  1. Near intersections with traffic lights, I tend to do it, as I'm not sure whether the person in front of me is going to stop and turn, or what. There are those other lines that are painted in the road for that purpose, but at times it seems I'm the only one who seems knows that...

Or a favourite thing of people is to stop in the right hand lane at a set or lights looking like they're intending to go straight on, then when the lights change green wack the right indicator on to turn right and block the lane...

Very true! Or if the lead car in the right lane actually does have their indicator on, the next guy doesn't seem to notice and then wants to get over to the left once the light turns green...

Most people deliberately drive up in the right turning lane & then push in so they can gain some precious seconds. Everyone in the correct driving lane have to slow down or stop when the rude drivers push in making the general traffic even slower.

It's all about consideration, Thailand is lacking in that respect!!

  2. Some of us are happy here and don't need to compare it with anything else!! I compare this to the UK that is enough for me!! Yes it is possible there is a better place some where, I am not interested in finding out because I am happy here like many others.

Of course, each to their own, but it's interesting to me how many will research and inspect many properties here before they buy here, if they decide to buy, but not see anywhere else to live in Thailand, or the region, other than Phuket. :) :) :) :)

I would think anyone thinking of buying a property would do a lot of research before committing to a purchase, maybe they have already looked into other countries but only those people can answer that question.

  4. @ petercallen

The weather has been great, so I have been out and about. When it's raining, and I'm stuck inside, I'll be online a fair bit. What's your excuse? :) :)

If people are happy here it does not matter if they have travelled elsewhere!! I have been to other parts of Thailand but still want to be here, I have not been to other Asian countries and don't want to!! I am in and out all day here I can not keep still, other people might not be the same but still be very happy, I have met Peter and he certainly seems happy to me and in what he is doing so all is good!!

  5. This thread is a joke right? You got to be off you're nut to even consider moving to Phuket.

In that case, there are many hundreds if not thousands of expats who live happily full time here in Phuket. Those who don't like it here generally can't adapt to change, and are likely to find the same form of change and hence complain wherever they end up.

Very few resident expats use tuk tuks, girlie bars, jet skis or any other facility commonly used by tourists. Most are only concerned about the availability of certain products, an occasional moan about the increase in traffic, or seeking some other form of information.

Perfect, no; very good, most definitely.

Gererally speaking, I agree with you post, however, I've always wondered how many of those "thousands of expats" have traveled to other parts of Thailand and other similar places to Phuket, in the South East Asia region????

I would not be surprised if many expats have nothing to compare Phuket to, therefore, wouldn't know if the "grass is actually greener for THEM on the other side."

That's me to a tee!! The last part that is!!

  7. I was told by an old girlfriend that they drive in the middle to make room for the bikes on the left and room on the right for other cars to overtake. She also believed it was safer because it avoided head on collisions with cars going in the other direction that are overtaking.

    Makes sense... Sort of.

It sort of does make sense, okay if you are on a quiet road(not good but the Thai's obviously think so, very bad practice on busy roads, guess we just have to accept it and pass as quickly as possible!!

  8. Normal sensible people would stick to the appropriate lane, a lot of the time people hog the fast lane because the road condition is better there(this can be seen on the road up to Bangkok, I can only assume people drive down the center of 2 lanes because they are on the phone, Eating or talking to there friends, concentration or consideration is not a high priority here to a lot of drivers!!

  9. Me neither!!

All he TVP I have seen have been very smart, never seen one that looked scruffy!!

Go to Chalong police station right now then Kenny....no dissapointment there, you will see TVP finest standing out the fron with a durrie, buddha amulets and a 'Harry Callahan' bad ass attitude to boot

I'll take your word for it.

  10. Saw this guy standing in front of at least 6 Thai police, he was practicing saluting, the Thai's kept correcting him, he kept saluting, made my day and I did call him a Pratt, it made him happy but I dread to think what could happen if they gave him a gun!! They are harmless so let them get on with there power trip.

You would make a great volunteer cop Kenny. You've ticked all the right boxes...not much to do, middle aged, living here on the cheap, ready made family, big bike, insecure, great outlook on Thailand etc etc

Lol I have lots to do, middle aged yep right there, live here cheap(what's wrong with that? Ready made family, what's wrong with that? Sorry no big bike, try again!! Insecure mmmm no!! Thailand is great!!

  12. Don't understand what the problem is with the Tourist police, do they bother you, do they affect your everyday lives, no!! If they want to do this job good luck to them!! If you left your home country because you were fed up with a so called nanny state, what's the problem now, I am sure they help many people which makes it worthwhile, I have had no dealings with them so why would I come on these forums and put them down, some people just have to complain!!

ummm Kenny, its called a discussion, judging from the comments above, I must have really wound you up with previous forum posts.

    Lol like a spring ha
