First name and last name in Thai driver's license
Dazinoz replied to JoseThailand's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
My licence show my first, middle and last names. I flew once and boarding pass only showed first and last. Security had a chat about it before letting me enter. Does there need to be? It list your passport number if they really need to know your nationality. -

Definitely not condoning act but I thought video was classed as deformation in Thailand. Or is that only if farang defames Thai? Saw Facebook post yesterday where a business obtains drivers licences for you at NO effort other than paying. This particular group posted a guys passport photo and another photo saying he did not pay. -

The downhill trajectory of Chiang Mai immigration
Dazinoz replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Chiang Mai
Remember going to the old, small, hot, smelly, overcrowded room before the new building. I was using an agent and was told to arrive 3pm. Sat next to guy and started chatting. He said he had been there since 5am to get a number. I said I use an agent. He quickly commented he would never waste his money on an agent. At about that time, now a whole 15 minutes after I had arrived, my name was called and I collected my passport and was finished for the day. I did say as I walked past him that sometimes worth paying an agent. On another note I went last week to get a re-entry permit. I know they can be done at the airport it's just I like to be prepared. Car park across road was packed and obviously immigration was too. I was in the "document check" queue for nearly 90 minutes but fortunately first when I went inside so only another 10 minutes. Not complaint just saying. -

One of the things that bugs me here. Landlord is required to do it but all they want to do is collect your rent money and not do what is required of them. -
This is a new app and card designed for tourists but I got one as I just cancelled my credit cards and this gives me another form of payment. The main condition of the card is you top it up with your own countries currency which I did. Went to Kasikorn Exchange booth and was quickly registered and received the card. Main reason for this post to see if anyone got it and having trouble. I have tried 3 different QR codes and 2 came back can not use card with this business and the 3rd scanned but instead of going straight into paying it then asked for Promtpay number and something else. I still have my ATM card and used that each time but a tourist, who this card was designed for, may not. Maybe teething problems or just another well thought out Thai initiative.

Have you ever used a lawyer or professional services here? Like most countries they are expensive. I will give you 3 personal experiences. 1. Ex girlfriend had her motorbike registered in my name due to he lack of ID. New gf wanted it out of my name. Visited recommended lawyer. Chatted about 20 mins. He spoke to ex on phone a few minutes. Coat - 2000. 2. Same ex had baby to me. Later demanded large payment. I visited a large group lawyer. Less than 30 minutes and I requested a letter for her to sign with 6 conditions on it. Cost for that consult - 4000. Later they emailed and said they could not legally include 3 of the points I requested but they could draft a letter with other 3 conditions. Cost for that letter was going to cost - 14000. 3. Renewing my Australian drivers licence for Thailand and needed 8 documents to be witnessed and endorsed as true copies. Contacted notary. Cost - 1000 per page or 8000. Luckily I found Queensland JP living in Chiang Mai who did it for me. Cost - 0 So be aware.

Not just Thailand. My bank in Australia limits money transfers to crypto exchanges to $10,000 a month. Thats a fair bit of money and I would not send that much, its just that the bank tells me where I can spend my money I don't like. Also an exchange in Australia I mainly dealt with limited my account because I had sent some BTC to a "gambling" site on the net. I actually used the site to earn interest on my BTC and worked well. That site is now blocked from accessing it from Australia unless you have a VPN. Again, its the control I don't like.

Each to his own but prefer to pop 1 tablet a day and enjoy my life eating and drinking what I want and still pain free.

I suffered "moving" pain which later diagnosed as gout. I say moving in that it went from one part of foot to another. I visited doctor who did a blood test. Uric acid levels should be between 4 and 7, mine was 10.5. I said looks like a strict diet coming up. He said no, the strictest diet will only reduce levels by 10% which would make mine still too high. He put me on 3 tablets. One which I can't remember name I was on for about 3 months to help get rid of uric acid quickly. Also 1 Xandase-300 (Allopurinol 300mg) per day and 1 soda mint each day. The soda mint is usually used for acid reflux but doctor said it helps the Xandase work better. My pain quickly disappeared and a blood test every 6 months shows my Uric acid around 5 but always within "normal" range. My blood pressure recently shot up and the cardiologist changed my BP tablets and told me to stop the soda mint because of the extra sodium. It will be interesting to see what my uric acid levels are next blood test but still no pain.

How much do you pay your Thai woman per month?
Dazinoz replied to Robert_Smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
A year ago met a very cute little miss and we hit off from the very first night. Bought her a few things for her dump of a room but no cash asked for. Things started to get more serious in a short time then came the "demand" for monthly salary of 45,000 a month. For that she would come stay with me most of the time but wanted to keep her room and go back stay sometimes. I just said I would not pay that even if I could afford it. So she just said she would go back to working at bar to which I said good luck ad that was the end. During the short relationship red flags were raised and I found out later she was visiting other men at same time. -
