I don't know what the A25 gives you above and beyond, but I've been perfectly happy with my A05s, currently selling for less than 5,000 baht. I popped 1000 baht for the "upgrade" over the base model, A05 (I think) which gave me a higher resolution screen. Mine's also a dual SIM model. I think the A15 is available in 5G if that's important to you, for 6,000 baht or so. I've been looking for a backup phone and pricing out the Samsungs since I've always had good luck with Samsung products, starting with my first smartphone, a Galaxy S2 for about $600 USD at the time. 10 or 15 years later, I can buy a more capable phone for 1/4 the money... But the S2 still works AND it has a field replaceable battery. Sadly, I left it in the USA, The main reason for wanting a backup phone is to have an extra media player for those long flights where they no longer allow power banks to be used in flight, and the (older) aircraft don't have USB charging ports. And if my phone does eventually crap out, I can just swap the SIMs to the backup... Edit: I'd add that I'm not a gamer, so I have no clue about gaming performance... Mines' just a communication device that I use to play songs via Bluetooth and videos on flights, mostly.

School Dormitory Horror: Six Boys Arrested for Rape of Two Girls
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Central Thailand News
50+ years ago, I went to 3 different high schools in 3 different states, and each of them had a group or groups of girls that would very willingly have sex with one athlete after another, and sometimes a couple of them at the same time. It was referred to as "pulling a train" and it was usually jocks and musicians on the receiving end. The only time there was trouble was if they ended up pregnant or one of the jocks' girlfriends got jealous and ratted them out. It was despicable behavior, but hardly rape given that the girls were willing participants and age appropriate. If these guys forced, tricked, or drugged the girls, they should be hung up by their nutsacks. Otherwise the charges should be limited to the recordings and the blackmail. When I was that age, you'd have needed an 8mm video camera the size of a basketball to record the goings-on, so that was never an issue back then. (And who can forget that line in the Janis Joplin movie from 30 years ago or so... about doing a whole football team) -
Kanchanaburi Road Accident Kills Two
impulse replied to Georgealbert's topic in Central Thailand News
I'd be interested to see how Thailand records these 2 fatalities from the same wreck. My understanding is that the guy who died at the scene will be recorded as a road fatality, while the guy who died later, won't. -

Sleepwalking Man Falls from 5th Floor to His Death
impulse replied to Georgealbert's topic in Bangkok News
I hope the cops at least investigate the co-resident relatives. It's about as likely that they pushed him out of the window, then blamed it on sleep walking. Shouldn't be too hard to confirm or deny that he actually did have a problem, by asking other relatives who had an alibi. -
Why? Do they ever get predictions right? Better than a coin flip, I mean... Even after it's over (whatever IT is), economists will be arguing for years who/what caused it, and how bad it really was.

Harris or Biden would have just kept reading the script from the teleprompter. AOC and most other Dems would have yelled at the lady for interrupting. -
Before Covid, there was a Burger King and a Carl's Jr within 50' of each other there. I used to stop at BK, then Carl's Jr after my appointments at Bumrungrad, breaking the fast after drawing blood. I preferred Carl's Jr and was sad to see it missing there, on Silom and at the Davis Hotel. Though I did get one rotten burger at the Silom shop. The meat had obviously gone off. But one bad experience in dozens of burgers was offset by good burgers, fries and brewed ice tea with refills and lemon wedges on the side.

Several neighbouring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I recently spitballed the idea of a few guys getting together and renting properties in various SEA countries and rotating between them. If you had 3 guys, they could rent (or buy) a place in Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia and each of them could live part of the year in all 3 countries. Of course, it would have to be a group you get along with, and trust to keep up the shared properties while they're living there. And to be clear, I wouldn't advocate a room-mate situation. More of a rotation where the guys never even have to see each other. And they'd hire a cleaning crew to come in between each rotation. -
The exact selection changes all the time, but one of the handiest cheap money I ever spent in Thailand was on one of these bit sets. Torx, phillips, flat screwdrivers, many with "tamper resistant" workarounds. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/33-security-screwdriver-torq-set-torx-tri-wing-hex-snake-eyes-tri-point-i2914268389.html https://www.lazada.co.th/products/33-hex-s-hank-i4966279036.html I worked on quite a few small appliances that required one of these tips to open them up and clean them and lube them up. You can also search for bigger sets with a lot more tips.

