  1. PRACHIN BURI: -- A 10-YEAR-OLD girl was washed away and feared dead yesterday as the eastern province of Prachin Buri battled its worst flooding in 26 years.

"Big waves were generated by three military vehicles that came to the area to help flood victims," a witness said.

Amazing how previous posters link ( and blame ) the flooding directly to the PM ( presumably because of their hatred towards her ) yet the article is about the tragic death of a kid caused by thoughtless driving of military vehicles.

Thai visa at it's agenda driven best.

I will post it again so the red mass can read and ignore it as the truth hurts.

I don't blame them for the flooding, I do blame them for not doing enough. They had 2 years to prepare and they had a hell of a wake up call. Nobody in their right mind can say they were not warned. Then as per normal with this government they did not want to give openness about the spending of the flood budget or do environmental studies as this would limit their chances of stealing money(kinda like the rice scam where you never see real numbers and everything is a secret). So I call that incompetence and thievery. Because of this many programs were halted. I blame them for this if you cant blame a government for not performing what can you blame them for mr Red supporter ?

Now here in Bangyai (yes I was flooded for along time last time so its a sensitive subject) they were making some new sluices, (red dominated area) But money ran out and (to much stolen) so the project has been abandoned and the partly constructed sluice gate is standing there. Again a example of incompetence...

So do i blame them for the weather and rain... no i blame them for plundering the budgets and not being open doing their work good. 2 years and almost nothing has been done.. only to get dear leader back... now mr Red shirt can you counter this.

Are you saying that if the democrat party was in power this wouldn't had happened? That they would have built a good anti flooding system and implemented flood prevention measures, and that they would not have stolen part of the budget in hidden commissions and the like? It looks to me as it would have been exactly the same, maybe with a better (for some segment of the public) rhetoric, but that's all.

What this country needs are anti corruption laws and enforcement such as China is doing now. Death penalty, life in prison or long sentences if found guilty of corruption, this is a real crackdown and not the ones we are used to around here. And I would dare to say that yellows and reds would be flooding the jails in the same numbers, mr Yellow shirt biggrin.png

The point is that the Democrats are not in office. PTP is in office and has been since the previous flood. They have to take the responsibility of the flood prevention failure due to lack of response and not having qualified people in place with a vision to see what needs to be done. And yes Thailand does need anti corruption laws and enforcement.

...and though they just left office in 2011, when the last big flood hit, and did NOTHING in their term, people still blamed PTP for the 2011- flood!

Fact is simply that no one, no DEM, no PTP, gives a hoot about the subject!

    ...and that is very sad!

  2. Monkeycountry: "Please note that I specifically excluded those not in support of PTP/Plodprasop. They are simply victims of their neighbours poor decisions.

True, the lack of education, means they are not able to distinguish good from bad, but then they should perhaps leave the voting to someone who is? This is the same reason children are not allowed to vote. And no I do not know if things would have been different with a democrat government - did I say that?
It still does not explain why they only demand free cash (for themselves), instead of demanding ministers who are experts in their fields - or both.
And do not forget, when someone does come around the village to try and educate the villagers a bit by explaining what is wrong with the PTP promises, or if some scholar explains that in a newspaper, then they are usually attacked one way or another. Seems to me the villagers do not want knowledge, they are happy with the herd mentality - and the free cash :-)"

So, let me get that straight: for centuries they are denied education - by the likes of you and your knuckle dragging friends- and now you want deny them to vote...because they are not educated enough? Very convenient, isn't it?

And instead of making their education better, so their life may get better...you send some "lecturers" in, when their life (subjectively) got better...and explain to them, why it is not?

You have no clue, what you are talking about!

    ...or even worse: you have!

  3. I have no symphathy whatsoever for most of those people now being hit by floods. They are mostly PTP supporters, hence directly or indirectly voted for Mr Plodprasop, a guy with no relevant expertise whatsoever, a guy who believes floods can be avoided with "water pushing machines", and who does not need or take any advise from foreign engineers or flood experts.

So to you guys now sitting in your flooded houses in the central, east and north east provinces. Most of you got exactly who you voted for, and now your house is flooded - again.

Next time I suggest you ask Yingluck to hire some experts with engineering degrees for technical jobs like flood prevention. In the meantime, have fun with the water :-)

    Complete and utter bull- dung!

They get flooded every year, because no matter what party rules, no one gives a f$#@ about the subject!

Many politicians, from all parties, since forever had the chance to make a difference and they didn't!

Because their villas and condos and estates are not the ones that drown in 1,5 meter of liquid feces ...and if they were, they would just move somewhere else!

Have some empathy <deleted>, even you are in love with Abisith!

He would not make anything different!

Now that they have Yingluck in power, they seem to be able to get at least some of what they want, the rice scam as an example, so why do they not block a street and insist Mr. Plodprasop is replaced with an expert in flood prevention? Not to mention the rest of the government, most of whom have a red t-shirt or a last name as the only qualification for their job.

It seems to me they do not care what the government does, as long as they get some free cash. Well, they got the free cash, and now the government gives them lots of free water too :-)

...and if you gloat about that, you are sad human being!

