut had the backing of the peaceful Thai majority the first time around in May last year gauging by the biggest protests in Thai history with the PTP ex supporters and opponents joining forces to oust the undemocratic (yet elected) government as well as the polls showing PTP support before the coup at all time lows as well as Junta approval ratings after the coup. Not a single bullet or M79 fired by the 7%'ere after the coup and peace rained supreme in the streets of Bangkok. All facts (PTP's greatest enemy) that undeniably show the Junta was brought in on the back of the majorities wishes. The majority had enough and the PTP knew it which is why they allowed the elections to fail. They would have lost them.

Another 2 years though? I understand his heart is in the right place and he with the backing of the majority would hate to see the 7% minority reds attacking and killing again. The situation is very fluid as well with him bowing to the will of the people that demand a referendum. I understand he has to listen to the majorities wishes (previous govt didn't do that) and for that he is admirable, but again he needs to justify this.

I for one would hate elections to be rushed again only to witness democracy for 1 day in every 4 years. I would hate to see the 7% red radical fundamentalists threatening the farmers with violence again. I would hate to see democracy bypassed everyday in Thailand post elections like we witnessed before. I would hate to see 28 million baht an hour lost on a scheme that was aimed at farmers who finished up protesting against the govt that implemented it.

Pray doesn't, the majority doesn't and at 28 million baht an hour one can be assured the tax payer doesn't either.

If Prayut wants two more years one can be assured he certainly wants reform to take hold so democratically elected govt's can not perform undemocratically again thus making coups redundant. I give him one thing...He is doing himself out of a job!

The naivety of some seemingly intelligent people here baffles me.

The reasons for the current political situation in Thailand cannot be discussed, it's against the law, and this forum is no exception.

  3. Is this the cue for opinion polls to show the people absolutely want him to stay on ?

Not much of a deal with the protect me from criticism comment which is just the same as saying DON'T. The PM seems well entrenched in his own little world.

If you actually took the time to read the whole article it clearly states that a referendum would need to be held and it would be up to the people to decide, if you see something wrong with that then state what it is based on what was actually said and not from your imagination

Personally I see nothing wrong with the article or its implications - the fact remains that Thailand is in serious need of reform and I always said less than 2 years to achieve is falling years short of the huge task as there is so much that needs fixed

And his wealth and his brothers wealth, will that be investigated. of course not, this Military Government is in power at this time for a very good reason, and its got nothing to do with the countries well being , it will keep the elite in their power bases when the transition takes place, this has nothing to do with anything else, it's all about power, money and keeping it all for the very few that now have it, to keep it you need guns, who better to have at the helm that the leader of the Army or his Brother, how they came by their massive fortunes is not for questioning, at this moment in Thailands history, they are needed to keep the poor, poor and the rich, rich.

I don't know why so many Farangs argue amongst themselves on here, Red this Yellow that, as Farang we have and have never had, no say whatsoever, even the Thai people have no say now.

All I know is this, to a poor man it don't matter who runs this country, he'll still be poor, it's the rich and powerful that position their people into positions that ensure they stay rich and powerful.

Everybody know the poor are always being screwed over by the rich. Always have, always will. ( Platoon)

  4. Kon Tai are under immense pressure to stuff it, to stay within preordained bounds.

Once behind the wheel---woooohooo. They become unglued.

There could be some truth in this... A society which in general is light hearted and non confrontational becomes quite the opposite; aggressive and impolite when driving - something changes / switches when behind the wheel... (or getting into an elevator !).

Whereas Road Rage and aggressive driving is unheard of in Western countries..............blink.png

  5. Spent the night in banglamung jail cell ... All for drink driving .54 thank u. I still see the same police man who threatned to deport me and he seems a little embarassed when he looks at me.

For drink driving you should have been Jailed for 18 Months then deported with a no come back policy for at least 20 years.

    Disgusting,

Yes and likewise I propose 2 years followed by deportation for speeding, 1 year for jay walking, illegal turns? 1 to 3, that should curb that dangerous activity. No helmet, maybe 6 months and deportation after all if you can't be a model citizen you should go back to your own country. There's more of course but you get the idea.

    Ha Ha

And you think Farangs drink driving is a big problem in Thiland. ha ha ha .

Yes nearly every Farang I know who drinks and has a motor drinks and drives on a regular basis, but of course I've only been here since 1990, so I'll bow down to your superior knowledge of how things really are in Thailand. giggle.gif

And it would be a problem if a drunk Farang smashed into you or a loved one in his Fortuner wouldn't it ?

