  1. To this day, I wonder how those shops on the streets of Bangkok Chinatown are allowed to create and sell license plates. I'm assuming there's lots of other places to get plates made, in addition to official gub'memt plates.
  2. Is it really that stupid? If so, on the face of it, I can't help but wonder if there's a component of "white man's guilt" in those numbers.
  3. Seems pretty reasonable that they want to make sure it's your passport, whether by matching fingerprints or facial recognition, obviously every time...
  4. Maybe. Or maybe he knew the local popo are crooked as a dog's hind leg and nobody would do it if he didn't. Personally, I don't know in this case or with this guy.
  5. Gosh, I hate to be this way. And I don't know any of the players from Adam or Eve. But every time I see something go viral like this (with all the revenue and donation potential), I can't help but wonder if it was staged.
  6. And shut down just before the Breakfast Buffet? Bad plan.
  7. There's the number I was looking for. 5% seems believable. Next I wonder how many of the 50K annual migrants come, intending all along to anchor themselves to the UK and bring their family of 7 as soon as they can...
  8. On the humanitarian side, native born overweight, unattractive women with a bad personality will see their romance prospects improve significantly. After all, they need luv, too. Still, I wonder how many natives will be affected vs the number of transplants who have anchored themselves, all along planning to send for their wife and 6 kids.
  9. One can always push it back Prairie dogging doesn't work with most Thai food.
  10. Curious about the relative numbers... What percentage of the affected people will be native Brits falling in love and wanting to bring their spouse in, vs the percentage of 3rd world refugees who anchor themselves with a minimal job then send for their wife and 6 kids, along with (eventually) the extended families of both spouses? Surely, it sucks for those who get locked out, but I wonder what the real goal is.
  11. Cops called at 1:00AM. The company I worked for in Thailand had a policy against road travel at night on company business. Smart policy in my opinion. I wonder if the truck's rear/brake/turn lights were working. I've experienced too many where I didn't even see them until I was right up on them, because they had no rear lights. So in my personal travels, I tried to avoid driving after dark. It's scary...
  12. I couldn't care less about Hunter, except to the extent it exposes Joe's lies and any crimes he has committed. Anyone remember the debate where he claimed Hunter never took money from China and he never discussed Hunter's business? Sorry lying liar who lies, now exposed. The indictments of Hunter are a clever ruse to a) make sure he doesn't testify to congress because now he has 5th amendment protections and b) to give the illusion that they're being equal in their application of the law. He'll never spend a day in prison for his misdeeds because this will drag on through election day 2024 and the next day, Biden will prove once again he's a lying liar and pardon him. (That's assuming Joe even makes it the election day. I agree with some right wing conspiracies that Joe will suddenly take ill before the election, when the walls close in, and Kamala will pardon him and his son a'la Ford/ Nixon.)
  13. I had great luck getting stuff from AliExpress when I lived in Thailand. With E-Post, delivery was usually peanuts and pretty quick. Every once in awhile, the goodies would hang up in Thai customs for a few days, but usually not on low $$$ products- mostly stuff over $100USD.
  14. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224443503948?hash=item3441e0154c:g:7psAAOSwuDBfzOeS&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8DnoHhyNVICwl%2FNjLb5RrKkWEaUxYl%2B4%2F7zD1evQ5I565qPndkOjqq1iv%2BCq%2FcwXTvk9NVsHoYWmkkqRaFMfgxA5Cd9csd8o8%2F5deVcPGVkvHXJsmEV%2F7FMwiNn44%2BSNRxEdRYMrqsWq1tG872QwUiP1w1B1Vezwms55grbkdVhgGHFJnrgMv9GvsCvRHm327et8Me7naWjQJXfVUQS3GI7E6GIaL3Dl8SoC3jRzs%2F%2BJM9CakvnEEmNoZ5g8mjSqooij2Y0nFgjSs1asCG1bxJz3Ye%2BleqQUpVt%2FsdID66WqyzfuJhznQT0ms14ltyktcg%3D%3D|tkp%3ABFBMooWrrIpj Looks like they come from China, so I'd look at AliExpress in addition to EBay. (Start your AliExpress search with "clockwork spring") I hope they have one that matches your configuration with regards to length, width, etc.
  15. Unless that statement was taken out of context, it should disqualify the guy from ever being taken seriously. It'll be years, perhaps decades and maybe even a generation or two before the results are in and mRNA is "proven" to be safe- or not. Or more specifically, the mRNA in the form that's been pushed on and mandated for millions, whether they chose it or not. The OP itself is yet another resetting of the goalposts, where they now acknowledge unintended proteins but "no evidence of harm". Yet is the key word that's missing. It'll be years before they know the effects of the unintended consequences. Whether it'll affect kids, child development, the prevalence of autism, etc. Whether it will affect the immune system, accelerating cancers and other diseases. There are hundreds of unstudied long term effects that we don't understand. Yet. Maybe they'll be nothing burgers, but it's way too early to know.
