I'll answer that one after 45+ years in the oilfield. We always had a huge inventory of leases that weren't going to get drilled until the price of oil went up enough to justify the investment. Maybe never. It costs very little to maintain an idle lease. And leases get bought and sold and traded just like any commodity. I have a nephew whose company does that. Never produced a drop of oil, just buying and selling leases. And he's loaded... So having a bunch of leases doesn't mean you have a bunch of viable drilling locations.

The fact that I see so many Teslas in China, where Chinese EVs are so much cheaper indicates to me that there's a market for a premium product, even at a higher price. "Premium" could mean better quality, or just more status. Tesla delivers that. GM and Ford don't.

New Hampshire results were skewed by the DNC decision not to accept any delegates from the NH primary. That freed up thousands (tens of thousands?) of undeclared votes that normally would have been cast in the Dem primary. Instead of wasting their vote on the Dem of their choice, they voted against the Repub they hated. That's why, in a Blue state, around 120,000 votes were cast wasted in the Dem primary while over 315,000 votes were cast in the Repub primary. And 70% of Trump voters were registered Repubs while 70% of Haley voters were registered undeclared. Some of them were independents, but a lot of them were closet Dems, just voting against Trump.

And thank God for that, because the deal currently being "tanked" calls for allowing 5,000 illegals in a day. When I was a kid, teachers and teachers' unions were well respected. After their stunts during Covid and the leftist indoctrination of kids in school, not so much. They may all vote for Biden, though I doubt it because there are still some conservative teachers. But their endorsement is no longer meaningful to other voters like it would have been 20 years ago.

Here in China I see lots of Teslas. And lots of BYDs. I don't think Tesla has to worry about BYD as an existential threat. Ford and GM? They're toast unless there are more trade barriers erected.
