  1. I have been using QR code scanning to pay for things more often for convenience and avoid carrying too much cash around more lately. I am with Bangkok Bank. A few months bank I tried to pay bar tab at 3am but did not work. Had to be escorted to ATM. I thought just a glitch with app or bank system. I am usually not out very late but last night went to pay my bar tab right on midnight. Did not work. Bar staff just said QR code does not work after midnight. Anyone else have this experience? What's the point of having a system like this if it doesn't work 24/7?
  2. I haven't used transport from Chiang Mai for several years. But I remember a taxi from airport to city centre was 150B. I used to live close to the airport and used to pay over 200B and I remember one time 400B. The other day first time in nearly 5 years used transport from CM airport. When I arrived I used the Grab app. Received a message from driver to goto grab pickup point. Surprised to see a big sign and tent with Grab logo. Cost to goto my house that had perviously cost more than 200 and unto 400?......... 141B.
  3. maybe you need to get a sense of humour.
  4. Maybe we should be politically correct and call them personholes with pronouns it/that?😉 BTW I identify as a TRANSparent with pronouns of who/where.
  5. Possibly the outdoor fan runs more when the compressor is not running to cool the electronics which there is a stack of in an inverter. Good to save money when running but cost a fortune the electronics fail.
  6. More technology, less humanity. Lucky they actually talked to you. I was at a cafe recently when a family of 4, I would suggest mum and grandma and 2 kids around teenage years. All 4, including the older lady all on their mobiles and not talking to each other let alone any stranger. The son actually paying with 2 phones.
  7. The internal fan always runs when AC unit is on so it can circulate the air and monitor temperature so it knows when to stop/start the compressor in the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit fan basically only runs when the compressor is running as that is when the heat is needed to be removed.
  8. From Thailand? I looked on their site and a Singapore address needed.
  9. Only ever used CC and no problems. A few issues and always go my money back. Pre paying comes in handy when you get a parcel ( I was confused as I had not ordered anything) and they say 790 baht COD. I just said never order COD and walked off. Only happened once.
  10. Hello, I am an Australian expat and have lived in Thailand last 10 years. I need to visit Australia soon for family health reasons. On my last visit I found out I had been "kicked out" of Medicare due to being outside Australia for more than 5 years. I need to re-apply if I go back including proving I have left Thailand like closed bank accounts, rental lease terminations, etc. So I am looking for travel insurance for travel to Australia, mainly to cover me for any medical emergencies. Most policies I have looked at are for travel from Australia, even Thai companies. So has anyone had experience and who di they buy from?
  11. I just saw a tree chasing a dog.
  12. I love plant based meats - from a meat packing plant.
  13. Looks like more and more adverts on the way.
  14. Isn't a border run classed as leaving the country?
  15. Not bad considering today is April 10.
  16. I never went to the bar areas but had friends I had met on the internet. Even though catholic they were much more willing and less inhibited. But never asked for money for the deed. But did ask next day for money for food, etc.
  17. Off topic and on topic sort of. Anyone know of any filipino communities or groups in Chiang Mai? Lived Thailand 10 years and only been to Filli a few short times but I found Pinay to be very nice.
  18. Don't know what she dialled. We ended up having a Microsoft Teams message.
  19. Oh ok, I only looked up +69. Explains more but she did try 3 times.
  20. A few days ago I was expecting a call from Australia. At about the expected time my phone rang but when I looked at the number it seemed strange. Normally I would not have answer, however I did but there was no one there. A short time later I received an email from the person trying to call saying she had tried to call 3 times but I had only received 1. The number was +6970500000000. When I looked up country code on Google I got "69 is the special area code dedicated for the Ministry of Defence (Vietnam) and the Ministry of Public Security (Vietnam).”
  21. I bought a couple of small cattle prods in Oz before I left for this reason. These were designed for small cattle. They are about the size of a torch. Tried it out on one dog in Oz and when ever it saw me after that it ran away. A couple chances to use here I didn't have it with me. Use to see a dog regularly around the bar area here in CM and sometimes gave it food and seemed ok and I never threatened him. One night I was heading to the area down a back soi. He was lying under a bush. He looked up as I walked past. I saw out the corner of my eye as I did pass he got up and started following me., thought nothing of it. Next thing, ouch, bit me on the back of the leg, drew blood. A course of Rabies injections followed but could not get the dog to pay for them.
  22. There used to be a TV ad for Colgate Toothpaste "get that ring of confidence". I guess he was very confident.
  23. Sorry to go off topic but reminds me of a joke. Why cant Miss Piggy count to 70? After 69 she gets a frog in her throat.
  24. Been to the bar in the photo many times as an ex works there. She hits the balloons very hard. I tried it once, just gave me a headache.
  25. Yep, saw his vids. Often go past the bar and usually not too many people in it. As the name suggests it is the last bar in a line of bars and I think most patrons get hijacked before they reach there.
