  1. Do you fish in Phuket near the marina/heroin monument? That little pond was so small that I could catch caho from the bottom left area of the lake 60% of the time. The other 40% being sawai or pacu. The thing was they only got to about 15kg at the time. I believe it's now very expensive to fish.

I think you'll have it cracked by now but certainly some places in lakes are hot spots for carp. The method I used with success in many parks was a cage feeder on the bottom (one with a small lead), a very short braid hook length(length equivalent to 3 fingers width) to a size 13 hook. The hook having the little styrofoam balls placed on it so it's popped up. No bait on the hook so it wafts into the carps mouth. I've used both lam and brad on the feeder.

The other method that is particularly good at places like gnao nam is the massage bread on a hook. Again styrofoam placed on the hook. However there the problem was 95% of catches are catfish. Closer in seemed to bring more carp. I personally would fish the bottom for carp but maybe a metre of bottom could also work. Certainly low down in the water column.

I used to fish at Phuket fishing park(Sawai lake) a couple of years ago now it is way to expensive!! I have used ledger, freelined, and cage feeder with bread and Lum all work sometimes, the best method seems to be waggler float on the bottom using bread, I will try that next time I go to Cha Am, have to find out how to do first then try to find the bits, close in is the place but you can get them out in the middle but more luck than skill, just back from Cha Am 9 hour drive it's a treck but worth it. <deleted> tired, yawn!!

How do you manage to tie the hook link of 3 fingers width, seems impossible to me!! I have read it should be approx 5 inches long, anyway I will be trying the float method next time as this seems to be the method that is best.

  2. Are you fishing at Cha Am?

Yes I am here tomorrow and Friday then the 9 hour drive back to Phuket on Sat morning early, no Cahore today just a couple of decent Mekong, 53lb and 40lb, a few Yesops always good catching those, freelined today but no luck, I will be trying the swim outside the restaurant tomorow.

You drove up specifically to catch the Caho? (Cahore is a local Hua Hin farang dialect! LOL) Thats the kind of commitment required to catch them. The fish at Cha Am are funny, they can be off for weeks on end and then all of a sudden one day they feed and take positively....they have been getting caught quite regualrly lately you probably saw Dave W at Cha Am this week he had a large Caho maybe 50kgs. Your hook size is correct, you really need a float though and if you can stomach it sit behind your rod and hit most twitches. Also if your getting mekongs and other stuff, sometimes good to come right in close with the hookbait, this reduces number of pest fish you will catch, but needs to be really quiet for this!

Good day today with many Esop and 1 Cahore of 22 lbs, method was inline coil feeder, short hook link with size 10 hook, I am not a float person so that method is out for me, I will be concentrating on the coil feeder, big ball of Lum with small bread bait, it got many many runs, think I was unlucky today not to get a big one, tomorrow is looking good.

Is Dave the old guy with a Honda CRV? If so myself and a friend were disgusted by the treatment of the big Cahore, they dropped it and threw it back into the lake, We both thought it would be dead in the morning, thankfully it was not!!

  3. Lost some big Cahore today, it's so difficult to hook these fish and keep them hooked, I was free lining using a size 11 hook, changed to a size 13 later in the day, tomorrow I will try using a ledger weight to act as a bolt rig see if that helps, the one I did catch 33 lb was caught free lining using a size 13 hook. Bread and lumb was the bait, has anyone got some usefull tips to improve the chances of hooking and landing these great fish.

  4. I think it is great that there are people who will stand up to bullies and people who feel it is okay to degrade any individual, these Tuk Tuk people are a law unto themselves, wearing certain hats should not result in violence, it's a sad world we live in.

Although Thailand has a police force they are non existent when it comes to upholding the law, therefore we should always be careful of any situations we could find ourselves in, sometimes it is best to ignore and carry on walking!!

  5. Plastic glasses have been used in the UK for many years, I never felt less of a man for using one, Personaly I have never ever felt the need to hurt another human being, some people do not care what damage they cause and to whome, plastic glasses are just one way of preventing serious injury!!

So why havent the plastic cups taken off in Phuket? No incidents of glassings here...its an international embarrassment if your own government insist on treating the citizens the same way as a group of children at a 4 year olds party or a bunch of geriatrics at a nursing home...if your happy with that Kenny then thats up to you. For me I think its insulting, I am responsible and safe enough to drink out of a glass....coming up to 8 years here in Phuket and no accidents inside my house or outside in the bars. As you love all things Thai dont you think its cool that the government dont impose nanny state <deleted> on its people....I dont think Saergent Boonchai would be happy buying his Mia Noi a glass of Moet in a plastic vase

I wouldn't say I am happy with the things governments do, I am responsible enough to be trusted with a glass of any kind, it's always the minority that spoils it for the majority, the UK is a nightmare for as you say nanny state rules etc, that's why I am here, but what can you do? It's great here, no one looking over your shoulder or hiding behind trees trying to catch you speeding etc It doesn't bother me the mom and pop stores still use glass glasses so all good!!

