  1. i have only just joined thai visa as i was looking for farang women to be friends with.

after reading some of the messages on this thread, i, as an educated thai woman, i have to question why so many of you are involved with women you do not trust.

    Welcome.

Now that is the million dollar question :o

Some men like "bad" girls. The "good" girls can get very boring. "Educated" women? Now that's a whole 'nother story.

    I don't need a million, but I could use a couple baht.

Good answer. Your $1000000 is in the post, if my experiment of turning a good, educated, trustworthy woman into an exciting bad woman whilst retaining her trustworthiness, fails.

  2. but she does know iam descent and non religious person

If you are non religious, how can you be muslim?

    WIKI:

A Muslim (Arabic: مسلم‎), pronounced /ˈmʊslɪm/, is an adherent of the religion of Islam. The feminine form is Muslimah[1] (Arabic: مسلمة‎). Literally, the word means "one who submits (to God)".

By definition, a religion is a world view that tells us what to believe and how to live. It is composed of ideas, i.e. doctrines, and values

and I do not believe in those doctrines.

    parents do :o

    Then you're not a muslim.

  3. There's the ideal of the perfect world we'd like to live in, and the real world we live in. Though we can try and 'improve' (move it closer to our personal ideal) the world we live in, if we push too hard, we isolate ourselves from the real world and the people therein.

Careful of trying to put the man in your life in too small a cage, he's bound to try and escape if he starts feeling claustrophobic.

There is a big biological difference between men and women, and sexuality is one of the biggest. If you try too hard to turn your man into a woman, or vica versa, the relationship is doomed.

The problem does not lie with you, or with porn. It lies with the unrealistic values our society uses to raise it's children. Fortunately, many people manage to shed some of those unrealistic ideals as they age. Unfortunately, it causes much drama on the way.

Welcome to the real world. It's a wonderful world, if you don't fight nature.

  4. MIG, I disagree. Though the scenarios you painted may be motivated by money, they may well be simply motivated by fun, or whatever.

Thing is, as I read your post, you are looking from the viewpoint of someone who starts off with the belief that the only reason younger women want to be with older men is money. It's a fallacy. I can tell you from my own experience, as well as many others I have observed. Older men quite often satisfy many other needs a female may have much better than younger men do, to the acute chagrin of those younger men, I might add.

You start off with this statement:

"and ofcourse the added element of: older farang guy and younger thai woman. cannot be anything but for money."

Throughout your post you view the incidents from that belief.

    And you end with:

"(and yes Im aware of the irony of me making general assumption that the girls couldnt have been attracted to the older men in the scenarios described. They could very well be, I have no way of knowing, cos I dont know them. But am using these as examples to illustrate based on the same scenario many have repeatedly posted in terms of the older men with younger women )"

You have no way of knowing, by your own admission, yet you still view the scene in front of you from that belief.

It CAN BE, and quite often is in the West at least, but I'd say here as well - though not to the same degree as the culture is more money-focussed, that younger women prefer older men, even not so handsome :o older men, for reasons that has everything to do with building a stable relationship, or sometimes just a night or two of 'fun'.

and if you are talking about security checks on them, how would you feel if she were to do the same to you?

im not provoking an argument, just asking the question here.

Who said it is a bad idea?

Men are inheritly unfaithful and if that is something that bothers you, try your new man out.

"Men are as faithful as their options."

    True so true

    Rubbish.

It's an excuse <deleted> use to draw everybody down to their level.

  8. So many stories of woe on here almost everyday, regarding getting ripped off by a Thai lady, you begin to question everything in your own relationship. So what is the ways to uncover these fraudulent relationships before they cost you a house, children or much more. What are the signs?? Whats the advise??

It's simple really. Biggest red flag is the use of Thai culture to excuse actions which throw up red flags IN ANY CULTURE. When someone says 'but she's Thai", run for the hills.

  9. Uh...I believe the right response here is...caveat emptor and TIT. Sounds like the stereotypical 'Mexican standoff' to me. Once again, a Westerner has been fooled into thinking the Thai mind works the same as his does. Unfortuntately, the Thai don't think logically in the same way we think logically; very frustrating to us when we expect an outcome that the Thai cannot fathom. You need to reach the publishers if possible to get a satisfactory solution. Good luck.

    Ummm... OK. :o

  10. I reckon that China could be more unstable than Iran. If unemployment rises and trade with US/Europe continues to fall the government may struggle to maintain control.

I also wonder when the economists will realise that the environment and climate change is a major factor on the world economy. A system based on endless growth is not sustainable, and ploughing tax payers money into schemes intended to prop up an unsustainable system is a waste of our money.

But if 2008 showed us one thing ..... it's that economic experts are clueless!

!00% agree re China. I'd change the 'may' to 'will' though.

    Agree re climate change.

Economics experts - some may be clueless, I think some are just (like most (climate) scientists) careful to be very conservative. Quite a few reasons for that.

  11. Not flaming SJ. You are well aware of a recent thread where you added old images to a new story to create bias.

Ignoring previous posts on the same subject, just look back to your quoted reply to Gravelrash's post. It is apologetic of censorship in Thailand. And it is far from being an isolated case.

This is your right. You do not profess to be a journalist. Board members should however be aware that what you are posting is coming from a biased viewpoint, not - as I stupidly assumed for so long - to fulfill a need for BM's to be informed of news.

  12. meanwhile...

