Why a rare gun charge against Hunter Biden could misfire
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
So, you don't think there may be other reasons to prevent the SSA from entering the names of mental health care recipients into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System? Things like patient privacy? Issues like preventing people from seeking mental health care for fear of losing their rights? How about people seeking an FBI criminal background check to live overseas? -
Covid-19 mRNA Vaccines Win Nobel Prize for Medicine 2023
impulse replied to TallGuyJohninBKK's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
You mean the credible sources that they've tried so hard to sweep from view? Edit: Great to see there's a court case making its way up the appeals process, discussing limits on gub'ment behavior when it comes to violating 1st Amendment rights to discuss things like Covid. -

Car plunges into sea at Sattahip pier following argument
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I wish I could say I've never stepped out of a car, leaving it in neutral on a slight incline and had to jump back in to set the brake harder. Doesn't even take much of an incline. The argument could have been the distraction that created the lapse in judgment. Or the guy may have deliberately driven it off the pier. Hard to tell from the details presented. -
Could be the title on the link: election interference, he'll do it again. Could be this statement: "Part of the reason he worked so hard against me is because he didn’t think that he wanted me in the White House. Or this one: "I don’t think, despite all of the deniers, there is any doubt that he interfered in our election, The deniers, BTW, include the FBI agents who investigated and found nothing there. After nearly two years, Mueller’s more-than $30 million investigation yielded no evidence of criminal conspiracy or coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials during the 2016 presidential election. "The country has a right to know the answer to this question, ‘How is it that after $30 million, the fact that the Clinton campaign falsely initiated the investigation was omitted from their report?’" https://www.foxnews.com/politics/despite-acquittal-durham-trial-of-sussmann-added-to-evidence-clinton-campaign-plotted-to-tie-trump-to-russia

It's a twofer. You get to bash Russkies and racism. -
Rand Paul: Withdraw Ukraine money if you want to avoid shutdown
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
So you're not concerned at all about the UK DefMin announcing plans to put NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine? No chance of deliberate escalation or some kind of tragic error? I see Sunak has walked him back. Soon to fire him, I hope. -
Got a chuckle out of the headline: Thai GDP revised, 2 dead bodies found in container. I wonder what GDP was before they revised it to just 2 dead bodies?

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
impulse replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
I'll see if I can find them. It's been years since I linked to them on TVF (even before AN), and my ability to search is limited using bing.cn where I'm staying. Meantime you can get a head start searching for "Crimea Conundrum". -
Today, the fastest growing gun toting demographic is Blacks, especially black women. Gun sales to Blacks up 58% in just one year. https://www.essence.com/news/black-women-gun-ownership-rise/ The MSM would have you believe it's fear of hate crime and (how stupid is this?) fear of police violence. As if pulling a gun on the cops is going to make you safer... But if you listen to the guys doing the firearms training, it's a rational reaction to crime out of control.

Thailand Wrestles with the Ripple Effects of Cannabis Decriminalisation
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The 1930's called. They want their rental copy of Reefer Madness back. Between weed and sunshine, I'd recommend sunshine any day of the week. But if it's a choice between weed and booze, I'd steer any loved one of mine toward the weed. A lot less deleterious effects. Though I haven't done either one in over 30 years. -

My forecast was, and still is, that Thai weed will have to be sold with a tax stamp eventually. And only the hiso families will be able to buy the tax stamps. So they'll make all the real money, and the farmers and dispensaries will scratch out a meager living. -
Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
impulse replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
The 4 oblasts and Crimea have always been largely Russky ethnically. 2 separate western surveys were conducted in Crimea after the annexation, where the vast majority of residents indicated they want to stay with Russia. I doubt the west will conduct such surveys in the 4 oblasts, because they didn't like the answer last time. -
Rand Paul: Withdraw Ukraine money if you want to avoid shutdown
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Yeah. Because that's really going to happen. The time to negotiate borders is before they move. -
I don't think you're as much in the minority, it's just that there's an extremely vocal minority on here that believe they have the right answer and anyone who disagrees must be stupid, or some kind of phobe. Pick a topic... Trump, Thaksin, Russia, Putin, Thai maleness, you name it, and I think most of us can predict who's coming out of the woodwork to shout down anyone holding "the wrong view". Mostly, why bother arguing with zealots? Here's a great read for anyone who's really interested. An interview with the former president of UPATH and/or WPATH, who's definitely pro-trans (25 years ago at age 45). But she has some deep concerns about the quality and thoroughness of the diagnostic process, along with 1t Amendment concerns about stifling discussion. https://quillette.com/2022/01/06/a-transgender-pioneer-explains-why-she-stepped-down-from-uspath-and-wpath/ "...submitted a co-authored op-ed to the New York Times “warning that many transgender healthcare providers were treating kids recklessly.” “That is going to earn me a lot of criticism from some colleagues, but given what I see [in regard to teenage girls transitioning without proper safeguards], my experience as a psychologist treating gender-variant youth makes me worried that decisions will be made that will later be regretted by those making them,” That's the back street industry I referenced, but others quickly shouted me down on. Also some good links, including to a book on Amazon. Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters. Interesting to read the book reviews. One gave it the lowest score possible, the others praising the book. Kinda like here...

2014 would have been a good time to start negotiating security assurances for ethnic Russians living in the 4 Oblasts. But since you can't turn the clock back, tomorrow at dawn would be the best time to start negotiating an end to the current conflict. -
Biden vows to stand by Ukraine, despite budget fiasco
impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
My best shot? The MSM use the anal extraction method to pull polling numbers out of their butts to support whatever narrative they're peddling. Of course, it's tough to find a link for that, at least for about 2 years or so before the FOIA's and subpoenas come out and the whistleblowers sing. In this case, I'd bet on selection bias... -
Major Airline Employee Held For Sex With Teen Boy At Airport
impulse replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
According to the linked article, he fessed up, but claimed the teen initiated it. Leading me to wonder if said teen isn't a hooker, trying to look older than his 15 years. That's the most plausible scenario I can come up with. Also doesn't say whether the teen presents as male or female. And whether the teen actually filed a complaint. It did say they were interrupted when someone walked in on the act... Lots of questions, not so much curiosity... -
Lost passport with overstay
impulse replied to Jackm93's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
On a related topic, which countries around Thailand will admit someone with an ETD, and can you use an ETD to re-enter Thailand if your overstay is short enough that there's no timewise ban? I guess the equivalent question would be "can you use an ETD to make a visa run and come back to Thailand?" If so, which nearby countries would be friendly and which won't allow it? -

impulse replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I don't guess you're even a little bit curious what would happen in a whole month that would change those numbers so much? Other than polling methods and sample selection?