We live in a world where you could be standing minding your own business and get stabbed, or having a quiet drink and get glassed by a drunk who takes a disliking to you, governments rightly or wrongly do what they think is best to protect people, yes most of feel our rights are being taken away again what can you do!!

  6. The UK is full of white trash, yobs are everywhere, when you go out you never feel safe, I never experienced any yob behavior when I spent a month in OZ, I guess yobs are everywhere even in Patong!!

I was in the Aussie bar when a member of the Bra boys came in followed by his followers, never seen anything like it in my life, pot bellied with a huge Bra boys tattoo, strutted about looking tough, his followers all around him, he looked like a yob!! Mentioned it to my Aussie pal and he said "quiet they are very bad"

  7. Seriously! Go NOW and get that jab. My word you can only imagine what nastiness could have been in the water or even on the fish itself.

We feel pain for a reason; as a warning, so obviously something is not right. My guess is that maybe a splinter of the barb has broken off in there but get it seen to....

    .

Just back from the hospital, had X-ray which was clear, had Tetanus jab back in 3 months and 6 months for follow up jabs. Will be very careful with these fish in future, also have anti- biotics.

  8. Did you pay him anything? One situation that could have become very nasty.

Did not. And as an under the radar kinda guy did not file any type of complaint, just jumped in another cab and hit road. I did mention to the ladies in the booth (in Thai) the guy is not polite and a nut.

    Back to my regular driver.

A lucky escape, only ever used a meter taxi once which was 3 yrs ago, a nice guy, obviously not all are nice!!

  9. I looked at dead people and dealt with bad accidents for over 20 yrs, you reflect for a short time before returning to what you do normally in your life, you honestly believe it has put him off riding a bike, rubbish he will reflect forget and continue doing what he does, there are exceptions of course where a person will actually change there life for the better, not in this case as we all will see in his future posts, am I right in saying he will never flame post again?

What were you not a morgue attendant i hope

Ha no a Fire officer for over 21yrs.

  10. Lol I thought you said no more flaming? The I am going to be good lasted for what 5 mins, don't worry if the accident you saw has affected you personally, it will pass and back on the bike in what a couple of days!! I heard so many people say over the years "I am a changed man now". I bet you will be back to your boasting and using previous posts plus being way to personal very quickly, oh you are already, shish some people!!!!

Yea right, do you boast about being a drunk driver to your neighbour? A changed man who now wants to make a difference, start by being a decent chap who never resorts to getting personal, name calling etc etc. I doubt you have or will ever convince anyone of anything, no one takes notice of a confessed drunk driver!!

Countdown to thread being closed. 10 9 8 7 and so on, lol

Your taking notice of me Kenny, ....I actually had a good long talk to my neighbour about it...he was equally horrified. He has a young step nephew (not quite the ready made family) staying with him, and was on the bike also and drove passed the accident.

I convinced him to get a car, I also told the missus about it...she prayed to the god on top of the fridge.... and after I had a good talk to her about it is going to buckle up all the time and stop doing her make up, texting and eating while driving.

Good for you, Why has this particular accident affected you so badly? You honestly believe your gf will stop doing her make-up in the mirror, Stop talking on the phone and eating whilst driving? Again good that someone has actually reflected on what they are doing and make a change for the better.

  11. Getting back to he op no one is interested in discussing the gore seen yesterday, never felt the need to discuss accidents involving he death of others, but it's horses for courses!!

He doesnt want to emphasis the gore. Wake up!

It traumatized him to the point where he is quitting riding bikes entirely and hopefully curbs his drink driving while he is at it.

You stare at a mangled body up close and tell me its not a time to reflect on ones self.

See it from an adult point of view Kenny.

I said see it from an adult point of view but i understand its probably beyond you seeing it took 50 posts to get here.

    Good luck.

Ah cheers mate, a decent chap you are to be sure!!

    So very truesad.png

Yep reflection is something we all have done, I did it many times and still do it many times a day, drunk drivers who kill others reflect on where to get there next shot(excuse the pun, If indeed a certain poster has Been affected to the extent of becoming a decent person then that is good news for the rest of us.
