  1. Hi everyone,

To 'burgerking' and 'suthansman' if you read ever so carefully, i never said i was an experienced rider, just that i had experience on big bikes. The experience i have is that i've owned big bikes in the past, like the one i own now and ride every day in Pattaya, which is a Ducati 1198sp, one of four. So yes, considering that it's probably one of the fastest, scariest big bikes you can get, second to only an 1199R, i think thats just enough experience to be able to handle a slower, 1000cc bike.

Mogandave, as i mentioned above i have a Ducati and its like a dream, and although yes i usually have no trouble gathering up the hotties, its sort of hard with my Duc being a one seater /: laugh.png So it'll be a nice temporary change to take one along haha.

Thanks Aussieroaming, i'll have to check that one out. Regarding your road tour, there's a 'hassle-free' place advertised around Tukcom that hire out Ninja 650's specifically for touring if you're still thinking about going touring.

    Thanks everyone.smile.png

Cheaper to change your seat really however a "big bike" could mean many things eg: Harley, chopper, rice rocket etc. etc. etc.

So what is it you want? Beach road has every kind of big bike to rent.

Also on Theppriset rd half way down on the left there is VP Motorcycle who sells and rents "big bikes".

Not really many "scams" as such but make sure they do a overall checklist for you on the contract. Thats what many have on their rental agreements. It points out scratches and other injuries the bike has and you get a copy of it too. Also helps to take pictures while you are renting it so they Know you are aware.

  2. The only thing that's going to happen in Pattaya is its gonna be F@*king busy with all the tourists and all the Bangkok Thais escaping to their Pattaya property until its all over, and its not going to be over quickly.

Here's to even more mayhem in Pattaya!!

I disagree wit you when you say "The only thing that will happen". I feel that this will be worse then the coup, the Red Protests etc and also belive that alot of essentials that we easily enjoy in local shoping stores, Pharmacies could deminish easily especially if this last for a long time which it very well could and if that happens then no way or replenishing supplies here once they have dried up.

They warn in Bkk to stock up for 2 weeks but they aren't thinking that this could easily erupt into a Civil War (Divided Thailand).

It might not have any effect for a couple of weeks here but after that who knows?

Pattaya being even more busy also means that groceries etc. will be bought up more.

  3. You could always try Boots in central festival or watsons Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Great reply however I know that both those places do not carry what the OP is looking for unfourunetly.

Raro, you could also buy that from the Pharmacies in some of the Hospitals but you know what they might charge you. Banglamung would be the best hospital to try.

  4. What do you think the effect could be here in Pattaya?

I know I have been here awhile and through all the bad riots in Bkk and it had little effect on Pattaya however does your wife/gf know anything more what the Thais are saying?

I mean should I be stoking up on Insulin/Needles etc?

I see the American Embassy is telling people in Bkk to stock up on medicine, food, leave cash close by and fill your vehicles with petrol etc.

In my opinion this could be "the big one" and I'm a little concerned about supplies getting to Pattaya.

I think I will stock up on insulin and needles for sure because the needles I use (Ultra fine 30g BD) are not easy to get outside of major cities on a good day.

    Your thoughts?

  5. Folks, don't get carried away by the government propaganda!

OF COURSE they do paint the protesters in the worst possible colours, of course they tell us all hell will brake loose on Monday and of course they tell us a few bad guys will completely bring OUR (!) lives to a stand still. C'mon on, get real!

Bangkok is a city of approx. 13 million people and exists of more than just Sukhumvit, SIlom and a few more roads. So it only takes a little brains to find ways around the hotspots. Let's not forget how congested Bangkok is on a regular working day. Hey, remember Taksin telling us (back in the last century) that he will get rid of the gridlock within six months? Yeah, sure... and tomorrow everybody will be a millionaire.

Suthep and the demonstrators do not want to hassle YOU, they want to show, that the government is no more in command of what is going on in Thailands' capital. They want to shut down government installations, not us! So for the better of this country, keep cool instead of being taken for a ride by the government's propaganda & spin doctors. We have survived so many coups and other problems here (remember, when the Reds occupied some part of the city?), we will survive this coming days and maybe a few more as well. Get enough cash, get your car/bike filled up and get your mobile filled up as well, if it's a prepaid one.

And look forward to another day in YOUR live.

    Sam

Sorry but I strongly disagree with you.

Find ways around the hotspots?????? You wern't here durring the last Red protests obviously and that wasn't even a "Seize the City" venue.

This could actually turn into "the big one" and could lead to a MUCH greater situation (Civil war) in which we will ALL be affected Thai or Faranag.

  6. If this story is real then I am 99.9% sure that the police will keep it and look no further.

Also if it is true weather or not the police keep it I must say good on the taxi driver. A true believer in Lord Buddha.