You are obviously new to Thailand with your Myopic view that Thai = Bad and Farang = Good.

  6. "I believe in Lord Buddha's teaching that everything is impermanent. Things are born and then they are gone. So are the passports."

No, really, I am not bothered about the passports.

For a man with such an ego and who wants to come home so badly, travelling the world as a Montenegrin is a lesson in humility none of his ill-gotten wealth can help with.

Yeah, I bet you'd hate to be a Billionaire.

How many Farangs drink and drive in Thailand, I know loads that do, but if they knew they would get Jail and deportation, I wonder how many would stop doing it ?

  8. Spent the night in banglamung jail cell with a naked russian who had made weapons with wire and the policeman saw it and didnt give a shit. The policeman kept asking for my passport which was at home and he was generally being a <deleted>my wife paid a bribe the next day and i was off to court and had to pay another bribe to get my passport back. All for drink driving .54 thank u. I still see the same police man who threatned to deport me and he seems a little embarassed when he looks at me.

    Disgusting,

  9. Is it just me but from about the start of the Greek Islands eastwards across to the Pacific Ocean ferry boats are overloaded unsafe and kill thousands every year.

    It is perfectly normal.

If it was happening 50 years ago and still happening now then my statement is true. Normal.

No it only happens in Thailand, it's part of the culture, read ThaiVisa more, you'll get the message.

  10. That a huge percentage of deaths are people on motorcycles, if the UK had the same amount of motorcycles in the population as Thailand had, do you honestly in your wildest Thai Bashing dreams think the UK figures would

So highlighting the appalling death toll on Thai roads is Thai bashing is it? Have you ever considered it may be lamenting the terrible and mainly preventable waste of life?

You point out how many motorcyclists there are in Thailand. The UK bought down the death toll amongst motorcyclists by bringing in a helmet law, training and enforcement of laws. Maybe Thailand could learn from that if they are serious about reducing the carnage.

Yes indeed highlighting the appalling death toll is Thai bashing if you are a Thai apologist and you do not have a life.

So a Thai Basher has a life and a Thai apologist has no life, haha, so you're not only a Thai basher but a Thai Apologist basher also. well done.

  11. Good job to the boat captain. No one drowned.

    Good job or good luck?

In your myopic world if it's a Thai it's just luck, if it was a Farang you would commend him and want to award him a knighthood for saving so many lives with his skillful actions.

    You are so ThaiVisa.

  12. Used to get a lot of people asking for money in London back in the 80's in the UK, funnily enough it was usually aggressive alcoholic Scotsmen who were the worst, maybe they were English trying to sound Scottish I don't know, Scottish accents were always more intimidating for some reason, but they used to virtually demand money with menaces from some people, of course if they picked on the wrong person they could get a shock, but shouting in someones face did the trick for them a lot of the time.

I'd just give a Roundhouse Kick ( Non Connecting ) and put an end to the confrontation, then get all the, sorry mate, only joking, no offence meant pal, just looking for some spare change ya ken.

Thai Visa, member, ex------- Sorry can't tell you. if I did.. I'd have to......you know the rest. thumbsup.gif

  13. Time you lightened up, try smiling once a while.

This is ThaiVisa mate, no smiling allowed here and judging by your own posts you moan and whinge with the best of em.

Me, I'm a Thai Apologist, according to many here.

It's all a game, the more they moan, the more I'll counter, really boring forum if everyone just slagged off everything and everyone in Thailand, you have to have opposition, if I agreed all the time with all the moaning ThaiVisa would be pointless to me, so when people say they have free speech and can moan, yes they do, and so do I, so if I ask why are they in Thailand when they critisise nearly every aspect of living here, they label me a Thai apologist and are allowed the freedom to do so.

I have lived here a long time, I guess I was young enough to adapt when Thailand was really different in 1990, I was here through all the changes and was only 35 when I came here, I was able to adapt, now for instance if I was 70 and I decided to move here from a developed country, my experience would be totally different maybe, would I find the driving ok, no I wouldn't, but I've been doing it for 25 years, I was able to adapt, sorry if that bothers some people , it's just a fact, if you don't adapt you're gonna have a totally different experience in Thailand than I have had, If I didn't like it here, I'd leave, but I'm not 60 yet, nearly but not yet, now maybe if I was 70 - 80 I may feel stuck here even though I'm not really having the good time I thought I would when I chose to move here.

I mean c'mon, would you prefer a Forum where everyone agreed on every subject.

I await the responses from the happy folk of this Forum. smile.png <---------- Smile
