  1. An illustration from the past: -
  2. I just completed this quiz. My Score 100/100 My Time 77 seconds
  3. Once upon a time, the forum software did allow mods to ban themselves (no names of course), at which point one had to beg other mods to let you back in. That bug has now been fixed although I'm not going to test if it really is sorted
  4. Yeah, we used OC71 transistors, scrape of the paint and it became an OCP71. Opaque goop inside replacing the originally used clear goop put a stop to that for us apprentices. As a related aside, our apprentice training school were given several large sacks of "reject" AC128 PNP germanium transistors which went into many of our projects. Get a handful, find ones that actually had two junctions, stick on the curve tracer to check they had at least some gain. Build your audio amp or whatever.
  5. Yellow wire (panel +ve) is pin-2, this panel has no bypass diode and is in the dark (ok, face down).
  6. Take a trip to Zeer Rangsit. Ground floor towards the back.
  7. Shhhhh. It's tomorrow!!
  8. Once we got sorted we were fine, boat to the main road then bus or army truck to the shopping. The highlights were one morning Madam going down to reception (not flooded) to observe the security guy waving his arms at a crocodile which was enjoying the dry area (sadly, no photos). The other highlight was the capture of a drum which floated past, it was half-full of diesel (sadly, our genset was gasoline). Thais are pretty useless at planning, they are incredibly good at coping!
  9. On occasion I really could have used the sand-filled sock, but we just passed the extension between balconies so she could run a couple of lights and her TV She had an annoying yappy dog (now deceased) and never offered us a brass farthing for generator fuel 😞
  10. Yeah, we got flooded-in to our condo in Bang Kadi (with no power) for several months. Saved by the local bike-taxi guys providing service by boat and Madam acquiring a little genset which lived (totally against the rules) on our condo balcony. The only complaint was from the mad-woman next door, she was silenced by using an extension cord! Unfortunately, we were too far along with our house construction to raise the ground floor level. Worst flooding at the house was in 2022 when we came within an ace of having water in the house. EDIT My thread from 2022 https://aseannow.com/topic/1270695-the-bangkok-river-level-thread-2022-please-post-your-river-level-photos/ the 2024 thread will be "coming soon".
  11. This is true provided that your combiner box includes blocking-diodes (not all do), which will prevent the higher voltage string from feeding back into the lower voltage string (which it really won't like). You still need your string voltages to be at least approximately the same for best performance.
  12. I just completed this quiz. My Score 20/100 My Time 115 seconds
  13. If you want to parallel strings you need to ensure that the Vmp of each string matches pretty closely or the higher-voltage string will be restricted to the voltage from the lower voltage string. We're not combining strings. We have 8 strings of 9-11 panels in series plus a couple of shorter ones (P1 & T2, these have the worst of the shading). Each string goes to a 500V MPPT input on one of our 4 x 2-input inverters. Note that these are all series strings, the interconnects on the drawing are just to show how the panels are grouped.
  14. I value my life! It's not actually a problem coz the house is also in the way early in the day. Those panels only really get going after about 10.30AM.
  15. Our numbers for August. Note that with 23kWP of solar we are way over-panelled for our normal daily usage, so production matches consumption fairly closely. Of course, we have dull days, they always occur when we have family staying and we've actually had to use PEA energy on a couple of occasions to meet their insatiable appetite for A/C. The chicken house / tool shed is now fully loaded with 14 x 340W panels, not ideally located with some shading but they generate useful energy. There really is no more available roof space, well not until I expand the car-port (again) that is
  16. From Ken Bruce: - It’s the saddest of days as my great friend Phil Swern has passed away. Phil was a brilliantly inventive man with a passion for music. He had a vast career as a record and radio producer, deviser of tv formats and as the guiding light and co-creator of Popmaster. He was a one-man fount of all pop knowledge, starting his record collection as a boy and still displaying the same enthusiasm into his seventies. Without him, there would be no Popmaster, on radio or tv. He leaves a giant gap in my life and in the lives of so many.
  17. The eggs are delicious, bright yellow yolks 😛
  18. Weeks? Weeks? When Italy switched it was YEARS! Officially, the highway code in 1912 made it a legal requirement to drive on the right, but cities with tram networks could continue to drive on the left (with appropriate signage on entering). Rome changed in 1925 and Milan in 1926. To answer our OP, yes, I do remember the switch-over although I was only 8. In reality, the only reason I'd even heard of Sweden was the fact that my dad owned a Volvo Amazon
  19. I just completed this quiz. My Score 30/100 My Time 135 seconds
  20. Not really relevant to our OP but Madam mixes our used veggie-oil in with the chicken food. The chooks love it and it apparently improves egg quality.
  21. Well, this is the "Worst Jokes" thread Seriously, if you are getting an error repeatedly, post in the Forum Support section.