I also strongley believe that even if the police did return it to the Russian that he would not give the taxi driver 1 cetang. :(

  7. I must say that most of these big companies that you talk about here that place their workers in accommodations normally do it in large expensive condos such as NorthPoint etc and they pay between 50-85k per month for the wrkers rent. Normally the new workers don't get much of a choice where they want to live.

They do this for security and Insurance reasons the same way they provide them with personal drivers and do not allow them to drive themselves or even own their own bikes or cars here.

  8. if he used a laptop when booking, the url of the webpage might be still in the browser's history. All he has to do is scrolling back in the history list to the day when he booked and re-open the link.

And here's me thinking I already suggested that.

  9. "If I had known I was going to live this long, I'd have treated my body a whole lot better".

Cumulative knocks, injuries and abuse take their toll. A lot of older guys walk around in pretty constant pain and it's tough to be cheery all the time when you're in pain. Not the kind of pain that sends you off for meds, but the kind that just drags you down and saps your energy.

I'm starting to feel it in my later 50's. Some guys feel it in their 40's and others live to a ripe old age and never seem to feel it.

As an example, my brother in his 40's became a real grouch, miserable to be around for a long time. Then he had back surgery to correct some problems and now he's a favorite grandfather in his 50's as cheerful as can be.

I try not to pass any judgment on anybody's demeanor unless I have been in their shoes- which, of course, is impossible.

That is a great point however my health isn't so good these days and I also have real "pain in the neck" yes I still think I act and look happy when I'm out in public. I mean when I'm walking around and pass other expats or foreigners etc I still give the ole "smile and nod" or just say hi. Maybe we Canadians are just to polite? lol.

It just seems to me that so many people walk around with their heads down and wouldn't smile back even after giving a smile.

I don't know, maybe I'm happy to be alive or something but I love being here and when I go out I sure don't act grumpy.

  10. It's just that I have been going out a little more often these days to the city center areas because I have a friend who is new to Thailand and I have noticed so many walking around looking very grumpy.

I agree with yes they should be happy but I have noticed this more these days then a few years back.

And have you looked in the mirror lately sad.png

I don't allow mirrors in my house. I am always happy as most people who know me here will tell you. If I was going to walk around town all frown faced I just would stay home instead to be honest.

Does this post make you contribute snark remarks for some reason? whistling.gif

Anyways this post isn't about retiree bashing. It is just my observation lately and there are 4 legitimate answers to the poll to chose from.

  11. It's just that I have been going out a little more often these days to the city center areas because I have a friend who is new to Thailand and I have noticed so many walking around looking very grumpy.

I agree with yes they should be happy but I have noticed this more these days then a few years back.

  12. I see so many tourists and expats here these days that walk around looking like the don't wanna be here and look very unhappy. The female tourists and expats seem much more happy. Why do you think this is?

  13. 1) He has been here over 1 month now so there goes 9k

    2) Where did he take this Bus # 389 from?

    3) You mean he booked a room ON 2nd floor room # B-14 ?

    4) He MUST have used a credit card (no other way for pre-booking) so tell HIM to do some real research

    5) Sorry but the tourist police cannot read his mind and with that little info........

    6) Did he use a notebook when he was looking for rooms online? If yes does he have it with him? Maybe he can search his history and it might jog his poor memory.

    PS: Your FRIEND? whistling.gif

  14. I don't believe this story. I wonder if a guy got angry for trying to be ripped off.

which is more likely, a tourist pulling a knife at 9 am in shop or a shop keeper trying to rip off a tourist?

I carry a knife, it's my right, but I've never used it for anything other than cutting fruit.

Maybe the guy just bought the knife off the street from a vendor?

who knows? but I don't believe this story.

It is your "RIGHT" to carry a knife here??????? Where did you aquire this "right" from that even Thais have not? Did you forget that you are not in Canada?

In Canada we have the "right" to carry a knife as long as it can be seen in a pouch on our belts and cannot have a blade longer than 4". That is for protection against bears etc. But here you do not have thar right.

    Please elaborate?

  15. They don't pay the police. All beaches in Thailand are owned by the Navy. Even if you own a beach-front bar or resaurant on any beach in Thailand the Navy can just plow it down whenever they want. That is in the contract for any Thai that rents, buys or leases beach-front.

That being said, you can sit anywhere you want and eat/drink anything you want anywhere on any beach. If you flop your arse down beside a beach chair they cannot legally ask you to move but they could cause trouble for you for being a dick. If you sit in someone elses property then yes they can charge you for that.

I never heard of 100 baht for 1 chair before now. Even on Loykrathong we spent 50 baht right at the end of Pattaya Klang.
