  1. All things are made to a particular price point and for a specific market segment. China is the manufacturing capital of the world and this wouldn’t have been possible if ALL their products are inferior. If you buy a branded clone at a fraction of the price, you will of course not be getting the same quality as the original. That’s just common sense.
  2. I have a 60 kWh BEV and a 30 kWh PHEV. I haven’t had the opportunity to make a very long distance trip in my BEV yet but have already clocked up 35,000 kms in my PHEV including at least 4 long round distance trips in excess of 2000 kms. Bearing in mind that the real world EV range of my PHEV is only about 160-180 km, I obviously couldn’t do those trips on battery power alone. However the bulk of the distance travelled was done on battery power and I personally didn’t find it a PITA to charge alone the way as CSS are PLENTIFUL and working 100% of the time that I stopped to charge. Apart from one instance at Lomsak PEA Volta, I didn’t have to wait to charge. At this stop, PEA had kindly constructed an air conditioned waiting room with beverages as well. So your claim of poor charging infrastructure is either hearsay or a while ago and not a reflection of today’s situation.
  3. So, you were just repeating what you heard from uninformed ICE owners. Thanks for answering my question. Strange why some people don’t wish to educate themselves.
  4. EVs discounting, fishy. ICEs discounting, not fishy. Good thing oil workers don’t teach economics at universities.
  5. I think there is a higher chance of expensive legacy ICEVs going bankrupt in the next 5 yrs or so. Which long road trip did you undertake that was a pain due to the lack of charging infrastructure? Or are you just repeating what you heard from equally uninformed ICE owners?
  6. You drove your golf cart onto the green? That’s probably why the tournament was delayed, to repair the green. Some people just have no golf etiquette…
  7. This is going to be a fun thread. Hearing arguments from people who have never owned or even test driven an EV, knows nothing about the chemistry of modern EV batteries and battery management systems, possibly China haters, folks who can drive 600 kms on Thai roads without needing a toilet break, folks who have to do a 400 km trip at a moment’s notice etc vs actual owners. @Maybole, does your relative have access to home charging? If she lives in an apartment without being able to charge, I would advise against it. Does she do frequent long trips or even have to do long trips over a festive period like during Songkran? If so, an EV might not be the best choice. However, if she’s like most regular commuters with access to home charging, she will save a lot of money on fuel alone.
  8. Comparing an electric scooter to an EV is like comparing well, an electric scooter to an EV. You might as well compare an apple to an orange.
  9. When I tell BYD to open the windows 20%, they barely crack open, not even below the wind deflectors I have installed. When I ask for 30%, she doesn’t understand me. When I ask for 40%, I sometimes get reprimanded for driving too fast before being asked to reconfirm. 50 or 60% is the same opening width as 40%. A bit more work needs to be done by BYD lol.
  10. He is most likely a Singaporean or Malaysian Chinese. I know that accent well. His car is right hand drive as well which means SEA or UK or Australia/NZ. Looking at the supermarket carpark, I would say most likely Singapore or Malaysia. The voice hold activation works well for me in my Dolphin. First you have to have Android Auto connected of course. Google assistant and home are native to Android Auto. Press and hold the voice command button for a couple of seconds and then just ask Google anything.
  11. I also watch HBO Go and MONOMAX sometimes but mostly YouTube. Main problem is that I finish charging too quickly to watch anything of substance unless I can’t find a suitable hotel and overnight in my car instead. The heat pump in my BYD works really well for those really cold nights during the CM winter months.
  12. A granny cable is the very slow level 1 charging cable that would have come with your PHEV that you plug into a regular wall outlet. Also referred to as the emergency charging cable. This will give you around 2 kWh per hour. The wall charger gives about 6-7 kWh per hour. You might have set your car to only start charging from 10 pm (off peak) which is why the charging session didn’t start at 9 pm.
  13. What a totally ridiculous post and you know it. Really smacks of desperation in trying to defend your untenable position on EVs.
  14. You mean 10 pm and not 9 pm? TOU starts at 22:00 hours. Wall charger or granny cable? Sounds to me like either user error or a setting in the car. Definitely not overloading the grid.
  15. Not happy as you can imagine. However it is what it is. I’ve had the car over a year, done 35k km to date and absolutely love it. As I intend to hold onto this vehicle for many a year, Thb 300k is not a major issue in the overall scheme of things. I highly recommend it to anyone who is not ready for a full EV, especially at this price. Servicing has been excellent at the 4 different service centres I have tried.
  16. Actually, I’m a spreadsheet expert. I was already using Lotus 123 with HAL add-on long before Excel existed. Columns A-H are self explanatory. However column I seems to be exactly the same odometer reading as col C but with a difference of 18,939 km. Col J is also self explanatory ie total amount in litres pumped. Columns K and L don’t make much sense to me without knowing your heading but it could be the cumulative litres/100 km and price per litre over the total ownership of your vehicle. One important metric you have omitted (arguably the most important one ) is fuel cost per km. you seem to be averaging around Thb 2.6 per km. No wonder guys like @ExpatOilWorker loves (deleted) like you.
  17. There’s nothing vague about such a statement. When was the last time you had a cup of coffee and some cookies at Amazon? Most times I’ve been there, it takes about 10 minutes to get your coffee. During that time, I usually visit the restroom. So by the time I get my coffee, check some social media stuff etc, that coffee break can easily take 30 minutes. A lot of recharging can be done in that time. Note that most smart EV owners don’t wait to charge up to 100%, unlike that clickbait YT vlogger mentioned above. I don’t recall reading any post that claims most EV owners are recharging from the solar panels of their house. What I do recall reading is that for those owners who have solar, most of their recharging is done this way. The above has nothing to do with science, just facts.
  18. Looks like you spend more time filling up your spreadsheet than I do charging my car. Luckily my car tells me my consumption instantly without needing any spreadsheets.
  19. If you’re happy with your 18 yo Vios, it’s obvious that you’re not concerned about matters such as ride comfort, handling, safety etc. It’s no wonder that you don’t understand why EV owners love their cars. Even a well known YT EV hater (allegedly) that reviews fish and chips shops in the UK loves the way his EV drives and performs. Anti EVers can’t seem (or don’t want) to accept the fact that the supposed downsides such as limited range, recharge times etc are a non issue for most EV owners. Most of our charging is done at home. Like @KhunLA stated, it takes only seconds to start charging. When on the road, it hardly adds any time to my regular stops for a meal or a toilet break for the dogs. I’m yet to have to queue for a CS in Thailand as they are plentiful. Admittedly I haven’t done a long distance trip in my EV during the new year or Songkran period. Unless needing to, why travel during this time? In any case, this happens only once or twice per year. On top of that, those of us with solar at home are charging at zero or close to zero cost. Even without solar, it’s dirt cheap compared to petrol. With TOU, it’s even cheaper than dirt cheap when charging off peak. So what anti Evers sees as disadvantages are in fact advantages to EV owners. Add onto that the extremely pleasant driving experience, the ready power on tap for overtaking, the modern and convenient features etc, I can’t see myself ever owning an ICEV ever again.
  20. Photos must have been faked. All the experts on this forum are telling us that no one wants to buy an EV.
  21. If a pedestrian is so stupid as to step out in front on an oncoming vehicle, the it might actually be for the betterment of humanity. In any case, I reckon the somchai in his diesel pickup truck kills more pedestrians than EVs. Any part of my earlier post that was incorrect?
  22. If adding an extra 30 minutes or so to your journey is a deal breaker, don’t buy an EV. Problem solved.
  23. Yes, the cobalt used in obtaining petrol and diesel is immoral. Good thing that LFP batteries don’t contain cobalt.
