There is a small shop unit in Kad Suan Kaew Department Store which seems to do a reasonable job.

Legally a foreigner cannot get loan in his/her name, without work permit. Had same problem in Chiang Mai and had to pay full amount in cash in the end.

Since Peter left it has never been the same, mind you it needed a face lift.

It doesn't sound too far off base. It is an easy place to live - safe, cheap (not like it used to be but mai pen arai), good food, stable government, generally nice folks, lots of fun distractions. As for Prayuth, I've been here for 9 or 10 Prime Ministers and 2 military coups and Prayuth seems OK. Sure, sure you can scream "junta! junta!" but really, things are a whole lot better than the Red Shirt terror or, a couple of years later, the standoff between the Reds and Yellows. And honestly, it does not affect our ex-pat lives, does it. No, it doesn't.
I've been here over 20 years to and this is a lot of rubbish, doesn't effect ex-pats,? must live in the middle of nowhere and in a cocoon. The poll is also a lot of rubbish, guess all holiday makers who have not got a clue.

The is a horse riding school very close to their location, maybe from there.

Are you quite sure WHT does not apply (VAT shouldn't)?
From the page I linked to earlier "Remittances made to overseas suppliers may also incur a WHT deduction."
Our OP is an overseas supplier of a service.
Normally WHT does not apply but there are always complications with some things Thai. Will depend upon how the contract is set up and where. As they say been there, done that but.......
A couple of times I have been asked for a copy of my 'Tax' card which fortunately I have.

VAT is 7% with holding tax is 3%. If you are receiving monies from abroad then it does not apply and if you are paying an account from Thailand to abroad it also does not apply.

Luckily the safety system did work, hence not hitting the ground.

No such thing as Unpreventable, rubbish, always preventable, somewhere someone messed up. You are dealing with the largest wild animal in the world not your domestic cat. Elephants do not belong in shows of zoos.

Full rigor mortis had set in really that quick, something very off here.

Even if they do not like it the hotel has a duty of care and should be insured, in insurance terms for claims it is not classed as a natural disaster. Ask for details of their insurance company and see what happens. Very few policies cover a vehicle for a 100% loss, that is nothing unusual. There is an insurance guide detailing the percentage of payout depending upon the depth of water etc. i.e. was if fully submerged?

With a simple answer to your question is YES especially if you live out of town. A nice 2 bed bungalow for 5,000 Baht/month Utilities 1,500 Baht excluding TV. Some of the assumptions mentioned previously look like guesses to me.

Make sure you are covered by comprehensive insurance, very difficult to get, most only cover third party.

Since HSBC closed their offices in Bangkok my friend has nothing but problems with them having to deal with either Hong Kong or the UK. Not worth the time.

Opened bank accounts with both Bangkok Bang and Kasikorn Bank, all that was needed was my passport. Nothing else.

Actually, I believe he is staying at the Phuping Palace on Doi Suthep, his winter residence.
Don't think so, his entourage traveled in the wrong direction last night, more like the airport route.

Nope I was one of half a dozen people in there, and more came as I left.

Visited G4T this afternoon and found it open sort of, apparently they are short staffed but expect to be back to normal after the 12th, what a surprise. They are opening in the afternoon around 1400 hrs for a limited service.

Does anyone know if and what has happened to G4T at Promenade today, Monday. They have not opened today and all telephone lines seem not to be working???

Try to contact the boys Grande Parents.
Exactly if you know where they live, if there are any, then turn up on their doorstep and say 'all yours'.

common sense.
Always and also expect it anyway, this is Thailand.

Once you reach 70 it is almost impossible to get medical insurance in Thailand, unless you are willing to pay 500 USD a month minimum. Then you have exclusions and existing conditions so you virtually have no cover anyway.

Some of us think that people that go to bars regularly deserve to be ripped off.
Why? Obviously a non bar visitor.
Easy way is to sign the check each time you order and make sure the staff know you are doing that, then only pay for those that you sign, saves any arguments or nasty situations.

Anyone know where I can purchase cans of Propane?

The LPG sold in Thailand is Butane which has a lower combustible rating than Propane therefore burns at a lower temperature. Pure propane very difficult to obtain here.
