Overstay is one thing, but having a fake passport may be the tip of a big, hairy iceberg.

I hope they checked the guy's freezer.  And, of course, verified his identity and/or sent his fingerprints to the FBI.

Where in the article does it say anything about a passport, if you read correctly the article refers to   CM 108.com, who reported it as being 37, could simply be a typo. Please, do not make up stories, just read and comment on what is published.

the man clearly had issues. mental illness is an illness and should be treated as such.

Mental illness, or not, he made the conscious  decision to put a live round in a gun, then he made the conscious  decision to pull the trigger, to me, that is still stupid, there are, even in thailand, many other avenues available.

If he intended to commit suicide, he would have left ALL rounds chambered. He chose the wrong way to seek attention.

No. That did not answer the question at all regarding scientific evidence that salps and these guys follow each other. There are a lot of jellyfish scientists and they may disagree over such a thing, while all have scientific acumen. Also, Wikipedia is not scientific consensus.

You do realise that a "scientific paper" does NOT  prove the publisher is correct, it only details their research, which in many circumstances has been proven to be WRONG. So if I was you I'don't get over this need for such a paper.

No one said this isn't true. I just asked for clarification and if there are any scientific studies or evidence showing this link or a logical basis for why it would exist. If we are just going on one person's experienced word, no matter if they've worked on one of the groups of animals for a long time, some evidence beyond that would be necessary... especially if this dialogue is going to affect people's livelihoods. That's not being hard to please. A reasonable response would be to provide this.

Perhaps this might help alleviate your concerns. Took less then 5 seconds, on google.

I'm sorry, but is there a scientific paper indicating a connection between salps and these dangerous jellyfish?  If so, this should have been mentioned. If not, this claim probably opens the source to lawsuits, given that these warnings are then based on anecdotal observations of one person and not scientific evidence. It's kinda dangerous to run to the press with such claims if they aren't supported by data from the scientific community.

I'm sorry too, I'm sorry  that you find an 18 year study, by a well respected  Australian marine biologist, so hard to accept, you really are a hard person to please.

My comnent has to do with foreigners ridiculing and being overly critical of Thai politics and officials...not comments in general.

At this time, its not ok for Thais to do it on social media.

    Weve seen evidence of that.

When somebody finally decides its not ok for farangs to do it, they will probably look at sites like this to set an example.

    And then....

If you want to put yourself at risk..fine.

I dont see the point in it.

You wont change anything. You think any Thai is gonna listen to a farang telling him how it is in his own country?

You will and always be..just a stupid farang.

You would put your head on the chopping block for the sake of having to be seen to be right?

    Now thats a strange creature

Ah, so if we don't agree with you, then we are stupid....mmmm, more strange creature thinking, do you think you are right and the rest are wrong. I  always knew there was a higher being. Now be a good kid and, seeing how you can predict the future, give us the winning lottery numbers, for the US, Australia UK, but not thailand, the "prize" just isn't worth it.

Hate to be a spoilsport, but I can see a day coming when these kinds of news threads will all be locked for comment, and it will be a good thing, IMO.

Unless you are a Thai voter, all the speculation will do absolutely nothing.. but strain relations between Thai and farang.

For sure , if it was a more sensitive PM (look at countries nearby) it would probably wind up with tougher visa restrictions.

I seem to remember a visa regulation of many countries..do not get involved in politics?

Its arguable whether commenting is classed as getting involved per se, but if you look at commenting in regards to other laws here, it is an absolute no-no.

In any case, if you are here under many of the existing visa classifications and rules, theres not a frikkin thing you can do about it, so why create unwanted noise?

And why would you find it neseccary to read, then comment, a very strange creature. Why do you think this forum survives?

Makes you wonder how much she would have demanded from a farang tourist or expat????

Does it says she "demanded " anything, all I can read is compensation  was ordered by the court. She did ask for 800,000 baht for her injuries, seems fair to me. You comment is rather crass, and would be a good case for defamation.

Would it be better if they waited until they set off a few bombs?

Where's the EVIDENCE to show they are terrorists, where's the evidence of bombs... geez

They have shown NO proof at all, in fact of 40 previously arrested only 15 remain in detention, or so they say. So, why where 25, if not more, arrested in the first place. You do know what PROOF is, don't you.

I read many times of Thai offenders being granted bail under similar circumstances, maybe a bit of racial prejudice here !

You are right, I remember 2 police, charged with murder, , found guilty, sentenced to death, being released, on bail, never to be seen again. Ah Thailand, you do wish our memories  would fade.

You can't, but does that make it wrong? Why should elected officials have the right to waste taxpayers money on schemes that are obviously not going to work? More to the point, when the scheme turns out to be an abject failure and hugely expensive as predicted, why are those responsible for its inception not accountable if they refuse to act to curb the mounting losses?

Yingluk is not charged or fined with the inception of the rice scam, she is charged with failing to act to control her disastrous policy.

The reason is, if individuals are held accountable,  then you wouldn't  have anyone foolish enough to stand for government... very simple.

I will say, there should be some form of accountability, maybe them, their families etc, being banned from politics.

"The clear difference is the rice-pledging scheme was graft-related."

Known to be a hotbed of corruption from its early inception, the scam went ahead without change. So why should the PM who used it to buy her way to office be forced to pay some of the costs?

BTW I doubt Noppadon Laothong will try the cake-box bribe after his namesake was jailed for it.

I can't think of one country that holds a government to account, except by elections. One would think that cha cha will also be held accountable,  except he has made himself, and his cronies,  "untouchable."

Are you really That sad mate? If TV members opinions make you so irate try thrashing the missus or kick the dog up the arse or go for a walk. Don't need to vent your anger in public my friend ...

I always wanted to be a comedian but everybody just kept laughing at me ..,.,

Wow, you are aggressive. I fail to see any "anger" in my comment, but hey, going by your comments I can see why you would get things wrong.

They have indeed, but can't the next administration void that section of the constitution retrospectively? (I don't know, not a rhetorical question.)

They could, but remember, the military have the numbers, in alny "elected" government, also any government that trys to void the "constitution " will face yet anothEr coup, it is the military that really controls Thailand.
