  1. Without a valid visa, you are here illegally so it's possible they are being asked to check since people here illegally are more likely to be involved in money laundering and other criminal activities. Or maybe the person you dealt with was just being nosy and it's not a universal policy.
  2. Definitely not a normal procedure. Has never happened to me.
  3. I read this article when I first heard about the case, interesting to see that they have now amended it and added the updates about his alleged crimes and prosecution in Thailand.
  4. Because the representative would have to have some connection to someone in the governor's office in order to offer any settlement in exchange for dropping the charges against him due to the high profile of the case and the top officials involved. Even if she were inclined to accept any settlement, the prosecution against him and revocation of his visa would still continue I think since Anutin has said he will personally veto any attempts.
  5. I doubt any parasite could survive in my frequently alcohol soaked liver but I appreciate the concern. I'm sure the drinking or vaping or infrequent exercise and sedentary lifestyle will get me first before any parasite does.
  6. A flight out today or tomorrow and a short visit in another country until flying back in on the 20th is what I would personally do to avoid any possible overstay stamp or the HUGE crowds after holidays. My permission to stay was also due to expire this Monday so I renewed it for another year at the beginning of April to be safe. If she plans to work/live here awhile, let her know she can apply for extensions up to 30 days in advance next time instead of leaving it until the last few days during the biggest immigration holiday period.
  7. I believe that was only during COVID, or only enforced then and for some visa types, proof of health insurance is required.
  8. Musts hurt being criticized by a country that uses gutter oil and other disgusting tactics. Just to add, I can't recall one time I've had food poisoning in the 15 years I've been here on and off and I've eaten raw crab, raw shrimp, you name it.
  9. All hotels photocopy your passport (or are supposed to) upon check-in. Yes, AirBNBs are not hotels. Maybe you can send the photo they want but check with them if you can redact the more sensitive information you are worried about?
  10. Of course, someone will see the opportunity and want to take advantage and seize his successful elephant "sanctuary". He had an article written about him a few years ago where he already was hated by and got a lot of heat from the locals for trying to start his sanctuary and was only able to do it with the help of a Thai army major with connections. Even more of a reason why he shouldn't have been stupid and given them the opportunity.
  11. My Bangkok Bank ATM card with a Visa logo doesn't even let me buy movie tickets online locally in Thailand anymore. Seems like they keep crippling it after the incident where a bunch of people had small amounts taken out multiple times a year or two ago from some kind of scam operation.
  12. She posted photos of the red mark his kick left which is harm to the body and there is non visible mental trauma from being randomly kicked by a huge swiss fatty and swore at for sitting on public land. I'm glad she is refusing the settlement and hope he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
  13. Guessing he means that when you are looking for something, (misbehaving foreigners in this case), you will find it/them.
  14. Hard to imagine that he would be found innocent since he filmed himself kicking at and swearing at Thai people sitting on encroached public property so I won't even entertain that notion. As for who decided to revoke his visa: "Deputy Phuket governor Sattha Thongkham on Tuesday chaired a meeting of all relevant units and forwarded an urgent letter to the Immigration Chief of Phuket province to consider revoking the Swiss man’s visa as he poses danger to society or likely to cause harm, endangering public peace and order." I imagine it was more of a demand than a proposal and immigration complied of course.
  15. The visa revocation is just a bonus, the punishment will come after the trial. And he is on something like a defendant's visa until the trial is over. Ask your local visa agent if they can hook you up with one.
  16. Even if true, got to be a better way to resolve it than causing the driver to have an accident and climbing over him. Not sure why he is all smiles with the guy in the police station at the end.
  17. I don't care if she's faking it or not, hope she milks that swiss loser and his dumb wife dry and he gets the boot from Thailand. I have no sympathy for him at all.
  18. Yeah because all the recent stories of foreigners behaving badly and causing trouble in Thailand have been black right? 🙄
  19. Sorry for your loss. Your home embassy doesn't have access to the Thai immigration database, nor could they refuse you a passport or entry to the country if you are a citizen. That doesn't mean that it's impossible somebody at the embassy won't tip off Thai immigration though. But either way, you are going to have to pay 20,000 to leave and you will be banned for a certain number of years but that doesn't seem like it will matter to you. As the poster above says, get a temp emergency passport issued by your embassy and leave ASAP.
  20. They are the sons of multi-millionaires and I have no doubts they are doing exactly what they have been told is in their best interest to do right now by the highest paid legal help money can buy. Your generalization of Thais has nothing to do with this topic either way. Humans in general will lie and refuse to take responsibility when being accused of a crime.
  21. No, it would indicate that's what their very high paid lawyer is telling them to do. From experience, Thais will very frequently immediately admit to their crimes once caught because it halves their sentence.
  22. With millionaire parents, it wouldn't shock me if something is worked out and they don't do any jail time.
  23. It's in the article: "According to the Twitter user, one of the two foreigners grouped her friend’s bottom, prompting them to confront him and demand an apology. The Thai woman said the foreign man eventually apologised to her and her friend but both he and his friend continued to act playfully and giggle in front of her camera. After the man apologised, the Twitter user said she turned her back on the foreign perpetrators and was about to leave the scene but one of them touched her bottom. The woman could heard yelling at the men when the foreigner assaulted her."
