  1. 124 countries are signatories. https://asp.icc-cpi.int/states-parties Their holday choices are somewhat limited. There are several countries that are not signatories to the International Criminal Court (ICC). This includes countries that have not signed the Rome Statute, as well as those that have signed but not ratified it. Some notable examples include: United States: The U.S. signed the Rome Statute in 2000 but later unsigned it in 2002. China: China has neither signed nor ratified the Rome Statute. Russia: Russia signed the Rome Statute in 2000 but never ratified it. In 2016, it withdrew its signature. India: India has neither signed nor ratified the Rome Statute. Israel: Israel signed the Rome Statute in 2000 but never ratified it. Iran: Iran has neither signed nor ratified the Rome Statute. Turkey: Turkey has neither signed nor ratified the Rome Statute. Ukraine: Ukraine signed the Rome Statute in 2000 but has not yet ratified it.
  2. Netanyhau already has. I just asked Gemini what the obligations are to the signatories ; While the International Criminal Court (ICC) has jurisdiction over individuals accused of genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity, and aggression, its authority is primarily over states that are parties to the Rome Statute (signatories). If a finding is made against the head of state of a non-signatory country, the obligations of signatory states are somewhat complex and nuanced: 1. Cooperation with the ICC: Arrest and Surrender: If the accused head of state enters the territory of a signatory state, they are obligated to arrest and surrender the individual to the ICC, regardless of their official status. This is a key principle of the Rome Statute, ensuring that no one is above the law. 2. Enforcement of Arrest Warrants: International Pressure: Signatory states are expected to exert diplomatic pressure on the non-signatory country to comply with the ICC's arrest warrant and surrender the accused. This could involve sanctions, travel bans, or other measures. 3. Non-Cooperation with the Accused: Freezing Assets: Signatory states are expected to freeze any assets the accused might have within their jurisdiction, preventing them from accessing resources that could hinder the ICC's proceedings. Travel Restrictions: Signatories should implement travel restrictions to prevent the accused from entering their territory. 4. Support for the ICC's Work: Political and Financial Support: Signatory states should provide political and financial support to the ICC, helping to ensure it has the resources and legitimacy to carry out its mandate effectively. Promoting Ratification: Signatories should encourage non-signatory states to join the Rome Statute, expanding the ICC's reach and strengthening the international legal framework against impunity. Challenges and Limitations: Non-Signatory States: The ICC has no direct jurisdiction over non-signatory states, and their cooperation is often voluntary. This can make it difficult to enforce arrest warrants and bring accused individuals to justice. Political Considerations: In some cases, geopolitical factors and national interests can make it difficult for signatory states to fully comply with their obligations to the ICC. Overall: While the obligations of signatory states are clear in theory, the reality of enforcing ICC decisions against the head of state of a non-signatory country can be challenging. However, the collective efforts of signatory states can exert significant pressure on non-complying states and contribute to the fight against impunity for international crimes.
  3. The Israel bit clipped out for conciseness we all know Hamas are criminals and have been roundly condemend by many. A truly historic ruling against a western ally.
  4. A very fair verdict laying blame on both sides. With voluminous evidence. Hamas evil and now the leaders of Israel evil - let's hope nobody here will try and deflect and distort these two salient facts. The charges against Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant include “causing extermination, causing starvation as a method of war, including the denial of humanitarian relief supplies, deliberately targeting civilians in conflict,” Mr Khan said.
  5. Great news he's like Putin now a pariah amongst the great and the good. Netanhayu war criminal has a nice ring to it and let's go after his assets. What very joy it is to be alive on this glorious day.Go after their monies now and hit them where it hurts.
  6. Not really unless in most places where you go for residence which has a lot of finacial hoops and language to go through then you can only spend 180 days out of a year before you are out of options. A lot of Spanish Brit expat voters voted for Brexit and found themeslves having to sell up and go home.
  7. Well said my totally free London freedom pass , getting 6% interest on 6 month fixed rates , true competition in supermarkets whilst the costs have risen they are nothing like the eye watering prices in Thai ones. Safe roads and cars and well lit motorways without u-turns and considerate drivers. Clean air and amazing weather from spring to autumn (usually). English language spoken everywhere (a big one that) , a vibrant and uniqe live music scene and festivals. World class, theatre, arenas and orchestras. World class football loved by the world. Friendly and considerate neighbours, the rule of law , democratic elections and fredom of assembly and speech. And that's just off the top of my head. Skint ageing moaners will always have a jaundiced view of the world where they feel hard done by. It was ever thus !
  8. That would explain the Leicester City's boss tragic crash. Oh wait a moment..... Personally having only ever gone up in a helicopter once I would never do it again.
  9. You're right of course, but anger eats you up and if you haven't go an immediate solution wears you out in the end. The west trolled Putin for decades though and in the end paranoid from covid, isloated in his lair he hatched his plan to get revenge. And here we are. World mods -if indeed the world is a forum should have banned the western trolling. Victoria Nuland wouldn't have lasted long in that case.
