Another thread going nowhere (pun intended).

If you're going to spend 4 hours a day in traffic jams, better to be in a Mercedes than a Toyota.
Or take the BTS and already be home shower, eating watching 2 movies in that time
You really have no way of knowing whether the Benz driver did that commute every day. He may have been on his way to or from his gik. Whatever.

Difference in Asia with the face thing is that these people with these overpriced cars, are very often NOT rich. They certainly don't live a rich lifestyle.
They own an expensive car AND THAT'S It! They live in a disgusting accommodation, with roaches and rats running amok, cheap arse flip flops and old clothes. Can't take many trips anywhere (and probably have little interest).
Chinese and Thai-Chinese are big offenders.
Now, there are of course actually rich Thais, but they are FAR fewer in number than most think.
And Westerners don't do the same thing???? Buying houses and cars they cannot afford kicked off the financial crisis in the West......
Not to the see degree with the primary objective to gain face or its equivalent. To enjoy selfishly, but, as said, to lessor degree (at least so much is true in North America). Don't know about Europe as I only lived in UK for a little over a year many years ago.
Right, so in the West it is not "face", it is "keeping up with the Joneses". Knew a guy that owned a Ferrari in Luxembourg. Sa,e difference. Never left the garage as he couldn't afford the insurance...
Then it's an investment.

I would rather be sitting in the comfort of my Benz than sweating my arse off pounding the pavement, even if it saved me a few minutes.
But I wouldn't drive with the top down on a cabriolet in city traffic.

Plausible.
I like the first comment. 'Nuf said.

Thanks guys for all the words and yes I know it's not just Thai women....
Once the divorce is done I am going to celebrate with 10 days in Thailand as a single man once again
Nice work, straight back onto the horse.......... Be careful now
With the emphasis on straight!

Here is what you tell her. SEE YA. I can not believe the number of men who put up with women's nonsense. Why? You afraid to be on your own? You let a woman steal your self respect. Ashamed of the men out there who fall for the whims of any women these days. Women are for inserting your penis into and releasing. Period. They are emotional trainwrecks who want to take everybody down with them. They are dream wreckers as well. Stop being nice to them and relying on then for your entertainment. Develop a hobby. Learn a new skill. Invest in yourself. Stop trying to make them happy. Make gf, wife- vaginamony, child support etc... someone elses problem. Live by this code,AMP. Another Mans Problem. I want to offer help. Don't destroy your lives and self respect over a woman. OP, get some balls and show this girl out today. You sound pauhetic opening a topic like this. TUROK
"Women are for inserting your penis into and releasing. Period." Maybe better to be gay. No period!

Women tend to believe they are right no matter what.
Thais tend to believe they are right no matter what.
Thai woman = well, you do the math.
Double right that man!

Maybe she is always right and you are wrong ..... I think you need a third party to vote on this
Sent from my iPhone using ThaiVisa app
Exactly. If every time there's a disagreement and the GF thinks she's always right, it also means that she thinks he's always wrong. And why would that be? Perhaps the guy is in fact always wrong. Or she doesn't respect his opinion. Or she doesn't trust his judgement. Or she flatout doesn't respect him. Or she thinks he's a total knob. Regardless, I still think he's whipped.
And the reason is simple: he's not Thai.
-
Just tell her to stop lying to herself as she knows well that she is not right when she is not right. So might as well grow up and actually take responsibility.
No disrespect but that's what it is.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
And telling someone like that to change her ideas about herself and what she believes? Really think that's going to achieve anything, especially coming from a non-Thai (or Lao)?

Plenty of dumb assess on both sides of this farce.
And they are always the ones who have to open their mouths and stick a big foot in it!
Were you referring to the Thai populace or certain TV posters?
-
This is big Thai news. Worthy of top story coverage.
But at least it's amusing - to most of us I suspect.

Ketchup on scrambled egg!
Good grief. HP or nothing!

Some day this clown is going to stumble during his retreat after poking the hornets nestm with a long stick. When it happens I cannot think of a single person who would offer aid, much less attempt to help him.
Oh I don't know, there are probably a few who would still piss on him if he was on fire.

Or as a woman once said on a BBC documentary about her "British" accent
Pleeese!! Call it a Cockney accent, but please do not call it a British accent. I speak with a British accent, as does HM Queen Elizabeth,as did Lord Mountbatten... That is a British accent - everything else is a regional English (and often unintelligable) accent
Simon
Don't you mean English accent? I thought Britain included Scotland and Wales.

Hopefully they learn from this. Don't sell your vote for 500 baht and promises.
Hold out for 1000?

Wow, what a story. Slow news day in Pattaya?
Wow, what a post. Nothing better to do in your house?
Did I pull your chain? The quoted article involves a Thai pub with a Thai owner and Thai youths. No foreigner involved, nobody dead or injured, no political component. You obviously have even less to do if you need to speculate about it.
-
This is one of many similar reported incidents to come, followed by pages and pages of TV posters condemning and blaming every colour of protester or authority under the Thai sun. What a waste of words.
-
Sad waste of life. This should not happen in a civilized world.
Civilized world? Oh please. Save your fingers. You forgot RIP and sympathies to his family and loved ones.

Wow, what a story. Slow news day in Pattaya?

[ ... confident that the current political turmoil in Thailand would end soon.]
Why? Because his government has called for it?
What bigots.

[Maybe i am wrong, in shock still, or even bitter over it all but i now look at thai men with distrust and disdain, even thai friends i dont want to know right now ...
Understandable you should think that way right now, but you must have been aware after living in Thailand for a couple of years that these things - and much worse - happen (to others) but if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time and very unlucky, it can (and has) happened to you.
Try and see things in perspective and think about the positive things that have kept you happy in Thailand this long already.

Nothing new about what the OP is describing.
Not only teachers but many Thais have this attitude.
Envy and xenophobia is integrated in their everyday life.
Can't blame them as they never had the opportunity of proper education.
i think i read somewhere around 80% of thais dont even have a passport
and never had one
thailand is their whole world !
You can scoff but just 10 years only about 20% of US citizens had a passport.

But the OP's story is funny! She's a real classic.

I bought electric fan heater, only one i could find. Cost 1200 baht. It says its 1.8 kw and its using about 100 baht in electric in 10 hours.
Sounds about right - they are expensive to use.
This is the safe solution to your temporary problem !
10 baht an hour to stay warm doesn't sound that expensive.
I Dont Understand Why Rich Thais In Bangkok Buy Expensive Cars