  16. Competitive, yes. They're all competing for Pfizer funding. When I was a kid, the US gub'ment funded healthcare research. But they've abrogated that to private interests and to the universities who also compete for Pfizer money. Of course, it's not just Pfizer money. It's Bayer, it's Monsanto, it's Purdue (of OxyContin fame) and dozens of others. Who, not so coincidentally, dominate advertising in the MSM. So I don't count on that competitive bunch for much truth when it gets in the way of their ad $$$.
  17. Perhaps the message they're sending is that an Elite Visa doesn't allow you to open a shop, even an online shop. For that you need to register a business and get the proper visa and a work permit. Same with online gambling sites, pirate streaming sites, hooker sites, etc. Tourists need not worry, but she's hardly a tourist...
  18. Perhaps you should ask the victim in this story the same question: She cautioned other solo female travellers to stay vigilant. Florentina urges fellow female travellers to think twice before venturing alone in Thailand. Despite the support from local authorities. “Don’t trust one person. It’s better to trust no one. Travel with companions, and stay safe.” There are predators out there, and I for one believe that the choices we make play a huge role in whether we become prey. A sad lesson she just learned, and (kudos to her for her courage) wants to pass on to other women so they don't suffer the same horror. The alternative is to believe that it's all random and the choices we make play no part in our fate. I reject that alternative.
  19. I think the charges were related to selling stuff online, not fishing for clicks, likes, and other intangibles. If she didn't register that business, she was also not paying VAT and income taxes. I think YouTubers are safe as long as they don't sell a tangible product. That said, I'd make sure my ducks were in a row before I'd start besmirching the country.
  20. They seem to have completely diverted attention away from the German rape victim on Koh Chang. Perhaps they aren't so dumb...
  21. Not surprising that, during cold and flu season, Thai people go to the hospital to be tested for their symptoms, including for Covid. That's where Thai people go for health care. Also not disturbing that 545 may have tested positive in one single hospital. Most of them apparently got sent home to recover. The other recent articles spelling out 536 total hospitalizations for Covid this week, in a population of 71 million, means they'd have to fill Rajamangala Stadium twice to find a single candidate to actually be hospitalized for Covid. That's 1 hospitalized Covid patient in 130,000 people. Thailand having about 1300 hospitals, that's one Covid patient every 2.4 hospitals. Not even one bed per hospital. With 3 deaths, that's a 1 in 23,000,000 chance of dying with Covid this week in Thailand. https://aseannow.com/topic/1313400-thailand’s-weekly-covid-19-cases-surge-over-500-with-three-fatalities/ This study done in Wales sums it up pretty nicely: ...They also found that those who reported high levels of compliance with Covid restrictions and were most worried about infection during the pandemic are least likely to have resumed normal behaviour and more likely to be experiencing stress, anxiety and depression now. https://www.bangor.ac.uk/research/news/mental-health-costs-of-lockdown-compliance-still-being-felt-research-shows https://www.healthwisewales.org/uploads/Images/Research projects/Project_updates/Bangor_lay_findings_reformated.pdf Sadly, there are societal costs to staying in pandemic mode, and it's going to be years before those costs are fully understood.
  22. Oops. Dbl post...
  23. I took the oath in 1988 and don't miss it at all. Except when I've been out dancing and that doesn't happen much at my age. Small price to pay for all the benefits. Not to mention saving over $300,000 I would have spent on booze, based on my pre-oath booze expenses, adjusted for inflation over the past 35 years. I don't recommend it for everyone, but if drinking is causing problems in your life, you have a drinking problem. One of those fortunate problems for which there is a simple solution. (Simple, maybe not easy.) I'd also say that if you need booze to make life interesting, you're not doing it right. But as long as the booze isn't causing problems, enjoy. And I mean that sincerely.
  24. Especially those of us from the nanny states who are accustomed to being protected from our own poor judgment. When I first moved into my 5th floor apartment in BKK, I found myself leaning out over the balcony to see what kind of birds were fighting on the 4th floor. Had the patio been wet and slippery I could have easily gone over, since my center of mass was way out into empty sky. A real eye opener...
  25. Get a can of WD40 to clean the asphalt off your car's finish before it sets up and gets harder to remove. Pay special attention to the lower running boards and down low where the asphalt sprays up from the tires. Clean it quickly and you won't drive around for months with tar spots. WD40 is not the absolute best stuff out there for the purpose, but it works quite well. We also used Johnson's Baby Oil (or any generic mineral oil) quite successfully. Mineral spirits (paint thinner, but not the real hot solvent in lacquer thinner) works, too. Of course, keep a few clean rags...