  10. Can I post a propaganda video made by Ukrainian film producer who is fighting in Ukraine which is in English ?
  11. Whisper it quietly but Russia is tapped out in invading and holding onto the four oblasts that it considers theirs. He may be evil and paranoid but he's not stupid he won't touch a NATO country and he's wise not to do so. I see it like the 6 counties of Northern Ireland after the Irish War of Independence natural justice would have suggested that the whole of Ireland should have been freed from British control. But in the end the nationalists had to settle for the realpolitik of succession for peace and a majority of Unionists who didn't want that and were prepared to fight. Even if Ukraine did get this territory back do folks not realize that there are numerically huge numbers of pro-Russians who won't go quietly. Awful things would no doubt happen mostly unremarked in the western media lest they pollute the binary good vs evil story. Ukraine has fought valiantly and established their claim to true nationhood based on blood sacrifice but they are nearing the point of collapse. Let those provinces go , establish peace and a chastened Russia will no doubt have to accept this new reality. But the now problem is we have helped forged the new “Axis-of-Evil” for a Russia that was historically wary of China - the difference between this and WW2 is Germany didn’t have the land and resources for a “Greater Germany'' so saw military expansionism as being essential to achieve that. Of resources and land Russia has huge amounts and we have rammed them into a friendship, without boundaries with the world’ largest manufacturing powerhouse.
  12. I looked that up my hunch is right naval vessels may be facing an extinction level horizon particuarly if it's hypersonic misiles and drone swarms they are facing. The weapons testing lab that is as sadly the current plight of Ukraine is recalibraring the effectivness of weapons like no other in the modern age. And that's another reason the US loves it - they've never had so much in-theatre intel from a near peer adversary. https://archive.ph/AcFrV
  13. Why would they when Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are already allies with Russia? There’s no extra influence to be gained. Russia already took Crimea and the world barely did anything. Threw some minor sanctions and that was it. They probably thought that they could easily steamroll to Kyiv, and then the world wouldn’t do anything again because it’s too late. Even if they want to put some distance between them and Russia which is the direction of travel seeing what has happned in Ukraine only a total madman would try and diverge any further. These domino theories are always trundled out as to why they need to be stopped here but are seldom borne out by history. It also doesn’t border any NATO country making it very difficult for the U.S to give them aid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_Security_Treaty_Organization
  14. Looks like Putin shills have infiltrated the BBC. I don't think that lowering the draft age is going to open up some giant fountain of manpower. In reality the number of undrafted military-age males that age who haven't either 1.already volunteered 2. fled the country or aren't 3. working in some essential position that would exclude them from the draft anyway is pretty small. If you're out of men against a much bigger army in an attritional war you have basically lost unless other armies come to your aid and if the do there's your WW3. One that Biden has been studiously and wisely to my mind in some respect being trying to avoid. A new mobilisation law aimed at addressing this came into force on Saturday. Under the new rules, the age that people can be conscripted into the war has been lowered from 27 to 25 in an effort to boost recruit numbers. The flood of volunteers Ukraine saw following Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022 has now dried up. Most of those who wanted to fight are either dead, injured or still stuck at the front waiting to be relieved by new recruits. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crgy4gkqkddo
  15. My favourite contradiction of this war and there are many is - "Ukraine needs to join NATO so that article 5 applies and Russia will not dare attack it then ... but if Russia wins in Ukraine they won't stop and will attack NATO next".
  16. This is what people don't get.....money is ultimately "made up".Physical resources are not. Russia has every resource it would ever need. While other countries still lack food and energy independence. The only thing Russia wants from China is money and some sanctioned tech that the west helped China build at their expense .....on the other hand China needs energy/food/resources. There is nothing Russia needs from the world, its the other way around the world needs Russia's resources and the more you push Russia into China's vassallage the more powerful their alliance becomes. Democratic, liberal values aren't a given of successfull empires, indeed at their zenith they may even be an agent their downfall.
  17. They are scoring some good hits on Russia's navy and to a degree are highlighting the vulnerability of large slow defence objects in the age of drones and missiles.Whole classes of what seemed to be vital kit may go the way of the dinosaurs.
  18. And those two have major US military presences on their soil. I could have a more detailed debate re Chamberlain and alternative history - but it would probably be deleted so I'll leave it here https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/9/10/infographic-us-military-presence-around-the-world-interactive Like the US bases, the countries with the most number of US troops include Japan with 53,700, Germany with 33,900 and South Korea with 26,400.
  19. I'm in the UK who in your scenario will have to pay for an accept a lot of the risk for the solutioin you propose. We've had 2 world wars start in Europe already let's not have a third. Most Asian countries shrug and go not our gig folks , it's our old colonsiers having a fraticidal war again. And whilst we're at it we will have a piece of those cheap assets diverted away from western markets. We are sanctioning ourselves and fuelling the further growth of China.Which I'm sure our friend Transam doesn't want.
  20. Trump's latest line is that NATO countries will need to go to 3% of GDP for defence and not include any monies that are allocated to Ukraine if he is to stay in NATO. That alone would be a huge cost to Europeans something that most voters are blissfully unaware of. Defence spending is an incredibly wasteful use of a nation's capital , Russia included unless you go on a total war footing - which Russia has done. I have read somewhere will try and find a link that it is 10x more wasteful than investment in civilian tech - most middle and western Europeans want butter before guns. Here in the Uk - we're bust infrastucture crumbling all over the place.
  21. Starting to see a pivot in the info wars positing the line if Ukraine loses then it will cost our economies much more which is turning truth on it's head. https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/may/18/if-putin-wins-in-ukraine-the-british-economy-will-be-in-the-firing-line
  22. Have you got an approved credible source to back up that claim ! They are always looking for material and finacial support , they have war bonds. I'm sure that many here will want to risk their own money to help with the fight. https://www.usubc.org/site/recent-news/war-bonds--invest-to-support-ukraine
