Updates and events in the War in Ukraine 2025
Gweiloman replied to cdnvic's topic in The War in Ukraine
Yes, I do wonder about some people, how they swallow up western propaganda without thinking for one second that maybe they are being lied to. Some even trawl through multiple western msm looking for articles that tries to support their narrative. Pretty soon, they will be like the TikTok refugees who went on Rednote and realised that they were the ones who were oppressed and living under an authoritarian regime. I had so much fun watching their reactions when they realised that they are 3rd world citizens. -
It seems like you live under a rock. Average income means nothing. When I was living in the UK, over 50% of my income was gone due to taxes, NI contributions etc. In HKG, only 15% of my income was taxed. I enjoyed more disposable income. Also it’s what a unit of your disposable income can buy you that matters. I don’t mind having half your average income if I can buy twice as much as you.

What does it matter what the comparative income levels are when the average American has to work 2-3 jobs just to pay the rent, borrow money to buy groceries and have to continue paying property taxes if they are fortunate enough to pay off their mortgage whilst the overwhelming majority of Chinese own their own homes, have plenty of food to ear and can live in comfort and safety without having to send their kids off to school wearing bulletproof knapsacks?

Actually, I have another idea. Instead of fighting for freedom and justice halfway around the world, maybe you should start by trying to free your country, the Philippines, from the shackles of colonial imperialism and corruption. Ferdinand and Imelda are universally acknowledged as being the most corrupt of politicians, losing out slightly only to Najib of Malaysia. An apple does not fall far from the tree.

Now you understand first hand why some of us wax lyrical about EV ownership. There will be some bumps and potholes along the way but the overall experience is heads and shoulders above owning and driving an ICEV.

They call anyone who is not on their side an apologist, shill, propagandist, orc etc. Name calling is all they have left. -

Ukraine hasn’t done that well even with the full support of NATO from the beginning. It was doomed from the start and it’s just a matter of time. The big beneficiary has been China and it seems to me that the longer the conflict continues, the more China benefits. An all round win for the global south. -
Can’t disagree with your first sentence. My EV more than gives me the distance I need to travel 99.9% of the time without having to charge away from home. In fact, I’ve never needed to charge anywhere other than at home, either via solar or during off peak times. More than that, I use the V2L function to power parts of my house when I get home, during peak times and recharge during off peak times. As a result, I save on both my electricity and fuel bills.

For once, a perfectly valid and appropriate post from someone who doesn’t own an EV. If you’re frequently having to drive 6-700 km stretches for work, then an EV is not really convenient for you for now. It also doesn’t make much sense for anyone to sell their existing ICE vehicle just to buy an EV.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Does any of other 5 farangs at the table own an EV? I remember having a conversation about Porsche among a group of my friends. None of us had ever owned or driven one so we were just talking rubbish… -

You are obviously clueless. Having lived for years in the “west”, I was amazed at how far advanced even 2nd tier cities in China are compared to many western capitals. For eg, free MTR travel for above 60’s, regardless of nationality. Most things are not free of course but at such low prices, the value for money is incomparable. -

Democracy is Failing the Young – No Wonder They Want Change

Meanwhile, in communist, authoritarian China governed by a dictator, the citizens are enjoying universal health care, free schooling, cheap and affordable housing, public transportation and groceries and increasing life expectancy. So evil… That’s why they are a threat to global (western) security.- 105 replies

To be an enemy of America is dangerous. To be an ally is fatal. These words are getting truer by the day. -

That’s right. It seems like towns and villages are falling under Russian control almost on a daily basis. Budanov reportedly said that by the summer, if things go on as they are now, Ukraine would effectively be finished. Latest news of course is that certain EU nations are planning to resume purchases of Russian oil and gas. They are even talking about repairing and reopening Nordstream as energy prices are really hurting their economies. Who would’ve guessed lol. -

Curious as to why you think Betamax vs VHS is analogous to ICE vs EV. In the case of the former, market demand of more movies, never movies etc determined which format would win out. With vehicles, it’s a piece of equipment that gets you from point A to B in the best level of comfort at the best value. Based on this, I would suggest that an ICE is the better Betamax equivalent. I am in a unique position of having both an ICE and EV in the same vehicle ie a PHEV. 99% of my regular driving is done in EV mode. Why? Because it’s a superior driving experience, more economical and I don’t waste time filling up in a petrol station. If you want to come on here to debate the virtues of both, you are very welcome. Everyone welcomes a different point of view but it should be an educated one with some basis of facts or logic. A statement such as yours without any supporting argument lowers your credibility in spite of your username.
