Solar panels to charge EV directly?
Crossy replied to Ste78's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
I really hate this kind of advertising as they put the solar industry in a bad light when they come nowhere near the advertised performance. Somewhere in there is the disclaimer, not found it yet. -
Solar panels to charge EV directly?
Crossy replied to Ste78's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
There's no "may" about it!! They also show PWM charge controllers which are hideously inefficient. To be honest, that kit would be nearer to 100W than 1,000W, sorry. -
Solar panels to charge EV directly?
Crossy replied to Ste78's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Do you have an actual link for that? 850mm x 680mm = about 0.5m2 With the absolute maximum insolation from our local star being about 1kW per m2 that panel is 200% efficient!!! Most real panels are about 20% efficient. A 330W panel is about 1m x 2m. Something doesn't add up. -

Where are you getting 1,000W panels for 1,500 Baht?? A 1kW panel would generate about 3-4kWh per day of decent sunshine. It would also be about 3m x 2m and weigh ... Direct EV charging (DC) from solar is an emerging technology = $$$ Easier would be to use a simple grid-tie inverter to supplement your grid energy usage whilst using the "granny charger". -

If your prospective load is over about 10kW (which would max-out a 15/45 supply) then the supply authority will likely want you to go 3-phase. Some locations will do a 30/100 single-phase supply (20kW or so) but it's by no means a given. And, as our OP notes, he has 3-phase machines. Also, having 3-phase gives you some redundancy. It's common to lose 1 phase, with a 3-phase supply you still have two good phases. You can even get automatic selectors that pick the "best" phase for your essential equipment.
-
Just how big are the A/C units you're looking at? The problem with 3-phase equipment is that the loss of one phase will take your kit down. And. By far the most common failure mode of power supply here is the loss of one HV phase (it's always the one our single-phase supply is on)! Cue no A/C despite you having at least some lights and outlets. If you have 3-phase machines, get 3-phase for them, but treat the rest of your home as 3 single-phase installations.

Apparently, reptile eyes are sensitive to blue/green so it might dissuade the beastie, but the call of food may be stronger. Jinjoks will certainly chase the red-dot of a regular pointer in case it's potential food.
-
Easily. As I noted it zaps the beasties on the next-door place 100m or so away ๐

Yup, 3-phase supply is available. Ground is not supplied by the MEA/PEA although the neutral is usually grounded every 3rd pole of so for a TNC-S (MEN) system. It is worth talking to the local PEA office to check what they will actually provide.

Possibly not, our jinjoks will go after the red dot thinking it's edible.

She has her slave then ๐ We feed "ours" in the evening, fresh water and a couple of tablespoons of dry cat food. She also has somewhere sheltered to sleep. Not really a social cat but she does sometimes hang out under my desk crunching up a nice juicy rat ๐

Illegal land occupation
Crossy replied to w94005m's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Adding a different tack, would there be any mileage in leasing/renting the space occupied by the house/village office to the current occupant? -
If you can point the beam at their roost, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. We are owned by a cat but the beasties are well out of her reach, actual rats however are a different kettle of fish ๐

To answer our OP, it doesn't bother me in the slightest, it's hardly delaying me going out into the heat. It also means I can interact, even if briefly, with a pretty lady. There was a similar post a while back questioning the practice. One member noted that the checker had found that the chuckout lady had double scanned an item so he was charged for two and only had one. Error corrected at Customer Service. I must admit that the check seems so cursory that I can't really imagine them finding anything unless you have a TV in there that's not on the receipt (or one on the receipt that isn't in the basket).

Hmmm. I see it still in General and nothing in the moderation log. This topic is closed as a discussion of moderation.

Chonburi zoo applies to trademark pigmy hippo calf โMoo Dengโ
Crossy replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Not heard about the hippo-channel but ... There was certainly one for the baby panda a few years back. The world's most boring TV as it spent 99% of the time asleep, they could have used a still image and nobody would have noticed.