I can't count the number of huge retailers that swirled down the same drain back home. The two that come to mind are K-Mart and Woolworths, because I spent so much time in my youth looking through the toys and then the sporting goods at each of them. Eventually, shopping there became akin to shopping at a warehouse for damaged and obsolete goods. Then, they were gone. Contrast that with Academy Sports, which started as a peddler of factory seconds and is now everywhere. Though, today they are more of a clothing store that has some sports stuff. I liked them better when they were junk shops. I always pulled in whenever I passed one. Nowadays, I only shop there when I'm on a mission, and get in and out as quick as I can. I'm the same way with the new and zoomy Bass Pro's and Cabela's. Clothing stores with some sporting stuff...

Several neighbouring countries compete with Thailand for foreign retirees
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If that's true, (I have no reason to doubt it, but it sounds too good...), add that to Thailand's new unlimited land border crossings and I could see a lot of expats moving across the river to avoid the 400/800K baht requirement for extensions, the 90 day reports, as yet unknown tax implications, and that tight feeling in their buttcheeks every year when it's time to renew. Thailand would get more tourist arrivals as we (because I may be one of them) cross over to visit several times a year, or perhaps even several entries per month, but the expats will be spending the majority of their sweaty money in Cambodia. -
The Curtain Falls: Russia’s YouTube Ban and Its Impact on Society
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
The question then becomes who gets to decide what constitutes hate and violence (and misinformation in general.)? Seems like anything that doesn't pander to a thin slice of humanity is subject to be taken down or hidden by that thin slice, who have wedged themselves into academia, the MSM and social media overseers. Like the ones that can't define a woman. -

Russian dad’s Phuket heartbreak: Wife bolts, leaves him penniless
impulse replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
What are the odds that a Thai born kid with one Thai parent can be taken out of the country by a foreign parent without the Thai parent's permission? If that was easy, I know a lot of guys who'd be living "back home" with their child instead of eking out a meager living in Thailand, to be near their kid(s). If he got the kid a Russkie passport, the first question at departure immigration would probably be "where's his entry stamp?"... -
Probably the same staffers that know they won't be invited back if Trump is elected. And know that their fat consulting contracts with Big Business, Big Pharma, and the MIC depend on having a tax and spend (and spend some more) career politician in the White House. Vivek spilled the beans when he suggested they could dismantle 75% of wasteful gub'ment agencies.

Disney has tons of lawyers on staff, and trainees that would be picking lint out of their bellybuttons if they didn't have a mundane case assigned. Their incremental cost is peanuts. I think the liability limit is set by state law at $50k, but it would be interesting to see what the Pub settlement was. I feel for restaurants that have to accept liability for any number of food allergies. Imagine being sued out of business if a supplier used peanut oil instead of canola oil and failed to disclose. But I don't feel for Disney at all. I hope they also get the horse they rode in on. With punitive damages.

And thank goodness for that, when they have a 4 syllable first name and a 5 syllable last name. You run out of room on most forms. Assuming, of course, that's accurate.

Bombshell:Dem Convention Protests for Palestine
impulse replied to riclag's topic in Political Soapbox
Oh, Chicago is going to be so, so grand... Muslim leaders expect 100,000 pro-Palestinian demonstrators for DNC. Three main protests are being planned for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, the first and last days of the convention. More than 150 organizations from around the country say they’ve formed a collective to have these protests be large in numbers, and while they represent a number of different interests, they say they will be focused on the Israeli-Palestinian war. https://wgntv.com/news/democratic-national-convention-chicago-2024/muslim-pro-palestinian-protest-plans-dnc-chicago/ DNC 2024 security zones and protest plans: What we know Regarding “demonstration zones,” a federal judge ruled in the favor of the city’s route for protestors near the United Center. A coalition of protestors said they’ll appeal. https://wgntv.com/news/democratic-national-convention-chicago-2024/dnc-2024-security-protest-zones/ I wonder if it'll be as grand as the 1968 DNC Convention in the Windy City. Because one thing we know about "mostly peaceful protestors" is that they won't stay within the approved areas, or the approved activities.
