  1. Used to go away from home for a few hours, return, and find all sorts of new posts and threads in different sub-forums.

Maybe it's just my imagination but sure does seem quiet in here.  Quite a few said they were going to abandon ship after the tie up between TV and The Nation.

    Anybody here?  Hello, Hello!

  2. Out of all the places we go up here in Korat, nicest, most comfortable table/chairs are these.

Owner said he got them at one of those wood furniture shops in the front of a HomePro up here.  Well made, sturdy, very comfortable, chairs swivel so no dragging around to get in and out.  14,000 Baht a set, these in photo are well over 4 years old now, still look great, except for 1 at the far end that takes some afternoon sun; he's having it refinished.    Good luck.

  3. Yep.  Used to have my training boys run small team ingress drills at 0200, in the spirit of old Dicky Marcinko's Red Cell exercises circa 1980s.  They would hit the fence, which set off an alarm, then they would haul ass quick and dirty into the interior zone to the sensitive command/control buildings.  We could track progress on various CCTV in the C2 cell, but they had the initiative and moved fast, so security forces play catch up.

I often use the Sukhumvit and Suk Soi 11 stores.  I prefer the former over the latter.  I lived in Phuket before and to be honest found the branch in Bangtao much better than both here.  I use them only for items I can't get elsewhere.  I find them not too bad for quite a lot of things that you might want to pick up from there that you could get elsewhere, sometimes cheaper.  But anything that you'd consider specialist tends to be outrageously expensive.  Saw a bag of organic spinach the one time - 900 baht!!!!!!

I also use them for niche items I can't get up where I live.  Although on this trip, I did pick up some commonly available items but I was there, and the price looked about the same to me so....why not.

Did get a chuckle when I saw a 6-pack of Corona Extra for 777 Baht.   Over $22 USD for a six pack of Corona?  LOL.  I'll stick with limes and San Miguel Light.

They've been doing that with the Phuket Gazette for years now.

It is interesting that Phuket Gazette did not incorporate The Nation into its logo, and they are listed as a link resource on The Nation's homepage, same as ThaiVisa is now.   Does that suggest the terms of Phuket G's deal with The Nation are different to that of ThaiVisa?  Did Phuket G. refuse to sell out all the way?

On the other hand, ThaiVisa has already incorporated The Nation into its logo.  That was fast.  My take-away there is this relationship benefits ThaiVisa far more than it does The Nation.

Be interesting to see what happens next.

  6. One would think increased filtering/censorship would have to influence the TVF media team to tone it down, and by extension, result in fewer virtual food fights between TVF members with polar opposite social/ political world views.   If there's any truth to the casual observation of increased mod activity the past month, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think it was intentional in the run up to inking this deal.

At any rate, both camps stand behind their convictions and respective world views, or so they say.  The notion of having them published in an additional, broader venue, ought to be a dream come true.  Not a nightmare that sends them running for the hills of anonymity and self-censorship.

Socially and politically liberal members and other free spirits may be confronted with the uncomfortable reminder that Thailand is sooo not an exotic bubble of edgy, social progressiveness in the midst of religious, cultural and often heavy-handed political conservatism in this part of the world.

  7. Thanks all for the replies.  I went to the one on Cheang Wattana Rd (Laksi) again, It's good enough for me, but next trip, I'll try the one in Thonglor.

I like Villa as, one poster mentioned, it has quite a few Mexican type items.  The price....right, well, the price is the price.  I also have to drive 3 1/2 hours one-way to BKK, so I tend to buy multiples of each item.  My check bin today was a personal record for grocery shopping in Thailand.  :shock1:

Off topic note but on the way home, stopped in the Robinson's/Tops in Saraburi on the AH2 - been meaning to do that for 4 years!  They had Kerry's Irish Butter, unsalted and salted, 115 Baht.  Never seen it anywhere in Thailand that I can recall.  FYI if you like Kerry's.

  8. Is there substantial difference between the various Villa Markets in BKK?  I've been to one on Suk (years ago) and one in Laksi recently.  Are they all pretty much equal, carrying the same things?  I suppose size of the shop is a factor.  Thanks for your opinion/input.

maybe the Thais in the photo had just read some of the racist comments about themselves and the Thai women, who are their mothers, wives and daughters.

I hope the nation do something to stop the racist garbage that is so much a part of this forum.

Either that or maybe some of the Inspire content.

Caring words from a bloke called Filthy Phil.

Newspapers are bleeding readership all over the world. They are last century.

And if you do a quick search you will also find that thaivisa has also dropped off massively since Geoorge off loaded it to the Inspire "group" despite the claims.

i doubt either will still be here in five years.

You've developed quite a bit of knowledge and cynicism since joining all the way back on 1st of March 2017.  Welcome (back?) to the Forum.

Good luck finding a police station that will accept the report. Most will not have a clue about what it is for.

Although the form states you can report to the police if there not an immigration office in the area they consider that to mean within the province. Which gives them a reason not to accept it.

UJ: Do I have it right on TM30 submission?  Form, housebook and landlord Thai ID copy?

It is all at the whim of the officer asking. I have my own thoughts about what happened yesterday, thoughts which I have not expressed on this forum. The official website Immigration Bureau website is nothing more than a repository of misleading information. Take as much paperwork and copies as you can and they will be almost bound to ask for something you do not have, something about which the official website makes no mention. You say your landlord lives in Pattaya but you did not say where you live. Are you going to Korat immigration regarding your extension?

Yes, Korat.  They down in Patts.  I've got to do the TM28 which sounds like form + passport copy+rental agreement.  From landlord side, TM30 form+ID and housebook copy..... the Power of Attorney was a new one on me but makes sense but means I won't be attempting this today.  Been trying the Thai Immi site since last night and this morning, it's not responding.  "Isitdown" says it's down as well.

You can also report to the police. At the bottom of (part one) the TM 30 is a receipt which can be completed by the police and returned to you so you have proof that you reported.

Since you've been through this with Korat, for the TM30, what else is required from the house owner?  Thai ID copy, house book, etc?

  13. Bought a new Toyota Fortuner here, presume assembled in Rayong.  Drove it around for 2 years then went on holiday to the US and drove a new Dodge Durango SUV for 1 month.  It was a tight ride, just looked and felt solid.  Returned Thailand, driving the Tuna first time was like trundling down the road in an empty aluminum soda can.

  14. "In 2012 Ford Thailand Manufacturing (FTM) was established in Rayong province to reinforce the strategic role of Thailand as a volume production and export hub in the region and underscore Ford’s long-term commitment to Thailand. FTM is a state-of-the-art passenger car facility, where the Focus, Fiesta and EcoSport are built for sale in the domestic market and export across the region. "

  15. Can't ever remember being upgraded off a discounted Eco class ticket.

I typically fly business now but one trip in Premium Eco on Cathay Pacific, they upgraded me to Biz HKG to LAX.  Didn't want to abandon the wife, so I said no thanks.  The CX lady returned to us 5 minutes later and said no problem, upgraded both of us.   Nice!

Edit: No, was not a CX Frequent Flier member.  Was crediting miles to my Qatar Airways account.
