How important is this and what good does the built-in battery do? One I use now turns off immediately after I turn the engine off.

Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Mine turns off a few seconds after switching ignition off. I think the batteries are only there to save settings and data and not so much for recording or playback. Capacitors so much more for that only. Capacitors, especially the size that would be in the unit, don't have the current capacity to run the camera, its only for settings backup.

I discovered this when I had a small accident and when I tried to show police video footage the cam battery went flat in a few seconds. For this I bought a micro SD card reader that plugs into my iPhone and it is in card in case needed/

As I understand it, it's "a bit" to get the queue#, then return later for "a bit" to wait and submit paperwork - so two bits, it would seem.

I understand it used to be some 4AM thing to get a queue-ticket, which was crazy.  The waiting wouldn't kill me, but getting up at 3AM would knock me out for several days (not as young as I used to be).

I went to the old airport immigration one day with my Agent. We arrived 3pm. I started chatting with a guy that had been there since 5am. The guy in front had apparently arrived earlier. I told him I used an agent. He quickly said he wouldn't waste his money on one. Then I was called and walked out at 3.15. I just said to him sometimes worth it.

To each his own but I am an impatient man and prefer to pay than wait.

  3. If your looking for a dash cam to use in Thailand then you need one that uses a capacitor as the backup battery. Batteries do not last long in high temperatures which a dash cam in a car in Thailand would be exposed too. All the cheap dash cams have the backup batteries. I believe most or all of the top of the range blackvue dash cams use a capacitor. Transcend do good dashcams and the drivepro200 which is available from powerbuy has a capacitor the others don't. Buy a cheap one and they will not last so long.

Capacitors are subject to heat also.

Capacitors are only used to back up settings and some data. They can not provide the current to run the camera. At least not the size that would fit in the camera.

  4. I know a lot of people don't like to pay the money but I use a visa agent. They message me when near renewal time. I goto their office and sign all the paperwork they have already prepared. In the next day or 2 I go back to their office and they drive me to immigration at Promenada and get photo taken. This usual is less than 30 minutes at immigration. All done. They then do the next 4 x 90 day reports in that fee and I only have to goto their office, no waiting in queues.

For condos i try always to select units on highest floors as it might benefits air quality. Rarely units that i rent have bathroom windows its usually always enclosed rooms with small exhaust fans for moist air. But with aircon pumping air in the unit i going to need to buy a higher power air purifier. I need research this more.

If it is split system AC, i.e. outdoor unit and indoor unit, there is no connection between the outside air and inside air. The separate units are only circulating the respective are.

If it is older window or wall mounted unit where it is one complete unit then there was a lever to allow outside air to come inside. Haven't seen these sold in a long time.

I have an AC sizing calculator designed for Australia so I will try to put screen shots of what info is required and I if any one wants sizing calculated they can send me info and I will input into calculator and give you an idea of size. As I said this was written for Australia so I will use Darwin as the selected zone as probably closest to Thailand.

Options for Roof or Ceiling are are:- Insulated or uninsulated.

Options for Floor are:-  slab on ground or timber or raised concrete or air conditioner below.

Options for outside walls are:- insulated or uninsulated.

Options for inside walls are:- air conditioned adjacent or not air conditioned adjacent.

Options for Windows are:-  inside blinds/curtains or outside shade or inside and outside shade or no shade.

Options for "Choose" on windows:- north or south or east or west or skylight.

Options for people, electrical, air leaks are:- sitting or sleeping or cooking.

Send me the details and I will calc for you.

Had it regassed 4 months ago only took a small amount of gas

Just getting old like me, i think the unit is a bit small for the room size

Split sytem Acs are what they call "critically charged " units. In other words they work best with the designed about of refrigerant. Of course there is leeway. Often a good way to tell an AC is low on refrigerant is icing on the small pipe coming from the out door unit. This indicates low. I used to add refrigerant until the icing stopped then a slight bit more. Obviously the correct way is to reclaim the remaining refrigerant from the AC and recharge with new refrigerant as per the manufacturers specifications. If no icing and the unit is not cooling then most, if not all, refrigerant gone.

The other problem I have had here in NongKhai is that there is another house in our moo ban (neighborhood) with exactly the same address as ours. I sometimes get their mail so I wonder if they get ours. I asked the guys at the post office how to fix this problem and they scratched their heads and said "that would be very hard to fix"

            Glad you got the item

Not good to hear you lost laptop. Makes me scared to order anything expensive. Maybe DHL or the like. Don't know if any better.

Happy I got my item. Thanks.

Take the card and go to Thai Post from where the card is issued.

Have a Thai person read it for you.

Thai Post makes 1 delivery attempt.

Forget trying to call, language is a very big problem.

I went through this. It is waiting for you .

    Bring your passport.

How can you take the card when they don't leave one?

Be careful, don't leave it too long in tracking it down.

I have had similar instances in the past where it shows "Delivery Failed" but no postman turned up or even left a card. In some instances I think that this is a scam and the PO will not leave a card and unless you check online you will not realise it has not been delivered. They then say they have returned it to sender, but in the meantime they keep it!

There are instances though where it has been flagged as a failed delivery and they actually deliver the next day, so just keep on top of it. You never can tell.

I was tracking online. Got message was out for delivery. Then I got another message saying carded. Well I was home and no one came or carded. As mentioned I have collected the item.

After tracking was updated it stated they made 2 attempts at delivery on the same day. That was a load of crap.

As previously stated, the location across from Makro is only temporary. They demolished and have been reconstructing the Main P.O. at its original location for many months now.

Thought that may have been the case.

At least I know where the CM post of is now and where will be.

  13. UPDATE: Parcel located and, after some running around, now in my possession.

Mae Hia was my post office and according to website was open till 4pm Saturday but when I went was closed. I went this morning and showed them tracking on phone app. He did a printout for me and told me some tax was payable and parcel at Chiang Mai post office. He drew a map for me on printout. I went home first and checked on computer and showed post office near CM Railway station. Went there but was just a large construction site. But there was a Mobile Post Office van parked in there. Show him printout and he told me post office on Superhighway opposite Bangkok Hospital.

Went there and went to front building as there were many buildings in the complex. I would suggest construction site previously maybe new CM Post Office being built. Was told to goto green building which I did and presented printout from Mae Hia PO to young man there. He had a look around and came back with a translation on his phone to say parcel not come yet. I was in process of getting tracking app to show him when older guy come out of office and looked at printout. Opened window to adjacent area and said something then indicated for me to go around to that at area. Paid tax, collected parcel and came home.

    Thanks for the help guys.

I'd try AliExpress.com and search melting furnace.  Looks like the total price, including shipping, will be in the $200-300 range, though I'm not sure the models available will be big enough for 3kg of aluminum.

In over 50 transactions on AliExpress- up to $1,000, I haven't been cheated or even disappointed yet.  May happen on the next one, but so far, so good.

Thanks for that. Yep heaps there. Was hoping to find one in Thailand but looks like mostly from China.

Go to your local EMS branch with tracking number. had the same thing happen to me last week ,traveled to a remote location in Bangkok and hours of being shuffled from one office to another at customs until I finally got my package .

As a matter of interest the customs lady try to charge me 50% duty , 2k baht and I refused to accept it and negotiated down to 500 baht..but still left with a head ache

I think I have found where I need to go. Have to wait till Monday.
