  1. Will wait for more clarification and details before I book after November 1. Fully vaccinated 1: Still need COE? 2: Still need to pre pay in advance 7 day hotel, let's say in Pattaya. SHA hotel? Not quarantined in hotel but have to sleep there at night (bed checks!). Can one have a guest stay in the hotel? Does Hotel check guests for COVID? 3: Still need negative PCR tests to get on air plane or get through Bangkok airport even if vaccinated? 4: Still need PCR tests in hotel? The Thai COE site says cost up to 100 $ USD each! 5: Still need more international flights available. Taiwan is not allowing transfer or connecting flights through Taiwan until January. I bunch all my flight miles on EVA from LAX. Not a deal breaker as there are flights connecting from LAX through Japan (ANA for example premium economy will likely be my choice) 6: Will mandatory COVID insurance cover costs of getting dragged off to a hospital 14 day miserable quarantine if you test positive? I read that it does not cover those costs since you are in general not being treated, you are not sick, you are just being quarantined.
  2. I was told that even the mandatory tourist COVID insurance will NOT pay for the hospital quarantine if one is dragged off and put in there. Has anybody gone through the hospital quarantine and then gotten reimbursed or tried to use the COVID insurance and found it was or was not accepted or direct billed?
  3. I ask a question and instead of a simple response you feel the need to be sarcastic and back handed.
  4. How many of the 30 connected people had been vaccinated? I have no doubts that the more people you test, the more positives you will find, and many if not most of them had or have little or no symptoms.
  5. Somebody that is uber in charge may push this through to construction, despite the shaky history of the thing. I would not trust the structure after being open to the elements for so many years. Salt water air, rain, and corrsion issues. Elevator shafts flooded with water? Basement flooded with water? Animals, bird droppings by the ton? How can this structure be solid at this point in time? It is so butt ugly and ruins the skyline.
  6. Around to some extent yes. But large scale use, and then long term analysis of the results, say one or two or more years after application not done yet.
  7. Good god a nightly bed check! Haven't had that since I was at US Air Force Officer Training School back in 1982! We had lights out too. I do recall a few times having a flashlight on under the covers while doing some late night studying for the test in the morning! And they would now and then walk the drug sniffing dogs through the corridors. And amazingly enough, a handful of candidates got caught with pot in their rooms, despite all the advance warnings about what not to bring or do. Not to mention of course you are on an Air Force Base!
  8. Final details still TBD. My summation as best I can tell as of today. If fully vaccinated, then after November 1: 1: Still need COE? I can believe that as it may be a way to verify in advance one is vaccinated or not. Still some uncertainty on what proof they will accept. The typical USA CDC white vaccination card i just got is so easily faked. Has no control numbers, no stamps, etc. USA basically has no centralized database. Some states have some online things, but many don't. 2: Will airlines or arriving in BKK airport still require 72 prior negative PCR test? Can be a bit awkward when traveling around the USA and going coast to coast prior to departing from LAX. 3: Still need to prepay and show proof of 7 days in a SHA hotel? Hate that as lessons learned over the years in Thailand it is risky to pay in advance. I hear Agoda bookings are more reliable and cancelation or changes are possible or easier, but I have never booked in advance on all my 15 trips so I can't testify to changes. 4: PCR tests at hotel? How many? I heard 2. If so, who pays and when? COE site suggest up to $100 USD per test! Jesus! I would have thought the mandatory COVID insurance policy would cover that/ Anybody tried that? 5: Still need COVID insurance? 6: Still have limited airline choices. Taiwan is not allowing transit or connecting flights through Taiwan until January. To me the real danger or risk is if you test positive, falsely or otherwise. You get dragged off to a 14 day hospital quarantine. not comfortable, not a ASQ hotel level type of placet. And you have to pay Your insurance doesn't pay for it, as you were not treated for anything. That lady on Phuket had a story about it. If that is still true and could happen, yech. Curiously I have not heard of any more stories from foroeign travelers over in Thailand that tested positive and what they then went through
