Those two main roads in Pattaya are so short that it's hardly possible for a driver' journey to be delayed more than 10 minutes, regardless of the number and antics of the baht buses and coaches.

A delay of 10 min between which 2 points? Heavy traffic means 20 min from Nua to Soi 13. A full-on traffic jam can extend that to 30 min.

Then you usually ride down Beach Rd. while wearing no helmet, right?

What these sanctimonious posters on TVF don't realize is how Thais' eyes "pop out" at the BS they see everyday everywhere here carried out by the locals too. Sure, the tourist is a moron...but then they see some Thai shoot someone for just disrespecting them or talking to their girlfriend too often. Pfft...idiots. Besides duly looking in the mirror, however, and overcrowding prisons, they also notice the BS they see everyday everywhere here carried out by the tourists too. Or are they not allowed to do that by our sanctimonious posters? Nor do they have to correct ALL the BS in their own backyard before they correct some of the tourists' BS in their backard, as the tourist will always engage in whataboutism to escape punishment while ignoring the uncorrected BS in his own country carried out by his own countrymen.

That wasn't the case in the top of peak season this year. In the past the lights were pretty much off most of the time including the peak season but not always. To counteract some of the nonsense, here's pic of the pedestrian light on 2nd Rd working and the traffic stopped for it:

The lights were absolutely off this past high season. I walked past daily and just shook my head..

We'll need to agree to disagree on that point. I stopped for them TOO many times. Forgot how many there are! Next.

To counteract some of the nonsense I notice you say "the pedestrian light on 2nd road" singular because I believe there is only one in the stretch.

You did notice that at least, which was good, and are rightly proud of your grammatical skills. Gold star OK?

Next time I am at Soi 13 and want to go to McDonalds across the road I"ll walk all the way up to the crossing near Central just so you can speed by on your scooter uninterrupted.

    Cool!

If "everyone drives through" but 3 lanes of 4 stop then that's not "everyone." Mostly drivers are stopping for the pedestrian lights on Beach Rd. & 2nd Rd. There are multiple lights. I drive down there regularly. That said, it's kinda lax. If drivers don't see anyone in the crossing (as is the case then the button has been arbitrarily pushed) then they tend to cruise on through, but they do look. With a little experience you learn to make yourself very visible. emoji2.png

They keep turning the lights off in top of peak season to not inconvenience the traffic.. Amazing logic

Are you talking about the one pedestrian crossing on 2nd rd between Royal Cliff and Central Pattaya Rd or the ones that everyone drives through on the beach. I nearly made ot across Beach Rd the other day-the first 3 lanes stopped but the 4th went through at 60 kmh or so.

reply to post 8, the poster was alluding to the *time to get the job done* was referring to the government dept  to sort out work permits, nothing to do with Terminal 21 at all,,. Duh !!

No, my point is that Terminal 21 contractors shouldn't have hired the workers w/o their showing permits; nor should the workers have accepted the job knowing they had no papers (since we're vigorously schoolmarming about "shoulds"). Hence Terminal 21 could have slowed construction progress for lack of those workers--which may have left time for the workers to get the papers IF they'd needed the time. Nor does Cadbury have any idea whether "time" in particular was THE factor and was definitely caused by the government's delay or not in these cases.

Sorry you missed the subtle humor (feigned misunderstanding) used to make those points and therefore the points themselves. I'll try to dumb things down for you next time, duh!!

    Oh, the innocence. :passifier:

Says it all, yes. Says that davethailand, former owner of a notable Walking Street institution, knows a helluva lot more about the matter than you'll ever imagine.

Now that all has been said, are you done?

If I want to cross Beach,2nd road, or Naklua Rd, I wait for a baht bus to stop and while the traffic is held up I cross.

Best: wait and cross with a Thai, unless she's looking at her phone, or a group of Chinese.

If they speed up traffic more people will be hurt just so others can speed through town.

Not clear how many more really. Lot of those pedestrians are careless for one reason or the other. Wish I had a baht for every drunk I've had to dodge. Almost hit an Indian lady who stepped out in front of me; she was looking back at her kids. I drive at safe reasonable speeds.

In Australia they have 40 km speed limits in shopping areas but here they seems to want people to drive faster. It is not as if anyone stops for pedestrian crossings.

If they "want" people to drive faster, then why did they put 40 km signs up? Enforcement is the issue. They might crackdown sometimes per SOP. You may test out whether they'll enforce it on you.

Of course you see some kamikaze speeding in PTY but the volume of traffic is a much larger issue for pedestrians. And yes there's a lot of stopping now at pedestrian crossings that have lights. Most if not all of the lights are working. Pedestrians don't do themselves any favors by pressing the crossing light buttons as they walk by, an act of vandalism. That said, the worst case of a pedestrian light not working is immediately up from the bus terminal on North Pattaya Rd. Poor tourists--it'll be their first brush with death!

All of this was brought on by the fools in the junta who legislated the new laws and imposed totally unreasonable time limits to get the job done.

I didn't know the fools in the junta imposed a time limit to get Terminal 21 built. This news deserves its own headline. 'Course, if an undocumented Cambodian offered to paint your entire house for 1/3 of the price a Thai would ask, you'd refuse, right?

    Oh, you forgot realists.

Oh, but the very few of those we have around here aren't upset that anyone suggested Pattaya might grow into a much larger resort. It's only realistic to expect an ongoing trend towards development to continue.

Just because in reality Pattaya is one of the worst cities in Thailand, and you see it in the news every day. can´t hardly say I am wrong there.

Worst is all a matter of definition. Miami can be one of the best or one of the worst. I would regard Nan one of the worst as it's so boring there. You probably need to read through When boredom starts to rule the day, I Love Pattaya, and Why live in Pattaya? to counteract the brainwashing you're received from reading the news here along with the accompanying hysterical fear-mongering by the trolletariat. If not, eventually the dreaded brain-eating Whither Pattaya and Whither Thailand space monkeys invade and the only cure is to leave Thailand. One of our venerabloe members so plagued moved back to the UK and is so happy there now. Sound good?

And you need to read through the Thai news and find out what's going on in other cities. You don't really know.

Your dream of dream, actually. And people may dream whatever they wish.  So?

It is unique and one of a kind, however. That's one reason I live here.
