Sorry, meant to say I really appreciate your post. So much better to hear actual experiences than see photos on a website.

Thanks, the only downside i should have mentioned is if you book other than directly with the hotel you will get a "city view" room which is in effect a "brick wall" view not one overlooking the pool and Soi Diana. It does'nt bother me as we only stay a few nights and spend very little time in the hotel room (standard with balcony)

I've often walked by there. Good location. Is it quiet and well run? What has been the normal price? Do you book directly with it? Do you need to prepay?   Thanks for your help.

    In answer to your questions.....

Is it quiet and well run?  - Yes imo

What has been the normal price?  - Price ranges from 800bht - 2500bht according to season.

Do you book directly with it?  - Only once have i booked directly, mostly Agoda quotes the cheapest price by far ime.

Do you need to prepay? - If booking directly with the hotel yes but if booking with Agoda sometimes they will do a deferred payment until a few days before your booking giving you the opportunity to rebook or cancel without loss.

Its somewhat in need of a refurb as its become outdated but wifey and i like the place and the staff have got to know us well and nothing is too much trouble. We've done Areca before but prefer LK Metropole. Hope this helps your decision making.

grandpapillon, you’ve misunderstood my post. Wise have not received my money although my bank shows that it’s gone. I’m well aware that the transfer from Wise doesn’t happen over the weekend. Its my transfer from bank to Wise that hasn’t happened.

I had exactly the same situation with HSBC yesterday (sunday). The transfer was debited from my UK HSBC account but Wise were saying they had not received the money, this has NEVER happened before, something has changed.

Wise informed me this morning (monday) that they have now received the money and my transfer will be effected at 2.13pm

    today.

    Samsung A12

Thanks for your recco, i'm just in the process of buying from Lazada for 4790bht but will also need a case, the folding type where i can carry my DL and pink ID card.

Any ideas of a source as Lazada does'nt appear to have any of this type from what i can see.

Better to set up a new banking relationship than to continue playing with HSBC.

Now i have considered doing just that but i imagined you would have to appear in person to open a new account and i live permanently in Thailand and have not been back to the UK in 11 years and have little intention of doing so.

  6. I also have had issues with HSBC bank in the UK but have to say once i contacted them by phone a lovely English lady who could'nt have been more helpful resolved my problem (a Swift transfer i instigated did'nt arrive in my BB account)

After the call the transfer was effected the following day but no explanation why there was a problem, i guess it just got lost in the system.

Good luck to the OP in getting the problem resolved.

I totally forgot about the cheap international calls, for Dtac is 00400 at 6 or 7 baht a minute, so that will make a huge difference. At the time I so distraught over this HSBC mess I wasn't thinking right. Just threw a couple of 500's on the phone and dialled.

I was using DTAC and their 004 prefix code to call to the UK from Thailand at 7bht per minute until i was made aware of www.mytello.com. They charge 0.3 bht to a UK landline and 0.5bht to a UK mobile plus DTAC charge 1bht per minute.

I've never looked back, their service is excellent have a lookie......

Sounds like the way to go is keep with Wise, ensure tagging is set up correctly, perhaps send a small test amount each month just before the bigger amount, if it ever comes through as local send a swift for that month only

Thanks, and that is exactly what i did for my Nov transfer and i will continue to do so.

Prior to using Wise i always did a Swift transfer from my HSBC UK account to SCB bank here in Thailand but the cost became quite expensive with HSBC making a fixed charge of 4GBP together with an intermediary bank charging my HSBC account with 15/20GBP something like a month later. That and the poor exchange rate from SCB made Wise the way to go.

Forgot to mention the 200-500bht fee from SCB to convert GBP to baht to also be added to the cost.

Maybe ask Wise why Thailand is not on the swift list for GBP, it is on the list for USD, so using a borderless account you could switch GBP to USD and swift to thai bank account to settle in baht.

It might work out cheaper just to swift from UK bank direct to thai bank assuming you have GBP
