  1. Between 2020 and 2024, how many primary votes did Harris get? Bait and switch is too polite. This was a coup. Revealing which side is the real threat to democracy.
  2. I thought critics suggested "she" may have XY chromosomes, which would have given "her" a lifelong developmental advantage, regardless of how "she's" managing her testosterone level today.
  3. It's one thing to target a nationality. It's another to target people who are misbehaving, and they turn out to be of a specific nationality.
  4. The economic theory goes that they can use that sweaty tourist money (and not just RMB) to invest in projects to improve water treatment, solid waste disposal and other projects that improve the quality of life for everyone in Thailand, especially the natives. But also the visitors. Of course, that would require some discipline at the trough of corruption. But I don't foresee that happening without a strong man at the helm. Edit: Which is why I don't suffer from Thaksin Derangement Syndrome. He may not be the guy to do it. But he's the only guy I've seen that's capable of enforcing that discipline. But that's another topic for another thread.
  5. Is the 7/11 tech that good that they can tell there's a burger missing between inventory cycles? I can see how she'd get docked if the cash in the till didn't match the receipts issued, but I'm not sure they'd dock her if there was a burger missing. It would probably be days or weeks before they reconcile the inventory. By then, they wouldn't know which shift to dock, much less which girl. Or do they have RFID tags hidden on all the items?
  6. Bring your passport and buy the stored value tickets at any MRT and BTS station. If you don't go during prime times, the queue is generally minimal. I bought mine with cash, and top them up with cash. I only had to present my passport the first time. And once, post Covid when my cards hadn't been used in years. I don't recall whether they binned my expired cards or topped them up. Someone else may chime in with the expiry date if they aren't used for awhile, but I suspect it's over a year. TBH, I only use the ARL once a month in each direction, so I don't know how to buy a stored value ticket for the ARL, though I suspect it's the same. If I had a need to use the ARL more often, I'd certainly try to get a stored value card. The queues at the machines can get long during peak times. I'm told that the BTS has never offered a discount for old farts, and that the MRT discount for old farts has recently been limited to Thai passports. But it's so cheap that I haven't even looked to see of my BTS Elder card still gives me the discount since last month when I topped it up. Good luck, and enjoy!
  7. I actually enjoy watching a good break dancer, especially on the street when I don't expect a show. But I wasn't so keen on seeing it in the Olympics. My first thought was that judging it would be too subjective and it would end up being political.
  8. You lose the argument when you refer to Wikipedia as a reliable source. It's become a meme.
  9. Years ago, I left an LPG canister outside and forgot about it for a year or so. Came back to find it empty, with corrosion holes in it. Fortunately, there was no buildup of gas since it was outside. Had it gone off, no amount of tightening the valve would have done the trick. The best thing to do is run away. Far away. Leave the heroics to the guys who have the training to know the dangers. I have undergone BLEVE training in several capacities over the years, and that's a situation I want no part of, especially from up close. Sometimes the safe solution is to set up a perimeter and keep everyone away. BTW, I doubt my canister would have rusted through in just a year outdoors. But it was one of those refillable ones that may have had a history before it was delivered to me. Covered up by coats of paint...
  10. It also doesn't hurt to live in Thailand where P4P is cheap and socially accepted. Old farts back home are still spending tons of money following their's around. With much diminished returns...
  11. Title is the question. Unfortunately, most social media is blocked here, so it's tough for me to see any videos. The stills I could find don't tell much of a story. https://apnews.com/article/2024-olympics-breaking-a3101ed263a9368bb33627931f5102f3 https://www.foxsports.com.au/olympics/paris-2024-olympics-breakdancing-debut-breaking-australia-raygun-rachael-gunn-news-snoop-dogg/news-story/e3a9b89547c49458d0c5fef0668ebb33
  12. I certainly don't advocate it, but had my member been lopped off at an early age, it would have saved me probably millions of dollars I spent chasing women. And catching one. That one was the most expensive. It pains me to consider all the accomplishments I missed, spending all that time, money and energy following my winkie around my whole life.
  13. Many fell on hard times as a result of the Orwellian reaction to Covid.
  14. Plus, hundreds of millions of active users, and he rattles off 8 who have been kicked off for what look to me like legitimate TxC violations... How many conservatives were banned before Elon bought it? Gizmodo says they can identify 12,000 accounts that were reinstated after Elon bought Twitter, and that was in 2022. They also suggest his target is to reinstate 62,000. It would be interesting to see a 2024 update. How does that compare with 8? https://gizmodo.com/elon-musk-twitter-12000-banned-accounts-restored-data-1849848764
  15. Eight months for an 8 day mission? I hope they packed extra toilet paper.
  16. One positive.... They're a great market for Thai made goods. I see them every month, packing and repacking their stuffed luggage at the departure ticket gates and queued up at the VAT refund desks. They probably aren't bringing Chinese made goodies back to China.
  17. On an aside, do Thai owners generally carry enough insurance to cover a 10 million baht home? (Assuming the foreign occupants were renters...) And in any case, will they go after the renters to recover the damages? I'm asking as a prospective renter... Will I want to get insurance to cover my liability? Back home, we'd suspect cooking meth, or bean burrito night. Sadly, the news cycle will probably be onto other things when they finish the investigation.
  18. Thailand has a lot more than the climate to worry about. May as well spend money on the problems that they can affect. With 1% (+/-) of the world's GDP, Thailand could go back to wood huts and walking and it won't make one iota of difference to the earth. Which puts them in the enviable position, if they choose, to let other countries decimate their economies. I'd suggest improving wastewater treatment and trash collection. Those would have an immediate positive affect on the quality of life for everyone in Thailand, tourists included. And absolutely no disagreement about "the science" behind it.
  19. I always love pulling these out, on the outside chance they'll be seen by someone with budget enough to buy beach cleaners. And to shame the cities that don't bother. Especially the ones that make their money on tourism, both foreign and domestic. And I love Songkhla town and Samila Beach... Shameless plug. The bottom photo is right after a storm blew through. If you know Samila beach, that's why the water's roiled. They were right on top of it.
  20. They sure don't like Musk since he quit squelching conservative viewpoints, do they?
  21. And it was happening 1,000 years ago, and 10,000 years ago, and 100,000 years ago.
  22. I'm told he was a manager for one of the major oil field service companies (retired). Generally, those guys are very diplomatic and some of the best at conflict resolution because they have to deal every day with the Straw Bosses you refer to. And not from a position of authority. The saying goes "The customer may not always be right, but they're always the customer". Even roustabouts and roughnecks. Edit: He may be an outlier, and maybe demon rum got him that night. But having been both the company man and a vendor at different times, I'd be careful painting someone you don't know with a broad brush.
  23. I'm curious whether Sumet Sumetho has indoor plumbing? The answer may 'splain the rapid growth and unusual size.
  24. If it was a women's sport, and there were extra points for style, I may tune into that one. But only if the time zone worked out right. And it would fit right in with recent Olympic "activities".
  25. First time it ever happened to me, too, in 20+ years of working, doing business and traveling to China. But lots of things have changed post-Covid. Many for the better. Some, not so much. I may have just caught the ISP caller on a bad day, but why risk it?
