  1. A letter is not required for Canadians as the Embassy stamps the request to transfer in your old passport. Just did my transfer at Jomtien, no problems.

Well that amounts to the same thing since the embassy is certifying that they issued the passport. I doubt Canadians are a special class of extension applicants.

I was being helpful for fellow Canadians. You are being too sensitive.

  2. No response?

He just lost his departure card and not his passport?

In that case he just goes to immigration and asks for a new departure card, fill out and get the arrival stamp for the original entry.

Not really a "transfer" but a new issue.

He might be asked to show a police report about the loss.

    But probably not.

Thanks, but my transfer question was for me. I recently got a new passport. I am debating whether to transfer retirement extension over to new passport soon, or to wait until I do my retirement extension on 5th April. Ubonjoe has said it can be done at the same time. Its just that I don't want to run the risk of confusing immigration.

  3. I just renewed my Canadian passport in Bangkok. It takes approx 15 business days. The people at the Canadian Embassy are wonderful. I did not need to show my legal status in Thailand, and used the simplified form for Canadians outside of Canada. There is a photo shop on Sala daeng at the back of the building. Just go out the back and turn right. Its on the left-hand side next to a 7 eleven, before you reach Silom.

  4. In Loei only good for 1 month, so best to ask your local office, they all make up their own rules.

I have read that about Loei. But they are one of the few offices that have that requirement.

    1 month also in Jomtien.

Is that from personal experience or is it just what you heard from somebody. I think Jomtien uses the written rule.

I believe it was from someone posting here. Maybe someone could verify on their next visit? My friend got an instruction sheet from them, but does not specify length of time.

  5. Greetings from a fellow Canadian, who got a new passport about a year ago. Examine your old passport. On the "Observations" page near the front, there should be a stamp from the Cdn. govt. stating that you now have a new passport No. xxxxxxxx, and requesting that your stamp be transferred. That obviates the need for a letter.

Thank you. I will be picking up my new passport in Bangkok in 2 weeks, so I will check for this.

    • Yes, as long as you apply before your current 30 day stay expires you will get a 30 day extension.
    • FYI, you can apply a week or so early and don't need to wait until the last day. The extension will start from the end of the current stay regardless of how early you apply.

Last week at Jomtien, my friend, who has a tourist visa, applied for a 30 day extension. He was told he was too early and told to come back not more than 3 days early.

  6. Fuji on soi buakow (klang end) near the entrance of New Plaza. Research the embassy's specs and show them to the photographer. Remember, no smiling allowed and white background.

Thanks. Just to confirm, have you used them yourself for Canadian passport photos?