  9. Just read the book "The millionaire next door" and you will see that the majority of millionaires just don't spend money on things that other people think they should be buying. You will find they manage their money well. They don't abuse credit cards. They pay their bills and don't pay interest on over due things The ymay buy better cars than some or most people, but few spend on Rolls Royces and maseratis! They tend to make modest or reasonable investments that pay dividends or interest. They live within their means and over time, that has paid off. I am pretty well off and made it to the finish line. I have been to Thailand 15 times. I don't stay in fleabag hotels. But i don't bother with Dusit Royal or whatever. Hotels similar to Flipper lodge or Flipper Hotel class or some decent guest houses were fine with me. I take the buses to and from the airport to Pattaya or places in Bangkok. Taxis at night if I arrved late. I travel light with just one carry on and an air con bus from BKK to Pattaya, either Bell bus or the other bus is fine with me. Heck, I think they are safer than a taxi. for less than a 2 hour ride, what's the problem? Sitting up in a bus you get to look out the window. Sure you could book a helicopter ride from BKK to some places in Pattaya. That would be fun. I have been in helos, having been in the USAF so there would not be a lot of novelty in that, although if my buddy and I travel there, we may look into that and split the cost. It would be pretty cool to give that a go.
  10. They can try. Many tourists, even those with lots of wealther do not spend much money. I am quite well off, but when I go to Thailand I do not shop or buy anything. My needs are modest. The big malls are OK for a walk through now and then, but I don't fly half way around the world to try and wade through fake rolex shops. I go to Thailand for the people, some fun nightlife now and then. Some bars have live bands such as that one at the beginning of walking street that usually had issaan music. I like a decently priced hotel with a good pool for lounging and swimming, all the food choices from around the world, daily foot massages and occasional oil or Thai massages. A night or two out playing pool with some friends. I enjoy the Thai movies now and then maybe on a date or just some really hot afternoon where being inside is desirable. The Thai movies that have English sub titles I find helps me learn some more Thai a little bit. Traveling to different parts of the country where there are clean beach waters to swim in. Thai Temples and some meditation. Some of the natural parks like Nong Nooch, Khorat zoo, I loved the old Dusit zoo that used to be in Bangkok. It was like an oasis with that lake and some greenerie. I certainly love the fact it is not to hard to hire a "tour guide" while there to show you around, maybe she has a motor bike, etc. Love the warm weather. I like golf. Frankly, besides not having any legit casinos and some poker rooms or even some occasional slot machine play, Thailand has most of what I like to do in the USA anyway, but at a lower cost. If Thailand wants to discourage people such as me from going there, well so be it. Not much I can do about their policies. I don't know what the Thai officials mean by spend more. Spend more on what? I see no need to pay 2000 baht a night in a hotel when I can stay in a fine condo for 15,000 baht a month for 90 days. That has all that I need.. or want. I don't see that I cost Thailand anything. I pay my share. I tip more than the average person for services such as the laundry gals, housekeeping, restaurants, etc. i stay or eat in Thai places as much as possible and never bother with corporate places such as the Hard Rock hotel. I go to a country to do country things there, not to bring along everything from home. Other people travel differently and to each their own
  11. But entertainment is part of liesure. If one wanted to just sleep and read a book or watch TV, there is no need to travel to a place
  12. He would expect to be able to get a balance for the same reason he expects to be able to withdraw money. The systems know somehow if there is enough money in the account to allow for the withdrawal. I point out that even here in the USA some ATMs in some places will NOT display my balance on inquiry. why? I have no idea. It is just something I have seen now and then. Sometimes it does not allow the inquiry, sometimes it does not print the balance on the receipt. Other times it does.
  13. I know that. It is all totally unverifiable. As I said, some US States have some online thngs that can be checked, but most US States do not. The whole schema both in the USA and in Thailand is fundamentally flawed.