Uproar in Australia over plan to block Web sites

SYDNEY, Australia - A proposed Internet filter dubbed the "Great Aussie Firewall" is promising to make Australia one of the strictest Internet regulators among democratic countries.

Consumers, civil-rights activists, engineers, Internet providers and politicians from opposition parties are among the critics of a mandatory Internet filter that would block at least 1,300 Web sites prohibited by the government.

    Associated Press / 2008-12-26

Because it was in the small print on the new government's election platform, the dimwit Minister is claiming to have a mandate to introduce this nonsense. There is a protest group setup already fighting it. It will probably get installed, then the outrage and technical problems will cause it to be removed and the Minister quietly reassigned to counting kangaroos in some desolate part of the outback. It would be nice if his Thai counterpart could join him. Seems he has little sense for a long term career in politics.

It's interesting that the targeted blocking by Australia is for sites that have nothing to do with lese majeste and thus in that regard it seems like the stated reasons are far more tenuous than Thailand's targeting and consequently are much more in line with what what people are complaining about.

It is MOST interesting that a poster who seems to spend an inordinate amount of time bringing us the news, seems to defend, and probably condone, censorship of ANY kind.

But then, it's also been noted that your 'news' postings are 'enhanced' to bring home your personal message. Propaganda?

  13. If this thread turns into either an anti-Semitic or US-bashing thread it will be closed and suspensions will be issued.

Those posts disappeared pretty smartly. Guess fair questions are not allowed on TV. Careful we don't restrict free speech too much, else TV will start looking like China. In which case I for one will gladly disappear from here. Maybe I will now be banned. Mai pen rai.

  14. Culture is a coping/survival mechanism. The education system reinforces that culture. See it in the context of how free and open the society is allowed to be by the rulers, and what opportunity and rewards there are for independent thought, effort, ideas and responsibility. Eastern societies have generally not enjoyed much along those lines, the Japanese are an exception in that regard to a great degree. Japan has a history of appreciating the search for perfection.

This is partly the reason why there is such a struggle in the democratizing process in the East. The culture in general is aimed at a very controlled, feudal system. It'll take generations to change, understandably.

  15. I hate to sound negative but the truth? I think we will not see it.

Recovery to a standard of living many have grown use to will not be possible.

Of course we will survive but it will be different.

I do not think it will be quick I think it will take years thankfully to degenerate completely

Depressingly close to what may be. For our children's sake, let's hope not.

Then of course there's the little matter of climate change which has been shoved off the rickety table it finally managed to land on, 50 years after it was first mentioned....

Definitely time for the tough to go drinking.....

Red Shirt protesters on a previous occasion

Red Shirt Protesters Promise to Let MPs into Parliament

Key leaders of pro-PTP or the red shirt protesters have surrounded Parliament and have said MPs will be allowed to enter Parliament via the Pichai Rd entrance.

If MPs decided to travel to Parliament, they'll be force to park near Chart Thai party and make their way on foot to Parliament. However the Democrats are concerned about the safety of Party MPs, fearing a repeat of violent attacks against non-PTP MPs when PM Abhisit Vejjajiva was voted as premier.

    TOC / 2008-12-29

Again with a picture that is old and not part of the story :o

I'll understand if you've forgotten this part of the story... afterall, it has been 14 days.

I have not forgotten, but come on.... You think the PAD was peaceful yet when they occupied the government house the PM and MP's did not meet their for fears of violence.... No body in their right mind would go into a building surrounded by protestors..... especially in a country were the police can't seem to control protestors....

All of that is niether here nor there, you posted an image that did not belong to the story in an attempt to make it look like part of the story.

That would occur only to those that couldn't comprehend "on a previous occasion"....

SJ, the difference between being taken seriously by the majority of people or just those aligned with your personal views is evenhandedness. I've noticed bias in your postings, but now methinks the bias is starting to get to the point where whatever you say will be suspect. Which is a shame. I've never put you in the camp of those that wish to paint reality the way they would like it to be before. You mostly post news articles, so one would assume your threads are of a journalistic nature. If they turn into a mini Fox news you may find you lose a lot of respect.

  17. Oh you have GOT to be kidding... the Thai police have a bad image because THEY EARNED IT and are doing nothing to clean it up.

Yeah... also due to sensationalist Western reporters and wanna-be reporters on thaivisa making up stuff left right and center. Some of the stuff that's get written on forums about how bad Thailand..police are etc... is ten times more exaggerated that what you hear in an expat Pattaya bar.

You just gotta be joking. This is taking the evil West being responsible for Thailand's problems/image into the sublime. Ask any Thai what THEY think about their police....

  18. Is it possible the MIL told a porkie to the family and actually did try to nick smth?

Yes of course it's possible. But I think she may have an excuse. This country is run by the rich who hate the poor - and they get the poor to watch each other.

Having said that..I was back in ol' blighty recently - at a computer store (not a shop - one of those big places) near the end of the Piccadilly Line..Anyway, some 30-something (white) bloke walks in - yacking away on his mobile.. and walks around in the shop (still yak, yak)..then walks out of the store still talking on the mobile..

Within seconds this alert security guard - older - late 40's - (black - think it's worth mentioning) gives chase. The white guy BOLTS and drops something in the car park. He was a shoplifter...the guard came back with the item but the younger guy gets away.

Moral relevant to this thread? I'm white..the criminal was white and not young.. Things aren't always as some would like to make out. I gave myself a reality check at that moment.

You seem to have a problem. Nobody brought race into the issue.