Following your logic, what about the many people who did not vote PTP...and are flooded nonetheless?

And do you believe, the people who voted PTP did so, to p1$$ everybody off, deliberately?

What would YOU do, if you are not given a flying frog about and someone suddenly comes along and promisses you a better life?

Especially, if you did not get the education to make neither heads nor tales of those promises?

And again: do you believe, we would be looking at a different scenario now, with another-color- government?

May I remind you of the abysmal reaction to the exact same situation in 2011, by a Democrate governor of Bangkok?!

I bet you forgot about that...or do you just wear yellow/blue'ish and slightly rosey glasses?

  5. Sorry, but TV readers are guilty once again of not reading what the article says! It says:

"the internet-based system for the Chao Phraya River basin is the first of its kind in the world"

This is 100% correct. I simply don't believe all those posters saying that the UK or the Netherlands, or whoever, have had such a system since a long time ago. Why on earth would the UK develop an internet-based system for the Chao Phraya River basin?

Thailand's IS the first of its kind in the world.

Are you serious? The headline states "Thailand to launch worlds first flood forecast system". An accurate heading would be "Thailand to use old hat technology for the first time on the Chao Phraya River Basin".

I think once again we have someone guilty of not reading what the article says.

...and here we have someone, guilty of not under-sa-tanding sarcasm...

  6. I would love to see the people in all the areas north of BKK do a "community project" building flood walls and sluice gates to force all the flood and runoff waters directly to BKK. The message has always been - "Protect BKK at all cost, and to hell with the provinces". Yea, well, all the provinces should join together to say - "Protect the provinces, and to hell with BKK!"

    Yeah right!

That is what we should do!

Because it is clearly Somchais fault in Bangkok, that some politicians are too dumb to find their own @$$ for sh1tt1ng in the dark!

Let's flood Bangkok...they all deserve it!

  7. I'm sure if Farangs were in charge the rains would stop.....blink.png

Cos in Farang countries we never have flooding do we, cos we Farangs know better, yeah right...

Aaaaaahhh...I love the smell of Thai- apologists in the morning!

    Yes!

We do have floods in "farang land"!

Not every year for the last....500.000 years, though.... and we learn from it occasionally...but please continue!

The psychiatrists are already grabbing their prescription pads!

  8. A slow day in Thaivisa.... I'd have expected a few pages of posts on " Yingluck said there would be no more floods". Still, it's early days yet......

I agree with toybits, but now we're in danger of being flayed for being 'grammar police'

I would have come back with a witty "she promised no more floods", but actually she only promised that in 2012 so that doesn't apply any longer.

Her latest statement however is a classic:

"It all depends on the rain", she admitted yesterday.

    Well...prove her wrong!

  9. Brave and intelligent Aum Neko wants to change things and allow for a little individuality and freedom of expression. Now she might get locked up and shut up due to some absurd LM charge? Why the need for a uniform when Thailand's students exhibit enough conformity already. It might be time to create a little nonconformity and throw out the uniform; although the uniform does nicely express the notion that Thailand does not allow indiviual thought, only group think.

For youth it's natural to feel a desire to resist previous generation's values, and for society institutions it's natural to limit this desire. If you don't like rules of Thammasat uni - just leave it and study somewhere else. This uni was made by people with a certain vision and a point of view and if you don't accept - it's your problem.

it's getting worse when a few mentally disturbed, unsatisfied, frustrated individuals (such as this ladyboy student) start to use and manipulate youth's protest for self-gratification. it can become very violent, same as it happened in France in 1968. At that time in France people like you also spoke: give them some more freedom of expression! And what was the result? Innocent people died without any particular reason!

Such sick individuals should be separated from the society.

    Wow!

    The troll is out again!

So enlighten us, oh great one...how does change come about?

If not through the young...who is bringing on change?

    The establishment?

Someone setting the rules and suddenly...like struck by lightning...going "Oh! My method, that I thought of 50 years ago...is not that contemporary anymore! Thanks, ....(fill in the entity you choose to believe in) for giving me this thought- I will now go out and make change happen!"

But the degrading terminology you are retreating on (sick individuals and such) shows me, that some are full of it!

    Once again!

  10. Of course people are entitled to their beliefs. Some believe in ghosts, some believe their god created the world in six days and then had Sunday off and some believe that by killing non believers they will go to paradise.

That's fine. I just don't want them anywhere near a big heavy, aircraft that stays in the air thanks to science, not spirits.

"some believe that by killing non believers they will go to paradise." You forgot the 40 virgins and what ever you do don't fly with Air Asia I think being based in KL they may have a few people that believe some of what you mentioned,

Do you think this is God's Sunday?clap2.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

72 virgins. They are very specific about this...which makes me wonder....

  11. If the readers of this thread learn only one thing from it - it should be to be very very careful what one says or writes publicly - particularly whilst this present government is in power! Take it as a warning and keep your own head low!

This might be generally right...but please don't tell me, you believe , it has anything to do with THIS government?

Remember: LM- cases spiked under Abisith like never before!

Thailand has no free speech, is no democracy!

Never was and (I think) never will be!