  14. So what is the current AHS plan for Pattaya after November 1? If one is vaccinated: 1: Still need a COE? 2: Still must book and stay in some AHS hotel for 7 days? 3: Some PCR tests required?? I heard 2 maybe? Paid in advance or on the spot? 4: Normal stuff still needed such as COVID insurance, whatever curfew or limits are in place, etc 5: Will airlines or Bangkok airport officials require negative COVID test within 72 hours of flying?
  15. Only once. On my third trip I arrived at BKK at like 2 AM so I had to take a taxi down to Pattaya as no buses at night. The driver left the airport and about 30 minutes later pulled off to some dark, hardly lit gas station. He went inside. After a while he came out, put gas in the car and off we went. Apparently they don't even have enough spare cash to keep enough gas in the car and they need to get a passenger to fill up. It was just a bit unnerving to be sitting there alone in an unlit gas station, no other customers around... In Pattaya, 15 trips.... Often walking back at 3 am on second road or any of the little Sois. Only issue is ladyboys on motor bikes will literally make a u turn, hop off their bike and grope you, hoping and assuming you are drunk and that they can find a wallet or a watch. Not drunk, just enjoying walking. Catch a late night cheeseburger at one of those little buger stands all over town.
  16. This is what I just got here in Florida. Note the pharmacy also gave me a reciept that had some additional details on it. Some states have some online things, but most do not. and there is no centralized Federal database. As I recall, my old Yellow shot card had nothing particularly official on it either except for initials and dates, Tetanus, Diptheria, and all those things I got when in the Air Force.
  17. Not trying to assume the worst, but I have read about many stories of foreigners losing their houses after altercatons with Thais, ex wives, ex wife family members, etc. Seems kind of hard to believe the Thai armed burlger broke in with 300,000 baht on him. But maybe just a translation issue and 300,000 baht is involved somehow.
  18. As others said clean and check all connections. Then, check for electrical drain or short. Maybe a bulb somewhere is shorted, some sneak short can suck out 1 or 2 amps of current. God forbid something worse in some wiring harness. Hard to isolate. If you like to fiddle, get a clip on amp meter. And see what if anything is leaving the battery. I had a 2 amp solid drain on my buick I could not isolate. I pulled all the fuses one by one, the relays, etc. I ended up installing a cutoff switch. When I parked the car for any length of time, I just turned the switch and completely isolated the battery. But newer cars often tend to NOT like having the battery totally disconnected. It upsets the clocks, chips, and other parts of the electronic systems and you often then have to restore things, re set electronic locks or whatever else.
  19. Yes. It is pretty weak. I also got another piece of paper that had more details such as the pharmacy name and location, my full name, a few details about the vaccine itself, etc. I photographed, scanned, made copies of the two together. Note there is a bar code, not a QR code, which I assume contains the information on the piece of paer from the Pharmacy. If these things are not accepted, well, that would be a problem as there is nothing else. I guess they could call the pharmacy but that is not likely and certainly not possible after closing hours.
  20. Fork over the money for an Elite Visa. If under 50 you can pay to stay. Currently 600,000 baht for 5 years, with some possibility of the 6th year depending on if one is stamped the right way at the end from some reports. You tpically get the Elite Visa upon arrival at the airport, so not sure how it could work if one is already in the country. It seems that you could just go to the airport and meet up with the Elite folks?
  21. Oh my. what a mess. I hope this doesn't come down to the swiss guy being kicked out of his house, the wife taking posession, etc.
  22. there seems to be lots of things you don't get. I was elated because I thought the Thai people had finally broken the chain of military coups and dictatorships dating back through modern history.
  23. I might consider Canda because I tend to like their mentality and the people in general are not very spoiled or demanding.
  24. Yep. They tried to gouge and steer business to certain places that paid who knows how much to be "qualified" to receive that business. Just a goat rope from day 1.
